Indeed. As I posted on the Potter thread. Worrying sigs that Potter can't manage games when the opposition wakes up. Sit back and wait to concede seemed to be the tactic. A la Moyes and a load of deadbeat previous managers before him.

I can see why this guy has a lowly 32% win percentage as a top flight manager.

We became ragged too as we became tired and gaps started opening up especially once they scored. Psychological impact of conceding is huge on a fragile team confidence.  In the end it simply came down to a very thin squad in terms of Premiership quality. Potter in one training session did make things simple for the players to understand and it was effective for 45 mins. But once Summerville went off it was a case of trying to hang on as we were unbalanced up front and Ings coming on for him was like going down to 10 men. No out ball at all possible, we tired and no strength on the bench. One fortuitious goal for Villa but they brought on Onana and others and we brough on Ings, Coufal and Cresswell Dads Army. That then made them a lot stronger than us and we capitulated.

Nice little burst at the end but again lack of quality saw a couple of decent chances wasted.

Potter needs time and now reinforcements

He’s a proper player. He’ll make mistakes as he gains experience, of course. But this particular Jan-May period is a great time to blood him now. The aim should be to have him ready and experienced for next season.

Agreed, he was excellent.

I think we might see Casey soon as well.

I’d like to see Irvine play as well.

Switching to a back 5 cost us though. Should have brought on Soler or Guilherme. Instead we invited pressure and crumbled.

Fabianski, Ings, Cresswell, Coufal, Soucek and both the CB’s are simply not good enough. Add to that 3 crocked strikers and we are in trouble if we don’t make a couple of key signings in January.

Switching? We played back 5 from the start. Was classic Potter....Wan Bissaka played right side centre back, Summerville played right wing back, Scarles left wing back, and a box midfield with a striker?

Trouble was we lost the players to make the system work...but wlthe setup didn't change....just the players in the setup.

We became ragged and panicky once Coufal came on I thought he unsettled the back four.Paquetá on the left Kudus central and Jimmy on the right was superb from Potter shame the injuries disrupted the line up. Scarles was excellent .

We probably need to offload some players (even if it’s those out on loan moving permanently).

Ings, for example, is on £100,000+ a week. And he’s utterly awful.

We need more pace. We need more movement. In every area of the pitch.

A couple of loan signings, bring back a couple of players out on loan and promote some youth would sort 80% of our problems.

Yep - agree with that, LJC. It’s going to have to be the way forward. Late-era Moyes, Lope and Steidten have created a mess that will take any decent manager at least a couple of windows to unpick.

The situation with the centre backs is an emergency. They are both poor.
Whatever way we look at it, it was a lot a lot better but with massive glaring issues that need addressing.

Despite that shit result I can honestly say that for the first time in years I’m feeling optimistic about our future.
As we all know Flop has left us with a lot of duds, but from what I saw before those two injuries and the fake corner, Potter had performed wonders in the few hours he had with the players.
He’ll need at least two windows to sort things out and Sullivan is going to have to pay to make up for his mistakes but I now have confidence in Potter and look forward to what he can achieve.

You could see signs of improvement before the subs.
#9 has to be a priority now after the way Fullkrug went down.

Then I guess we have to shift one or two & try and get a loan deal for centre midfield.

at the moment I’d happily have Aguerd & JWP back.

Players looked more comfortable and seemed to understand their roles.

Lack of squad depth cost us the game. Soon as Summerville went off we were weakened. Fullkrug going off too major blow in such a weak squad.

as mentioned, Potter was never going to do much to solve the issues in midfield ( lack of pace, athleticism) and while we more compact and much better out of possession, inevitably players tire or get injured and we have no one to replace them.

Aside from the awful feigning injury that Paqueta does, he was one of our better players. Scarles vwry encouraging 60-70 mins and AWB solid. Kilman was solid but needs pace alongside. Both he and Stavris tired too and we are asking Coufal to be a 3rd CB as we had no other options.  Soucek worked hard and was ok.

Biggest disappointment again for me was Kudus. Anonymous for much of the game and teally missing Vowen presence.

Nothing learned about the players like Ings, Coufal and Cresswell. They are simply below the standards needed in the Premiership now.

Potter’s challenge is now to field a team fir Fulham able to compete and create chances.

Overall some encouragement mixed with confirmation of urgent need for reinforcements to be able to see out the season

Then returned to a back 4 with what looked like 4-4-2. C!early showed he was wrong and with a bit more time we would have equalised. Shame. Yep lost it with Moysiah move.
Early days, but very disappointing to go out after being 1 up and very in control.

So fucking frustrating this team. For me game changed when Summerville & Fullkrock went off. Kudus ok first half then non existent. not great, Soucek was Soucek. Paqueta good first half, embarassing performance second half. Defending piss poor. Scarles the only positive to come out of this game.

Maybe it’s a blessing this one. In terms of forcing the clubs hand.

We won’t survive this league without Fullkrug, Bowen and that “striker” Ings… they’ll have to spend big in Jan.
if Summervilles injury is serious we’d probably drop like a stone if we don’t reinforce this squad.

the 1st half showed what we are capable of. The second half showed what will happen in the league if we don’t fix this now.

Oh get over yourself, COYI: the guy had two hours with the players yesterday. That’s it. There are no “worrying signs” that have anything to do with Potter.

That defeat tonight was on Lope, Moyes and Steidten who, between them, bought some poor players (expensively) we now need to offload.
