WHO vs. KUMB

Post Come On You Irons »

I had a look on KUMB yesterday and was struck by how much more active it is in on there. Multiple West Ham related threads, decent debate and much more activity.

This site remains moribund despite the good work setting up the new site. Seems the owners held out too long before sorting the server issue and the site has suffered as only a handful of active posters remain, many of whom are abusive keyboard warriors who offer nothing but hatred and pettiness.

I'm seriously tempted to bin off this site and switch to KUMB, and I can't be the first. Something needs to be done.

If we want better quality of debate, we need people to start those debates...any volunteers to write regularly anyone? We can easily setup some kind of column

Anyone want to do a regular match report/player ratings thread? I had a go at one, but don't see all the games as kids get in the way.

One of the challenges is not so much KUMB frankly, but competing with Reddit and Facebook groups, where there are huge numbers starting threads and discussing the club.  Tapping into those forums is really the place to go to boost numbers...although it can be pretty unwelcoming here for newbies...and as above, to get people to come on board and stay we could really do with some higher quality discussion pieces, maybe a return of one or two posters handling the 'View from the Oppo', etc.

Surely we've got enough narcissists and attention seekers there must be some posters that want to start a regular thread/opinion piece about the club, or even some kind of video-blog offering.

With the platform there is a lot we can do...but ultimately it needs content creators to drive the offering to make it saleable to new blood.

Anyone that wants to get involved in any of the above please let myself, Wils, or North Bank know (and of course thanks to those who do offer up regular content threads, like Alan, Coffee, Zico etc).
I don't really watch much social media stuff, so this wouldn't interest me too much, but would it be worth seeing if one of the youtube channels want to link up with this site?

Geo is Aberdeen Iron's kid, so there is a link to the old site with him.

I gave him the answer he wanted, don't fall for the usual 'abusers' victim bollocks. If he doesn't like it, fuck off. You may lose multiple usernames if he does go, but good

I'd give KUMB a go but don't own any cardigans with leather elbow patches or have ANY interest in train spotting

Ah, the tried and tested attack the poster, rather than address the issue raised,  tactic is being played out on here.

I cannot comment about KUMB or any other West Ham related fan site for that matter because over the piece WHO has been my only port of call. And despite the long overdue upgrading, plus the ability to suppress tiresome posters, I think that this site is slowly but surely petering out.

It is an immutable fact of life that things arrive, have their time and disappear, not abruptly but over a period of time.

I’d say there was golden age of this kind of social media platform associated with the internet being an exciting novelty. Those days are now over and sites like this have to re-imagine themselves. I certainly really appreciate the new, content-writer friendly format. The edit features and other writing-related options are definitely a step n the right direction.

It would help if you - not just other posters - brought interesting new subjects to the debate.

The closest thing to "new" that you have actually introduced is a couple of pet nick-names for a couple of the clubs managerial staff, which you then repeat ad nauseam at every opportunity, I assume in some sort of attempt to hopefully  drive them mainstream.

Add less than 10 usernames to your 'foes' list and most of the juvenile trolling, far right obsessions and downright boring posts disappear.  Makes the site a lot more enjoyable to browse.

I’ve never been tempted to go on KUMB.

As for this site, it still has its moments. It’s suffered from a lot of good posters either leaving or dying on us. I mostly ignore any political threads. If I want intelligent political debate, a fans site for middle aged and elderly West Ham fans wouldn’t be my first choice. The football debate can be alright, but there are too many posters eager to be first or loudest with an opinion so that they can be proved right. Then they spend every moment repeating themselves, flaccid dick in hand.

Getting shot and banning all political threads will help. KUMB will always be the pipe n slippers alternative if you're not liking the lively debate on WHO, but crack on with the WHOICIDE.

Good question

I’m not really interested in playing the insult game on a political thread, I suppose.

I applied for a username on KUMB back when WHO was a dot-com site.

Still waiting on a reply from them (of any sort).

How about a strict no personal-insult standard? I’m happy to observe it if the mods are ready to enforce it.
