When my kids came to live with me in Stockholm, I took them for a weekend trip to the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvvi (near Kiruna) and we spend a night in it. Bedroom temperature was -5 degrees Celsius and the loos were outside (-40) in a Wigwam.

Apparently it started as a memorial to a Japanese Scientist/Researcher who lost his life up there and it became more and more elaborate every year.

They built a small copy in Stockholm but that seemed to be the equivalent of the hotels you can rent by the hour in many parts of the world.

I wanted to take the overnight train up there from Stockholm (it had a cinema carriage, along with a bar (naturally) and a carriage that was configured as a kids play area). Sadly we didn't have the time, so we flew up, which the kids also enjoyed.

From memory, the "Ice hotel" is a temporary build which is rebuilt each season.  It sits alongside a rather fancy permanent hotel in which there all mod cons. If you spent the night(s) in the Ice hotel, you needed  strong bladder or you faced a chilly trek to the main building. It might have been via a connecting corridor but it could have been a short walk outside. The "Ice Hotel" consisted of bedrooms, a reception hall, display   area, and a chapel for weddings. There was no heating! But they did supply animal furs on the beds not that I stayed for the night. Had a drink in the bar, though and all drinks were in "glasses" made of ice. No washing up necessary.
