Woke watch
"There is a very good section on GB news where the ludicrous idiocies of Wokeness are looked at I thought we would should have one for WHO. I'll start with Baptiste on BBC: In Hungary,an ambassador's family are kidnapped by Islamic terrorists and carry out atrocities. At the end of the last episode Baptiste finds out that it is a false flag operation and conveniently, the real culprits are white supremacists who want to stop all immigration. Coronation Street ITV a gay black footballer is stopped by the police, because he is driving an expensive car. He is pushed to the ground during an altercation, and damages his leg threatening his career. Could have been written by Dawn Butler or a BLM activist."

That was an interesting read up until the inevitable happened.
Guess if someone is born a pig, they'll die a pig, displaying non stop porcine behaviour.

Re: Woke watch
H&P re your kids learning stuff you might disagree with as a parent...
... yes I do. But everything they learn in school should be based on:
a) a clear evidence base
b) where a fact/issue is disputed there should be both sides given adequate explanation
To go back to Nurse's example, Mary Seacole was a real person who achieved certain things. She was included in my kids' syllabus and there didn't appear to be any attempt to "one up" her on Nightingale. I have no problem with her in the syllabus and it is true that historically black and Asian people who had achieved things weren't represented in our syllabus so it's reasonable to include them now even if they are marginally less relevant in terms of the volume of achievements that person X may have achieved in relation to person Y.
On the 500 genders stuff, the whole concept has basically no scientific foundation and is inherently contradictory. In my kids' school it was taught as fact and there was fundraising for charities that promoted medicalisation and sterilisation of children through puberty blockers and other medical interventions. I don't want that taught in schools, not because it is something I disagree with but because it lacks any evidence base and worse doesn't even have the alternative view explained.

Re: Woke watch
What if they have a blue rinse and believe anyone with a humanities degree has an agenda to turn your boys into girls and your girls into boys if that’s the latest bullshit in the twattosphere?
And what is all your nearest family has a massive inferiority complex when it comes to education and civil society in general?
See, there is a reason I was alarmed when you said you were thinking about offering to educate your grandchildren. Misinterpretation and misrepresentation are reactive traits we need to educate people like you out of.

If it's a choice, I'd rather instill them with my values than those of a purple-haired nitwit who wants them to think Mary Seacole is as important a figure as Florence Nightingale and that there are 500 genders.

Re: Woke watch
I’ll put it another way.
Do you want your children to learn something even if you don’t agree with it?
Or do you want your children to become just another version of you?

I was told by another poster on here not to argue with you as you are a cսnt. I think your post proves that he was right. Could waste my time pulling it apart but you would be prevented by your bigotry from learning anything from any criticism.

However, I do not expect to teach them maths so I respect their maths teacher’s opinions on maths. As for religious education, I expect them to use their time properly far away from the priest who will tell them God’s law is real while the government’s is just one man’s word against another.
Is that too much waffle for you?
Hmm. Sidestepped my point a bit, but OK. You have been more bonkers on this subject in the past, so if you genuinely believe what you wrote there, then this is progress.
I remember some time ago I mentioned on here that my son and I have decided, depending on the timing of my work/retirement/financial status, that I will homeschool his children when he has them. You jumped on my comment as though you'd been stung and became quite aerated on the subject. You continued to take the odd potshot at me about it off-topic on other threads for several weeks afterwards. I clearly hit a nerve. It seemed to me that you are heavily invested in the idea of the state programming the minds of the young. That parents cannot be trusted and teachers and lecturers always know best and have the 'correct' views.

Well, it really kind of depends on which views and values, doesn’t it. If the teachers are to integrate a diverse class and make sure they are effective as teachers of groups, then the adult parent thing to do is either demonstrate they are better at integrating diverse classes and being effective teachers of groups or being open to revising their own values as parents. Also, intelligent children will learn things at school that challenge their parents’ world views. This is a good thing in many ways especially as it tests whether parents are really adults or not.

Yeah, that’s right Milly; as soon as you believe it together, it becomes so much easier to treat the useless bullshit like it’s actual information. And you don’t feel so lonely and useless any more.

Hmm. I think this is one of the fundamental differences between us, Pickle. I believe this stuff should be the responsibility of parents to teach their children, not schools or universities. It's the parents' job to instill values. When parents don't do their job, all sorts of weirdos are happy to step in and fill the gaps with nonsense such as racist Welsh dogs and gender waffle.
But I do agree it is above all the parents’ job to teach their children. Then, when they support their children’s education, everyone is more likely to be capable of cooperating with each other. Also, if the parents don’t treat populist fake news as a rallying cry, their children are less likely to accept that hurricane aid is being diverted away from American families to support illegal migrants, or Haitians are eating their pets in Springfield. They may also expect to learn something useful at school as well - you never know.
Populist fake news? Like what?

Re: Woke watch
I do run a business and I’d employ anyone who can do the required job, even if they happen to be a cultural Marxist. But I definitely wouldn’t employ you largely because you’re clearly a miserable twit burdened with a whole load of half-arsed opinions that are of no use to you or anyone whatsoever - like the 97% of the population bullshit. You couldn’t even say what woke beliefs you’re blithering on about.
Certainly, the vast majority will agree discrimination on grounds of class, race, colour, sexual orientation and other ascribed characteristic creates toxic, divisive relations that prevent us from working together and running our companies and institutions properly. That’s because it’s the basic stuff you tend to learn at school if you stay on in education longer than you immediately have to. Thankfully, many also go into higher education and understand what people doing social science degrees really have to say; at least they don’t just passively hoover up the crap the populist media have to say about anyone with an understanding of how society works.
