I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season

Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit

We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge

But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

Lopetegui's got the mien of someone who's stumbled into work after a night on the plonk to cope with having just been taken to the cleaners in a messy divorce. He looks/sounds cooked and I doubt he's got the personality to challenge that (who would at his age, apart from Mourinho?)

His father is apparently very ill so I wonder if the weight of personal stresses combining with the professional are too much to bear? Could be why he's seemed so distracted and perplexed for his time here. We might be doing him a kindness letting him go, possibly even offering a face-saving mutual agreement that he steps down to spend more time with sick relatives?

FWIW, I thought Moyes' time had come and we were right to move on. Lopetegui wasn't my first choice though I had reserved optimism he might gradually improve on areas most of us had identified we were struggling in. I was prepared to be underwhelmed but even I'm surprised at how pear-shaped it's going.

Goose that is how I see it going too. I am an eternal pessimist but nonetheless that is how it will go.  What it really means is that the board can decide to replace the head coach ( because its obvious things aint getting better and will not improve after 5 months) but their vote can be vetoed by Sullivan. Then they will put out the statement as you say.

Depressing in the extreme but our torture is going to last at least another month imo.

I mean the performance, as someone who was looking for a coherent team performance with signs that the change in approach was starting to get, was frustrating. Was I pleased with the result? Yes. Did I get frustrated watching the match itself? Yes. By your logic every time Moyes won it would be considered entertaining...it wasn't. I mean I enjoyed beating Man Utd, but the performance should have had us 6 nil down by half time.
