NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Just checked the stats to make sure it’s spot on:
Rob Saleh is 20-36 as a head coach.
It’s time to move him on. Don’t care when, as this season isn’t looking good, but he can’t be Jets head coach next season.
Some people are just co-ordinators at best. He’s one.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
I’d sack Hackett tonight. He’s a joke. Let him get his own flight home.
And I’d tell Saleh he has to finish the season with a winning record, or he’s gone. No new contract unless he wins: he’s had enough time, this is year 4 for him.
But more than anything, these owners have to go. Although that won’t happen. We make too much money for such a below-par franchise.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
But it’s the same weakness every week, of every season, mate. So I’m afraid it’s no different at all.
The New York Jets do not know how to coach offense, and haven’t done for more than 20 years. Since the takeover by the baby oil magnates, to be honest.
We stayed in that game purely because Aaron Rodgers has been such a superb QB for so long: he’s in decline, but his nous made us competitive.
But we dropped easy passes - again.
The o-line was absolute shit - again.
The running game couldn’t get going - again.
We called the wrong offensive plays repeatedly - again.
Same story every season for more than 20 years.
Fair play to the Vikes - that’s a proper drilled team. Always a good sign when you’re more than the sum of your parts. You can get at them, but they’re strong. Deserved it.

The Vikes nearly caught Spursy at Spurs.
For a team that didn't bring a running game, I thought the Vikings gave the Jets too much respect defensively.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Close game now - purely because of Rodgers’ experience.
Every single completed pass in that scoring drive for the Jets (to make it 17-20) came from Rodgers’ innovation on his check-downs. Not a single pass went to his primary receiver on the play: which says everything about Hackett. That’s all on Rodgers’ calmness under pressure.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Haha! I really wanted Darnold to work out in New York. He has some talent, but we ruined him like we ruin all talented QBs.
The Vikings do look really well-drilled - fair play to them: a good side this year.
I’m not exaggerating, I’d clear out Saleh and Hackett tomorrow. That may seem harsh on Saleh, because he’s a very good defensive mind. Big he just isn’t a head coach and has shown absolutely no ability to understand offense over four seasons. He’s a DC - and an excellent one. He’s the new Rex Ryan:Grade A defense, Grade Z on offense.
Hackett is full-on shite at his job. Beyond awful. Another example of how, from the Jets’ owners down, nobody at the franchise knows how to play modern offense. Genuinely, it has been 20 years since we knew how to play offense - and that was under Herm Edwards (who had a good coaching team and two good QBs).
Twenty years of failure tells you who really is to blame: the franchise owners. They don’t know what excellence looks like, so can’t appoint it.

I questioned recruiting Rodgers, but to not give him a great coordinator and go with that useless cսnt Hackett is amazing

Jefferson is immense, but the rest of the team looks sharp and up for every play. Consequently, they’re more than the sun of their parts. Haven’t seen a Jets team like that (on offense) for decades.
To be fair there’s no real shame in being 10 down to this vikes team. They are the best team in the league so far this year.
But yeah the window with Rodgers is closing and it looks like the gamble won’t have paid off and it’ll be back to the drawing board. That Darnold looks decent and might be free after this season. Worth a look?

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Genuinely think the only way the Jets could be effective on offense is to just allow Rodgers to call plays as he sees it.
Saleh doesn’t have a clue about offense, and Hackett is beyond poor.
Ot’s all putting huge pressure on our defense, which can be very good but is currently desperate to make game-changing plays (because the offense is so poor), so they’re committing too many penalties and gifting points.
It’s not ideal, but let Rodgers call his own plays. At least then you have the best offensive mind you’ve got on the job. Which, at the Jets, is like being the most handsome man in the burns unit.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
This is season-ending shit from the Jets - once again. And a career-ending damp squib for Aaron Rodgers, although little of it is of his making.
Well though the Vikings are playing, the Jets have gifted them 14 points and the game is over at half time.
Ive been patient with Saleh, but he has now proven to be a very poor head coach because he knows absolutely nothing about the offense, or special teams. So, he knows less than 50% of what he needs to be effective in the top job. Saleh is a very good defensive co-ordinator, but he’s one pay grade above his obvious ceiling. He’s not a HC yet at all. Worse, he doesn’t even know what somebody who does know about offense looks like.
So, Hackett the OC, is horrendous - one of the worst I’ve seen in the NFL. He’s ridiculed for his lack of variety and knowledge - and you can see why. He’s also at least one pay grade above his ceiling. Maybe he’d be useful at putting out the cones.
I fear this has all killed the expensive experiment with Rodgers, because the Jets don’t have a single coach at the franchise who knows how to move the chains.
Realistically, I can’t see us getting to the playoffs with this HC and OC - unless Miami and Buffalo remain poor. Rodgers’ contract will be up at the end of the season - and it’ll be time for another rebuild (which, with shit owners, will also go wrong). And so runs the history of the modern Jets …

I saw a Vikings fan on the train yesterday as well.
As the Germans said to me they thought they would make a weekend of it. Can’t argue with that.
Also I think if injuries are kind you have to look at the Vikes as very strong challengers for the NFC this season!

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Quite how the Dolphins went into the season with Tua and the two worst backups I can remember as their only fallback is a total mystery. At least Mike White can sort of play.
Our season is over already.
Still, we did get the magnificently named Storm Duck making a play. Even for the NFL that is a doozie.

Aaron Rodgers seems to get annoyed when asked about Robert Saleh’s comments about dialing back the cadence on offense. “That’s one way to do it. The other way is to hold them accountable.”

The NEW Vikings were almost the OLD Vikings, still they did beat the Pack at Lambeau.
