Is Dewsbury-Hall a 'next level' player though? Yes he's OK but think we should be looking for better. An unimaginative signing too.

Big not to Chilwell, always injured and would push Scarles down the pecking order. As for Tierney, I'm fitter than he is, and I get stiff legs walking up the stairs.

West Ham make contact over signing attacker – ‘Positive response’ for Hammers on the cards

By Naveen Ullal

On Friday, we covered claims from France which stated West Ham United are in talks for Marseille’s Elye Wahi.

Image

Wahi isn’t the only one on West Ham’s agenda as they have their eyes set on OGC Nice’s Gaëtan Laborde.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who state the Hammers are considering signing the 30-year-old to improve their attack in the winter market.

That’s because of Michail Antonio’s long-term absence and the Premier League side have a few names, including Laborde, on their list.

The London club tried to sign the Frenchman in the winter 2021 market, when he was at Montpellier, and offered €12m plus €3m in bonuses. This time, they have made contact to obtain information about signing the forward, who can play across the front line.

Foot Mercato state Laborde’s versatility and qualities make him a ‘sure value in Ligue 1’ and this would have also pleased West Ham.

Laborde currently earns over €300,000 per month and isn’t in favour of leaving his club in January.

On the other hand, Nice could provide a ‘positive response’ as his exit will help them save on his salary. They are ‘inclined’ to lower their wage bill and could sanction a move for Laborde, if West Ham were to make a concrete approach.
Is this a report from 2021? Sure it was about then Laborde and Wahi were on our list. Smacks of Sullivan agents getting involved.

Exclusive: Graham Potter 'Offered' £25m Striker as First West Ham Signing

Image

West Ham United have been handed the opportunity to sign Lille star Jonathan David after the London Stadium recruitment chiefs have gone in search of adding further firepower ahead of the winter transfer window slamming shut on February 3, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

The Hammers have entered a new era as Graham Potter was appointed as Julen Lopetegui's successor on a two-and-a-half year contract on Thursday, and plans are being put in place alongside technical director Tim Steidten and chairman David Sullivan to make adjustments to the squad he has inherited.

David, who has been described as 'one of the best strikers in the world' by journalist Tony Marinaro, is a potential acquisition after West Ham have shown determination to be active in the transfer market due to finding themselves just seven points clear of the Premier League's relegation zone.

Hammers Given Opportunity to Recruit David

Canada international pushed in east Londoners' direction

Potter has been given the chance to make David his first signing in the West Ham hot-seat, according to GMS sources, as the Canada international has been offered to the east Londoners even though they turned down the opportunity to pounce when he was pushed in their direction in the summer.

The striker has entered the final six months of his Lille deal, which allows him to pocket in the region of £31,000-per-week at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, meaning the Hammers can tie him down to a pre-contract agreement ahead of him joining as a free agent at the end of the campaign.

GMS sources have been informed that there has been early contact with West Ham to discover whether their feelings over David have changed since the opening days of Lopetegui's tenure and, in a significant twist, if a move to the London Stadium would be a possibility under Potter's tutelage.

Image

Although Lille have slashed their demands for the 24-year-old to £25million due to an awareness that the winter transfer window is their last chance to cash in unless they can tempt him into making a U-turn and penning a new contract, the Hammers could face competition from Premier League rivals if they decide to up the ante.

That is because Manchester United are also expected to be offered David as they contemplate bringing in a new first-choice marksman, GMS sources have learned, but Potter will have a big say on West Ham signings and has already made it clear that he is eager to recruit fresh competition at centre forward ahead of the deadline.
Would rather Larry David.

West Ham enquire about Nice’s Gaëtan Laborde

Image
It seems as though West Ham United want to take a second look at Gaëtan Laborde (30) and have made inquiries about his services once again, according to a report from Foot Mercato.

The Hammers have desperately needed a striker since losing Michail Antonio (34) to a serious injury in December. Last month, the Jamaican international was in a car accident. Laborde was previously on the radar of the East London club during the winter of 2021.

In his third season with OGC Nice, Laborde has four goals in 10 Ligue 1 fixtures to this stage of the campaign. He’s earning over €300k per month for Franck Haise’s side, and Le Gym may be receptive to making a deal happen.

West Ham recently appointed Graham Potter as their new manager. The Hammers, who won the 2022-23 UEFA Europa Conference League, have 24 goals in 20 domestic encounters this season with captain Jarrod Bowen (28) leading the way with five.

Laborde has scored 81 goals in Ligue 1 while netting in the double-digits four times in the competition. Nice are currently sixth in the table, two points below fourth-placed Lille OSC.

LJC wrote: 10 Jan 2025, 10:02 Agree with that Stubbo and I wouldn’t be too sad to see Fullkrug go if we can get David and another on loan. If we can pull in the two CM from Chelsea on loan with options then we are set.

If I have the loan system right we can have two more from the prem so that’s the two Chelsea boys and so the striker loan would have to be foreign? Probably got that all wrong!!

I wouldn’t mind seeing Soler go but would somehow have to be replaced due to shortage of players!
Must admit I want Fullkrug to stay. Is a long time since we had a striker with presence in the box who knew where the back of the net is, and he seems one of the few players in the squad with some kind of leadership potential.

I'm keen to see what he can do...he's scored two in very little game time so far in a dysfunctional side. Reckon if you ignore his price tag, he could work out a decent signing still.

Alvarez has been bad for us this season...but was another who had fallen out with Lopetegui, and was injured for most of the preseason too.

Having said that he was considered a shining light in the squad coming into the season...maybe there's a few players who need an arm around them and a team setup that compliments what they're good at....and given his age, I'd be keen to see if Alvarez improves under Potter.

At this point the only players I'd be really keen to shift are Guido Rodriguez (who's just too slow, although is fairly press-resistant), Areola (just because he's simply not good with the ball at his feet, or on crosses), and Danny Ings (to free up his gargantuan wage). Plus if we could find a buyer for Ward Prowse or Aguerd to get some funds in.

On the Aguerd front, if there was a way to do it I'd happily have him come back too. The guy is in good form, we're likely to move to a three at the back system, we lack recovery pace, and we only have three senior centre backs with one injured.   He'd be a very natural solution to a problem.

Also we're short on a left sided proper wing back...maybe getting Cornet back given we have no money to spend really, would be worth a look.

Trouble with Potter coming in so late in the day instead of December is he's had no time to actually assess the players up close going into January.

With Bowen and Antonio out a bid for Rashford isn't that fanciful, doubt it will happen though. Manu are tough to deal with, then there's the wages, and you have to always be careful with a player who might think he's doing you a favour.

Talksport

West Ham emerge as shock contenders to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United

    Alex Crook & Robert Calcutt

West Ham have asked to be kept informed on Marcus Rashford's situation, talkSPORT understands.

Rashford faces an uncertain future at Manchester United having recently been dropped by head coach Ruben Amorim.

The 27-year-old has admitted he is 'ready for a new challenge' away from Old Trafford, with United open to offers.

West Ham would consider a loan move for Rashford but know he is more likely to join a top European side.

Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund have all been credited with an interest in the England forward.

It is understood the Red Devils are resigned to the fact they cannot sell Rashford this month and a loan deal is their only option.

The news coincides with the Hammers appointing Graham Potter as their new manager on Thursday morning.

Julen Lopetegui was sacked on Wednesday after a dismal eight months in charge and left West Ham 14th in the Premier League.

Former Chelsea and Brighton boss Potter has signed a two-and-a-half year contract at the London Stadium.

"Very excited, very proud day to be head coach of this amazing club," he said in his debut press conference.

"It's a big tradition, big history, big expectation. A big challenge. It's a bit like Christmas for the adults.

"Excited, not the best of sleeps last night just from excitement. Really looking forward to meeting the players, meeting our supporters and getting going."

Rashford may become the latest player to swap United for West Ham after Aaron Wan-Bissaka completed a move last summer.

The right-back has impressed in his first season at the club having started in 18 of his 20 Premier League appearances so far.

Jesse Lingard enjoyed a strong spell in east London when he signed on loan from United for the second half of the 2020/21 season.

He netted nine goals and assisted another four in 16 outings but, despite being linked with a permanent switch, he left in the following summer.

Rashford is thought to be the highest earner at United on more than £300,000-a-week.

The forward has scored seven goals in 24 appearances this season but hasn't played in the Premier League since December 7.

Amorim omitted Rashford from his squad for four consecutive league matches before naming him on the bench in their 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle.

He also missed the 2-2 draw against rivals Liverpool on Sunday but this was due to illness.

Now – according to UOL in Brazil – West Ham have made a bid to sign Arthur Cabral on loan.

Image

West Ham make Arthur Cabral proposal

The Brazilian news outlet are now claiming that West Ham have submitted an offer to take the 26-year-old on loan from Benfica for the rest of the season.

UOL believe the east Londoners were even willing to include a purchase option for the summer, although Benfica are not currently entertaining such an offer.

The report states that both West Ham and Torino have seen loan proposals rejected by the Portuguese giants, with Benfica preferring to sell Cabral on an outright permanent deal this month.

However, Bruno Lage is still using the Brazilian striker regularly as a substitute, so Benfica do not plan to make an exit easy for the South American, and will only consider “interesting” bids.

Benfica paid €25m (£20.8m) to sign the man born in Campina Grande from Fiorentina back in August 2023 – so you would imagine any bid would need to be close to that figure.

Cabral – who boasts 130 goals in 313 games across his career – has scored five goals in 20 appearances so far this season.
