Wouldn't it be nice if we had a manager with charisma and style?
A manager who, after a shit season, had the personality and gravitas to persuade the best players to stay and build a good quality, competitive team around, to encourage new, exciting players to join the club with the best of the academy players having a real pathway into the first team?
Wouldn't it be nice not to hear the best players being hawked around to finance a "major rebuild"?
Wouldn't it be nice to either be linked with good players and get them in rather than the usual noise which inevitably falls flat?
Wouldn't it be nice to have a manager who comes in and not only talks about understanding the fans but actually sets about playing the style of football we crave?
Wouldn't it be nice if the environment at West Ham had players like Kudus; Paqueta; Bowen; Todibo; talking about how much they want to do for this club in the future rather than the platitudes after another shit loss about how much better they could have been or how they have underperformed either individually or collectively to date?
I agree that Potter is not responsible for all of these concerns; however he has done very little to dispel the general miasma during his short tenure.

My hope, and no doubt some others are thinking the same, is that we are going to have a very big overhaul of players this summer, in and out. I also think that recent results and performances has now hastened that and also we 'may be' less sentimental in handing out another year to the old timers. The whole thing needs changing and I hope that's what the chat is behind the scenes. Potter was asked yesterday if he was thinking about the summer now, he answered definitely not and in this business you can only think about the next game. An absolute 100% lie. Of course he is. The cսnt was even spotted out in Lille last month.

So, we are going to be looking at a very different side come August IMO, will that make us better (it should) will it make us more entertaining and attacking? Don't know, but I hope so.

It's going to be a long end to the season, a bit like waiting for your summer holiday that you booked in January.

Let’s be honest here, outside the awful 3 promoted teams we are the worst team in the league. We have been the worst team for quite some time now.

My worry is that we are becoming like Everton pre Moyes. Constantly around 15th to 17th place and staying up because there’s always 3 shitty teams we can beat.

Not much more that can be said.

But its very much clearly a balance issue. Defence needed fixing and Potter has done that but clearly to the detriment of scoring goals. Potter needs to take the brake off and instil a more attacking style to make the most of the possession we have. But something tells me that he doesn't have that in him. As others have said, our style currently is simply not workable if we concede first as the other team sits in and watches us pass it sideways and backwards.

Its disappointing that Potter's only improvement is to make us look more solid defensively. Under Lope we did look like conceding each time our opponent attacked - Now that's clearly not the case - But we all expected much more. It's hugely disappointing and frustrating.

As for sacking him - For me that's just daft talk. We aren't getting relegated and I genuinely believe Potter deserves a window and a pre-season to try and get the team re-ignited. Then we see where we go from there.

The fundamental problem though is and always will be the dwarf and his utter incompetency at running a football club.

The owner only appoints unemployed managers end of story. Sullivan does not value managers or head coaches very highly so will not pay to get them although has to pay a decent wage as he still wants one that has some ( usually 5 - 10 years ago ) reputation of success. Ideally at a "big club".  He probably has that 30 year old view that getting the right players is all that matters most and that "he" knows who to get and to be the architect of success.  30 years of football club ownership proves the complete opposite.  But being the narcissistic type he is, that awareness or admission would never enter his mind. He knows best and always will.

A "Hobsons Choice" in some senses. Sacking Potter now will likely mean another poor appointment. Moyes brief success ( 2-3 seasons ) was stumbled upon in reality. Brought in to ensure no further slip into relegation and do as told ( not sure Bilic would have been any worse ) but advent of COVID, right group of players to execute Moyesball successfully for 2 seasons leading to a cup in the 3rd season.   Chances of that happening again slim and tbh would not be sustained.

Potter is Brady's choice so Sullivan indulging her and waiting for it to completely unravel and return to him picking the next failure and fully resuming recruitment choices.

Potter has been a disappointment of that there is no denying, mind you the whole season has been one of the worst I can remember, he did come in at a time with no much to play for, not like relegation was ever on the cards and Europe only a long shot and that quickly disappeared, personally think he needs more time and should be judged on how we start next season rather than what’s happening in this, he did try something different against Wolves at least, unfortunately just highlighting how much dead wood we have, seems another summer to try and rebuild and offload, sadly this seems to be a recurring theme.

All a bit meh and here we fucking go again though, almost soul destroying for us fans😔

When you watch his pressers Potter really doesn't come over as a man of confidence and authority, or with any personality (given his position and hefty salary). He doesn't hold fort or take any control. You just see a meek, soulless man answering every question like an AI bot. Have to wonder what he's like in the dressing room and in training etc.

As with the predecessors Potter is a symptom of a much deeper problem. Our club is a badly run shambles who cannot/will not learn. Potter's football at Brighton was nothing to write home about. He sat comfortably in a business like, process driven organisation, even then, the goal creation/scoring was abysmal.
Other managers in a similar appointment position to Potter, E.G. at Wolves, have taken what is available and stimulated a positive response with far lesser players than those available to Potter. This also happened at Palace last year. There are other examples. Performances under Potter, however, have gotten progressively worse and I no longer buy the "wait until he has his own players" crap. Paqueta; Kudus and Bowen have all largely been available to Potter. All would walk into any other Premier League team. But, just like Lopetegui, Potter has failed to get anywhere near the best out of them. If anything, Paqueta has been the most consistent; but Kudus looks hesitant and Bowen woefully short of confidence.
I would happily part company with Potter as he looks clueless, he may have fixed the defence but gets nothing out of the flair players, some of whom we won't have next year, and the football is fucking awful.
My concern is twofold. If we keep Potter I think we will be in a relegation fight next year. If we let Potter go, however, we simply cannot trust the board to come up with anything other than another cheap, prize wanker.
Moyes a poor appointment? I’ve heard some shit on here.

Potter will be good for us, stop wetting yourselves.
Moyes had failed at Manchester, Sunderland and in Spain when we first appointed him. In replacing Billic he amassed about the same number of points as Slav. He was unemployed and cheap. When he replaced Pellegrini, his last job? West Ham, again unemployed and cheap. His best season was Covid disrupted so no one saw it live! He subsequently nearly got relegated with a midfield of Paqueta and Rice, The European success papering over the cracks of a poor performance in the league.
Lopetegui was unemployed and cheap.
Potter was unemployed and cheap.
None of those managers were renown for an attractive style of football.
Not knicker wetting at all, simply stating the facts.
The board make poor, cheap appointments and eventually the luck will run out. Meanwhile we will watch shit football whilst always hoping for so much more.

Agree with Mike T "playing this style of football is suicidal if you don't get the first goal".

Iraola's Bournemouth struggling recently ( same points as Potter since he started ) so obviously its a good time to play West Ham.  I am pessimistic ( as always admittedly ) that Potter, even with a transfer window and assuming he gets most of what he wants / needs in terms of players ( young, athletic etc in midfield, striker, wing back) , will turn the form around enough while also providing the "entertaining" football the owners are insisting on ( to ensure us fans stop grumbling but more importantly keep renewing season tickets and giving them revenue ).

But, we sack him without giving him that transfer window? No not IMO.   "Give him the rope" possibly but also Sullivan will get the next unemployed chump and nothing much will change.   We probably should be like Watford, only chance of getting it right for a short while as in Moyes which he stumbled on as the right man at the right time before it predictably unravelled due to the farcical way the club is run by our owner and specifically how we recruit. No strategy, no long term plan, scatter gun.

We had 3 seasons of relative success. Cannot see much changing and a uptick again until Sullivan dies and his family ownership majority is over.  Knowing our luck though someone worse will take ownership

Tell me how we're supposed to move up the table next year if he has no interest in scoring goals? The evidence is there wherever he's been, defend at all costs and scoring goals is the least important thing. Didn't you listen to his bollocks when taking over, "I understand the West Ham way, that the fans want to watch decent football". Every game bar the first match, he's had five defenders and three (sometimes four) central midfielders. You may think that's acceptable, I think it's shit. And what's the stupid fucking reference to Spurs that all you halfwits make? I'm not an armchair manager, but playing this style of football is suicidal if you don't get the first goal

The Spurs fans reference is about as cringe as it gets, and I doubt most of the sheep who quote it have no idea what it even means? We're more tolerant and patient of non performing managers than Spurs fans, really, since when?? A lot of our fan based wanted John Lyall out, as the banners testified.

He's played 8 defensive players to stop us leaking goals and when he hasn't we've been no better than before, I hope he succeeds but nothing I've seen is suggesting he will.

If the only way you can fix the defense is by not attacking then you're not really fixing anything. Especially if you're still losing most games.

We've gone from averaging 12 shots per game under Moyes to 14 under Lopetegui down to only 9 under Potter. That's a huge drop off.
