Not long home from the game. More positives than negatives for me. We are still a bit vulnerable at the back, Those one-on-ones would have been put away by the likes Haaland or Salah and we would have lost heavily again. Man U are just in very poor form and we got away with them.
But the subs and West Ham's second half performance were very good. The interesting thing for me was the crowd started getting behind the team before they scored. It was the performance (particularly Summerville but also AWB) that got the fans going. Want to see more of that in months ahead. But there are some heavy losses in the pipeline against better teams if he can't sort the defence out.

I called for a penalty in the ground (I was admittedly the only one in our area. I’ve just watched the highlights, I still think it’s a penalty. Not sure what I’m missing, or why West Ham fans are falling over themselves to say it’s not and we got lucky. Looks a clear foul to me.
Re: WHUFC vs Man. Utd. (Home) | 27.10.24 | Official Match Thread
the subs and likely the HT team talk were on point today, for that Lop redeemed himself. That defence looks iffy though, and to be fair the subs could have been a moot point had ManU put their shooting boots on first half.
3 points is 3 points and all the sweeter in the way it came against that mob. If we approach the Forest game from the off with the same intensity we did the second half today and if we can get that defence to settle down we are well in with a shout of getting something there.

Avram Grant? Hahahaha - top trolling there.
Where’s the evidence that the players don’t like Lop. he changed it today and we looked much better for it.
I don’t get why people, so early in his tenure, almost immediately go to “he’s fucking shit, careful what you wish for”.

The first half was terrible and I’d much rather he got it right from minute 1.
however, Lopetegui changed the game with the subs. Fair play for being brave and having the acumen to fix his mistakes.

Was never a pen, and lopetegui’s tactics are beyond comprehension. At the moment I’d say Avram Grant was a better manager than he is, but Lopetegui has managed Porto, Seville, Madrid & Spain so maybe I’m missing something. But to me he seems stubborn, tactically inept and generally disliked by most of the players and fans. Hes a disaster.
Great win though, even if we should have been walloped out of sight before half time.

I'd say the same Gank. I was surprised VAR said it was a clear and obvious error. Once the refs descision was questioned you kind of fancied it going for us. Very funny it went against ManU.
Re: WHUFC vs Man. Utd. (Home) | 27.10.24 | Official Match Thread
If that decision had gone against us instead of for us, there is absolutely no way anyone on here would understand why it was given. It was never a penalty, stop trying to justify it and just enjoy that it happened against Manchester United for once.

Not really true. There would have to be a couple of decisions a game at least twice a year over the next few decades for that to be demolished.Comma wrote So in one fell swoop today’s officials demolish the argument about big clubs getting benefit of the doubt on big decisions.
Re: WHUFC vs Man. Utd. (Home) | 27.10.24 | Official Match Thread
De Ligt could have been given a few yellows for his reaction to VAR (marching to the touchline the monitor is on with his arms stretched out and wagging his finger), and then continuing to moan after the penalty had been given.
Not one of their players got booked for moaning and delaying AFTER the penalty had been awarded. Onana had walked up to the halfway line waving his hands - none of his team were anywhere near him.
‘Big’ teams still get a huge amount of leeway with stuff like that.

I thought it was a reckless challenge to make like that inside your own Penalty Box with a few minutes remaining. De Ligt should look closer to home for giving the Officials something to think about.

Sadly it's not possible for us to get 5 points from that one.

He got away with his initial team selection entirely due to bad finishing on the part of the opposition. He picked the hapless Paqueta and the woeful Soler (who, let's not forget, he was desperate to have at the club) and was rescued by Summerville
And can all those who have been asking to see more of Soler please stand down? I'd rather see Earthy
You can still credit him for accepting his mistake a changing it. Not a fucking chance Moyes would have done that. Three subs in the 92nd minute for him instead.
I think a bit harsh on Soler. The old Fornals treatment innit. Bloke isn’t a left winger while he’s got a hole in his arse. He also doesn’t claim to be. I’d like to see him centrally and Paqueta given some much needed bench time. Think he links play quite well to be honest.

Maybe I saw it differently but at least in the second half with Soucek playing CM and sometime slotting in as a CB, and Emerson as left wing, I was pretty relaxed really. It was a weird feeling. I wouldn't have been surprised if they scored but I didn't think they would win as we actually had control of that midfield.
I dont think I've seen that for like 4yrs!
They were looking for long balls over us mostly, which no one ever needs to do as you can normally run a train through us in the middle. You could say Man U were knackered etc.. maybe, but I dunno, something different about us in that 2nd half. Just more assured.
Still keep saying Wan Bassika is the best player we have on the ball and could play anywhere on the pitch. Him and Bowen are really linking up well and I think he made the difference for the whole team.
Also, we had like 45% possession which I haven't seen against a top 10 side with us.
My big critisiscm is that the 2nd half side looked so much better that you have to wonder why you dont start with it like that? And for all Antonio's running about, Ings is always where a striker should be. Thats the point of playing that position. I still dont see how we will prepare for Fullkurg being back if we dont start Ings. It makes no sense.
I'm not sure but I heard Todibo wasnt quite fit? Also, it feels like he made the subs because they were on yellows rather than tactical... maybe?? So the jury;s out a bit. Does Lopetgui learn from his mistakes? I hope so.
I'm fairness, man u is not a top ten side.
Re: WHUFC vs Man. Utd. (Home) | 27.10.24 | Official Match Thread
Excellent second half today - thought we looked more of a team without Pacqueta. Credit to Lop - he made the changes and they paid off, how many games have we sat and watched with no subs being made until it’s too late. Well pleased with it and makes the journey home much nicer.
Manchester United still get loads of favourable things going for them though. Quick raising of the flag for offside for us a few times, and the slow flag for them. Delaying the game (Onana chucking the ball on the roof of the net one example today) and not getting bookings. They also had added added time - just feels like they get that more than other teams.

Im not sure if De Ligt gets a touch on the ball.
For argument’s sake let’s say he does - it doesn’t matter. He’s out of control and follows through into Ings.
In this day and age, you can’t do that.
If people don’t like the rule, then go back to the old rule, whereby, if the defender gets a touch on the ball, it’s a fair tackle.
And even if it wasn’t a penalty ( it was ) it’s about fucking time we’ve had a dodgy decision go for us against them cunts.
All that’s left for me to say on the matter, is…fuck Man United, fuck their glory hunting shit cսnt fans, and fuck all their sycophantic, cock sucking, shitcunt ‘friends’ in the media.
