I recall chatting to him at some athletics meet in Dagenham.
I said I enjoyed the shot put, mainly because nobody else seemed interested in it, but I preferred the discus.
He then spent almost an hour showing me better techniques for discus throwing, even though he had clearly been invited just to award the prizes/medals/cups, which really pissed the organisaters off.
It amazes me know that someone at his level in sport took time to chat with an indecisive kid (me) - would never happen in this day & age.
