SB, listened to Terry Mclaurin yesterday who was with him at Ohio State when they won the college championship. He said he may come across as quiet and a bit of a loner, but it's because he's such a hard worker. A New Orleans journalist said the exact same thing a couple of days ago when asked about his character. He's got the perfect coaches now if that's the case

I get what Irons of Canada is saying. But most CB1s have up and down days. Because they're generally matched-up against the opponent's best receiver. I remember Deion saying that he was never "just" playing his receiver - he was playing the QB and receiver in combination, because as the leading CB you have to learn how to shut down both so that the QB doesn't want to throw towards you any more.

Speaking of Revis, there's been a lot of talk about him on the Jets boards again - due to the discussion about what Rex Ryan (angling for a comeback) achieved with such a shite franchise.

Take another look at his 2009 season. Now THAT is a cornerback. That season will rarely, if ever, be repeated. The guy shut down 11 pro-bowl receivers in 19 games that season. The other 8 weren't even competition.

And he didn't just shut down great receivers, he absolutely dominated them physically and mentally. It's still the highest- graded season ever by a cornerback - and they adjusted the gradings to give modern CBs a chance. He stopped the following receivers from getting more than 35 yards: Andre Johnson, Randy Moss (twice), Marques Colston, Terrell Owens (twice), Torry Holt, Steve Smith, Reggie Wayne. He stopped all-pro Chad Johnson (Ochocinco) making a single catch: zero yards. Dominated them all.

In two games, Randy Moss caught just nine receptions for 58 yards. And he had Tom Brady throwing him the ball.

Chad Johnson: "That 2009 f**king season will never ever, ever be replicated. That's impossible."

I know others will reach for Deion and Green - both amazing CBs, no question. But there will never be another pre-knee injury Revis. If you're picking the greatest NFL defense of all time, it's just a case of which CB plays on the other side from Revis Island.

If he stays fit, Lattimore is a steal for the Commanders, TM. Especially for those trade picks.

A really solid and consistent cornerback.

He not really that consistent to be honest.

He can be amazing or can be pretty off.  



I like the Commanders, good luck to him and them.


Looking forward to a real new start next year with the Saints, I guess.  You saw that Carr and especially Kamara are more than servicable with a healthy decent OL.  But you need healthy receivers.  We will see.

My fantasy stuff is in the toilet as well.

Need West Ham (or Canada - though very limit opportunities) to pick up the slack and bring me some winter cheer. 

Four pro bowls in five years seems pretty consistent to me. Especially when you look at the yardage he (generally doesn't) give up even in the seasons since that run. He's a steal for those picks - providing he doesn't see the Commanders as the start of him easing down. I get that most CBs have bad days. Those that don't - like Revis - are few and far between.

SB, yes it's a great value trade for us. The Saints have such a deficit on their cap, they have to make moves and we were short a CB1. Also helps he played with Mclaurin at Ohio State. We also enquired after your player DJ Reed but no joy there

Zeb, that turf issue is no doubt an even a bigger contributor to bad injuries. Darryl Green who recently had his number retired with us said he wouldn't go to a team that used an artificial turf for that reason, he played 20+ seasons

There was some talk about the same thing for rugby due to knee injuries but it has faded out of the game.
I was drilled how to do that when I was young (open side flanker) and it very satifying whrn it comes off.

those type of tackles, for me, should be outlawed. I've seen far too many (especially Redskin) players get bad knee injuries off the back of them and never be the same again

Saw something intersting in the Ravens Broncos game.
One of the Bronco's safeties (22) has brought Derek Henry down twice with a proper rugby chop tackle. Henry went down life a felled tree both times.
Not that it matters as Henry is trampling over the rest of the Broncos D.

SB, the blocking (again) comes down to the lack of coaching talent on that side of the ball. the O-line coach needs to be on the same page as the OC, it's clearly the tail wagging the dog at your place. we took on a bloke with a scratchy recent history (Bobby Johnson) but he clicked immediately with Kliff Kingsbury, and we've built this high scoring offense with a rookie off running the ball. that clown GM of yours needs to let whoever the next HC is, bring in his own people, instead of trying to please one player

It's 100% epitome of the Woody Johnson era. Lots of noise, lots of razzmataz and lots of whooping. All skill sets and promises of great receivers and, now, a (formerly) great QB. But if you can't do the basics right, then you won't be a good side. The Jets need to throw out everything at the end of the season and get back to learning the basics. There's real talent on that roster. But none of them do the hard, unglamorous yakka.

The problem is that, as Rex Ryan said last week, we can't block for toffee. On offense (run or passing) or on defense. That set of backs should be pounding out 150 yards per game. Old skool Jets football. But they can't because their line can't block and open up the gaps - and everybody knows it.

These are the core fundamentals of American football that, Ryan aside, the Jets have not got right since before the Johnsons took over the franchise.

Amazing one-handed catch by Wilson finally gets the Jets a win.

But, my god, it was painful to watch at times. You should see Malachai Corley’s error: he’s strolling into the end zone for a TD on a fake pass, with nobody around him, and literally dropped the ball. TD got overturned to a fumble and touchback.

Good to get a win after five defeats. But the Jets always make it difficult.

From 2.08 onwards: Rex's rant.

I know he's not everybody's cup of tea, but the guy knows defense and the guy knew how to coach the trenches. Watch his face when he talks about their blocking fundamentals - he's going to give himself a heart attack!

He would get them back on a sure FOOTING.

Rex would certainly sort out some of the fundamentals that the Jets have never got right since he left - such as blocking. The o-line and d-lines would both improve and we’d be able to run the ball because the line would create the space.

But his offense was poor at using and developing QBs, WRs and TEs. He’s almost the opposite of the current lot: great on the trenches and poor on the skills positions. That’s why he went 4-12 in his final season.

Plus he hasn’t coached anywhere for 8 years.

I’d have him as a DC. He’s a brilliant defensive mind. Nobody wanted to face his defenses. Although he was massively boosted by the outstanding Revis.
