"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Just been reading about the full cost of the Aaron Rodgers shitshow in New York - and also what happened between him, Aaron Glenn (new HC) and Darren Mougey (new GM).

Seemingly, Glenn told him: IF you stay, you’re going to be merely one of the 53 on the roster. You’re going to come to every practice. And you’re not going to do that weird shit on Pat McAfee anymore.

It seems to have been designed to get rid of him, because they knew he'd hate that (especially the "no special treatment and you turn up to every practice" bit). So they parted company.

Rich Eisen gave a good breakdown of what Rodgers achieved Vs what he cost.
  • 2023 season:                  Four snaps.
  • 2024 season:                  Five wins.
  • $49m in dead cap money.
  • Of which they can save $9.5m if they officially release him after 1 June (which they will)
  • We gave up a first-round pick, TWO second-round picks and a sixth-round pick to land him.
  • We also spent a third-round pick to get Devante Adams specifically to keep Rodgers happy.
Great quarterback in his prime, which was several seasons ago. But a complete failure at the Jets. He’s in decline and he’s an unpalatable narcissist to boot (refusing voluntary camps etc).

It’s going to take us some time to work that, and the financial/draft implications, out of our system. They've already taken all Rodgers-related merchandise out of the stores.

Aaron Glenn wants to build a team, not a Disneyland-style distraction. I like the cut of his jib. But he’s got a mountain to climb!

Yes mate. Did the 3 play off games and had tickets for the superbowl but she insisted on being in philly when we won. Superbowl is a bit like the world Cup final, 80% corporates and then 'fans' who are prepared to pay silly money. We'll do another year in more appealing location i suspect. Had to come back Wednesday so missing the parade today but same again, you end up queueing for hours, see them drive past and tgats it. Better off watching on the tv.... although given that Coop got off the bus and others followed,  probably better than most parades.

Fun (or not) fact, was sat near to Phoebe SCHECTER on the flight over for the commanders game. Almost unbelievably tiny, but incredibly pleasant and really good to chat to. NEIL wasn't with her sadly.

Have a gut feeling that Jameis Winston would actually do OK in New York. Been in the league for nine seasons, and obviously has a good arm.

Hes a gunslinger, so his Achilles heel has always been throwing too many interceptions. So he’d frustrate people, of course, and we’d lose the odd game purely because of that. But he’d be calmed by a run-first playbook and, capacity-wise, he opens up the field for us. He’s also a leader and has got a bit of New York swagger, so won’t care much about the ultra-intrusive media.

It’s often horses for courses in the NFL. I’d be tempted to call him. He could later begin to give way to Travis if the back-up works out.

Yep, not a bad call at all, TM.

Ward and Sanders will go in the top six picks (probably the top three), it leaves quite a gap before you’d expect to see the next QB. Somebody might come up the board to take Dart - who I like - but most predict he’ll be a late first rounder.

If we decide to draft a QB, he looks the most likely - or perhaps Milroe. Both decent prospects, but both passable.

If Glenn goes to the market, then Fields and Winston look the most likely stop-gaps.

I guess it all hinges on Travis Jordan’s health/fitness. I’m sure they want to look at him at some point next season. But he’s been way off a full recovery, and he hasn’t thrown a single pass as a professional yet.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Glenn goes Winston-Jordan-Taylor for next season, and turns to the 2026 draft if it fails.

Rodgers confirms he’s leaving the Jets.

What a friggin’ shitshow that was for two years. A poor decision to trade for him, made worse by his unfortunate injury and a head coach who didn’t really know much about offense (or how to appoint somebody capable of delivering a good offense).

But Rodgers was too much of a narcissist. Certainly wasn’t much of a team player (ignored voluntary training camps etc). It’s telling that, publicly, almost none of his team-mates urged him to stay.

Big Q now is do we draft a QB this year? And who starts in September?

Only ever rushed 4, leaving 7 in coverage so on the rare occasion he did have time, he had nowhere to go. Some throwaway stats yards at the end against the back ups, but 34-0 and 40-6 a much fairer reflection of the game. It was an absolute annihilation.

Have to say, i was far more worried about the commanders than the chiefs. Theyve been getting away with it all season and if you put the two rosters down next to each other, mahomes is the only one I'd take. We're better than them everywhere. Howie Roseman is a genius and probably the best off season in history.

And whatever footage of kermit getting burned or anything else gets shown, the party on broad street was great, with almost no trouble at all.

The Chiefs did the opposite as Steve Spagnuolo concentrated on stopping Saquon Barkley leaving one to one match ups deep and/or Godert being open.
When he, inevitably, called up an all out blitz Jalen Hurts just sprinted into the open field where the sateties uised to be.

Tom Brady was just as bad.
He spent the entire game talking about himself.

He was absolutely terrible.
His half time passer rating of 51 was Nathan Peterman bad.
Just goes to show what happens when a defence properly gets to him.
I was wrong thinking the Eagles O-line wuld make the difference. Their defence was all over the Chiefs the entire game.

Excellent performance by the Eagles’ defense. No mean feat to sack Mahomes six times.

What a boring season, though, in terms of predictability. Eagles were deserved winners, but the Commanders and Lions lit things up for a while.

The Bills went Spursy when it mattered - again - and my lot were just shit. Again!
and the Vikings were doing what the Vikings does.
