If you look at the scorched earth Moyes has left behind it makes you wonder if he planned to go 18 months ago and deliberately sabotaged with alienation and roadblocks. Lopetegui has got a big job on his hands

"that so many people fell under his spell, while he has never shown himself to be anything other than a narcassist and a bully, has made me more suspicious of people in general. genuinely see very little to like about him or his football. all the best david."

"I remember when he subbed Fornals off, and Pablo look very pissed off - almost in tears. He hardly had a look in after that, certainly not in the league. An honest hard working pro who obviously loved being here and Moyes treats him like shit."

"Can't comment if he is a decent man, but he is a fucking atrocious man manager and team player. Prefers to work with smaller squads and can't be arsed with any outside his regular 14. Constantly plays players out of position and overlooks others who would be better suited. Very thin skinned. Delighted he is going. I can't think of any managers of ours I've detested as much. (anyone could have won that trophy with that squad)."

"Was reading the bbc website report of Chris Sutton on 5Live Reckons the owners have been ""òsucked in' by fans who are ""òentitled' & want ""òfantasy football' FOMB What can you say to that drivel? As mentioned below should fans of Palace or Newcastle have been careful what they wished for?"

"decent man? he created a two tiered dressing room, where if you wasn't part of his favourite clique/group, you were sidelined with no chance of ever getting a game. others could shit the bed every fucking week yet still get picked. good fucking riddance, and I feel sorry for whatever club gets lumbered with him next"

We have had far worse managers and I actually think Moyes is a decent man but he's been left behind tactically and is in the world of the pampered superstar footballer who he doesn't connect with. I wish him well in whatever he does next. We have been his most successful club. He's not left us in the best position. His loyalty to older players and lack of embracing youth means a major rebuild is going to be needed. I hope he gets a decent send off. It was turning toxic and recent results were only adding to that.

"Facebook is cracking me up tonight, so many angry people and nothing to do with us, fuming that a little team should part ways with the great David Moyes, brainwashed by the likes of Sky.. Took a little team with poor players and no money to a European Cup, they will deservedly get relegated now"

"Feel for him? This bloke has the thickest skin out there. After his arrogance and trying to publicly belittle the club and its history, he can fuck off. He should be thankful they've let him see the end of the season."

"Paul Merson is showing what a great expert he is. We should""¶.wait for it""¶.be careful what we wish for. What a cliche and bad aids ridden cսnt. He's comparing us to Charlton Athletic under Curbishley. Charlton Fucking Athletic. I wonder if Aston Villa should have been careful what they wish for. I wonder if Crystal Palace fans are currently thinking they should have been careful what they wish for. Why is this quivering wreck of a man even allowed on TV?"

BBC showing Moyes with a fractionally better win rate than Curbs. If I recall we were baying for his blood at the end.

"What a relief. We've had to put up with so much sterile, turgid football under Moyes and to make matters worse this season we've probably been thrashed more often in one campaign than ever before. But to think we were comfortably 6th at the turn of the year. He deserves to go solely for the dire results of the last four months or so. It's been relegation form and there's no disguising that the longer the season has gone on the more the team has lost form and motivation. In a nutshell Moyes lost the players weeks ago. I don't applaud him for winning that 2-bob cup. I think getting to the semi of the Europa was a bigger achievement. But for the BBC to write that he has been one of our greatest managers is just complete and utter bollocks. I wonder how many Prem clubs will be wanting his services? Fuck all I expect."

"Feel for him a bit the way it's been handled yet again. Would have been better if they had shaken hands agree to move on, ""then"" the club moves for a successor. Can't imagine it's pleasant when successors are mentioned in the media when you are still in the job, but that's Sullivan and football I suppose. Can see the media reactions being very much in support of Moyes as they always have been. Thanks for the memories David, the Cup will always be cherished but as others have said that was probably the perfect time to go for all concerned."

"Don't believe in giving any coach/manager a send off. They get well paid for what they do that is the job. Trouble with Moyes he didn't react when things were going wrong the lack of recruitment the failure to integrate the best youth players into the squad the constant blaming everyone bar himself poor use of subs, calling the fans out,no plan B. The list is numerous if I was Spanish I'd have been waving the white handkerchief months ago."

"As much as I dislike Moyes style of Football and his pig headed arrogance, I am thankful for what he's , in Europe. Yes it was a 3rd tier newly established Trophy against mostly poor opposition but he did manage to win us a Cup which is something Spurs fans can only dream of. I think the Celtic job is screaming out for him that would suit his style of Football a lot better and can mean he can continue to enjoy nights in Europe still should they give Rodgers the boot."
