Loads to be positive about tonight. First half was excellent. Clearly we tired in the second half because of the effort put in but all the players looked like they knew what they were doing, the structure was clear to see from the tv cameras and we attacked really well in the first half and with purpose.

After one training session it was night and day with what we’ve seen in the last few years and six months particularly. He got a lot more out of the players than Lop ever did.

im optimistic he’s going to really get a tune out of the players and with some additions I think we will look a hell of a lot better than we’ve been for a while.

actually looking forward to Tuesday.

Got to put one behind us. Hopefully potter got an initial look at the performances tonight and can get to work.

We’ve wasted the better half of a season on failed recruitment, so now let’s at last we can move forward in the way we hope to.

At least someone else sees sense.

Potter had us too deep second half (which he admitted in his post match interview). It simply invited pressure and we couldn't live with Villa after they woke up.

We then had a go in the last 10 minutes after we went behind.

In fact, this was classic Moyes-ball tactics in evidence tonight.

Graham "32% win ratio" Potter will have to go some to convince he has what it takes to manage us to the next level.

sense? he's as thick as you

Oh here we go, down to name calling. Well done Miike for going straight to abuse and not adding to the debate.

We still had Paqueta, Kudus and Ings who's not exactly a great deal of difference with Fullcrock with regards to impact in a game. Score and assist about the same (with actually half the number of minutes compared to the BFG) and probably even share the same amount of time in the Physiosroom too they can happily compare together. Honestly, as a Club our expensive poor unfit Striker signings are legendary. 😂

Ings situation  grinds my teeth when I think about his weekly wedge.
Nuffin personal to him..but it's a kick in the minerals for us.

Fair play to Potter for starting Scarles, he didn't let us down just like he didn't in his previous appearances for us in the 1st Team. And after seeing him perform like that from the start, he's now making a strong case to continue on even if Emerson is available next game. The boy is mustard. The Academy can feel proud of themselves for this one. 👏

I also thought Potter managed the entire 1st half very well by taking a deserved lead in to the break. We looked sharp, eager and yes everyone knew exactly what was asked of them, which is a fair criticism of Lopetegui.

In the 2nd half however I thought he managed it poorly. We weren't on the front foot like we was in the 1st half inviting too much pressure and it felt inevitable in the end they would concede at least once. Cash and Bailey started the 2nd half like I thought he would from the start and they kept coming for us down the right and Potter decided in the end to take off a tiring Scarles to try and sure that side up but ut was too little, too late unfortunately.

Overall I saw some encouraging signs I liked and some things I didn't, which was a decent considering he only rocked up yesterday.

Did think it was uncanny that the 1st Team both Managers faced in their new roles was Villa and the result was 2-1 to them on both occasions for fuck sake. 😆

How any bods can have a moan up about tonight is a fool .
I saw good fings and we lost two crucial players .
Ollie got a good run out that will hopefully  boost his confidence.

Potter spot on with comments about great attitude, commitment and application of ideas. Its what he barely mentions or in passing thats telling for me. The “execution”  of what was asked. He’s working out or confirming who can really do what’s needed.

The activity in this window is going to be very interesting.  I suspect Emerson will go as there is a chance if getting funds and he’ll get Chilwell in and with Scarles thats one side covered.

Its central midfield and now striker thats key though. If we go for some energy/ athleticism in centre mid that will confirm he knows what he’s doing with this squad in terms of the gaps.  We have lacked this for years. Goes back to before BFS.

A striker is now a must too but thata obvioys now with the FullCrock injury confirming his nickname 🥴

Come On You Irons" wrote: 10 Jan 2025, 23:04 Why should Potter get a pass because it was his first game?

He chose to manage the game tonight. He chose the low block Moyes-ball tactics of the second half and he chose to do nothing to address the situation when Villa got on top of us and it was obvious that it was only a matter of time before they breeched us and our low block, surrender monkey tactics.

Potter himself admitted we sat too deep second half. Yet apparently supporters are not allowed to criticise him for that because he in his honeymoon period. What absolute nonsense.

Seems some of our loser fans don't care that we are out of the FA Cup again after blowing a lead. It's this blasé attitude that has held the club back for so long and allowed boards to take the piss and not get us to where our potential as a club should be, which is a regular top ten side seriously competing for the domestic cups (see Newcastle).

Potter needs to convince he is the man to take us to the next level. Especially given his win ratio as a top flight manager is a lowly 32%, which is abysmal after 169 games quite frankly.

Switching? We played back 5 from the start. Was classic Potter....Wan Bissaka played right side centre back, Summerville played right wing back, Scarles left wing back, and a box midfield with a striker?

Trouble was we lost the players to make the system work...but wlthe setup didn't change....just the players in the setup.
That’s not how I saw it. Although Summerville tracked back a few times to make good tackles he was advanced on the flank and our best attacker.

Once Coufal came on we had a flat 5 and suddenly looked ragged and were always one man less going forward.
I agree that was the outcome...but you only had to look at the team shape, the back 3 line up with Wan Bissaka dropping in, and to know Potters history for using wide players like Summerville at wingback to know and see we started -3-4-3 with a box midfield (2 CDM, 2 AM). It was clear as day, and classic Potter team structure. It's how he sets teams up. At Brighton is was Solly March and Trossard at wing back, and today it was Summerville and Scarles.

All he then did was run out of personnel to make it work. When Summerville got injured the toss up was Guilherme to play wingback, or Coufal with one of him or Wan Bissaka to go to right wing back.

Trouble was it weakened us in two areas and he'd likely have been better leaving Wan Bissaka at right centre back and sticking Coufal at RWB.

I did not see that at all. What I will give you is that if Wan Bissaka went forward Scarles stayed back and visa versa if Scarlez went forward Wan Bissaka stayed back, when attacking we had a back 3. When defending we had a back of just about everyone, as usual.
