The Championship

Post Sydney_Iron »

Very much a 3-horse race for the 2 automatic promotion spots between Burnley, Leeds and Sheffield United, one teams fans are going to be gutted they don't make it especially seeing how far ahead of the pack all 3 are, but at least they will have the play off opportunity and would imagine be hot favorites to go up that way.

Sunderland look nailed on for 4th, then a decent gap to 4 teams vying for 5th and 6th currently Middlesbrough and Bristol City, but these positions change weekly, WBA and Coventry held them last weekend!

Leeds and Burnley to get the Automatic promotion, would love to see Bristol City get the play off place but realistically its going to be Sunderland or Sheffield United.

Mind you whomever comes up is almost nailed on to go back down such is the gap between the 2 divisions now, will need a PL team to really turn to shit to see any change IMO, then expect the likes of Leicester, Southampton and Ipswich to be near or at the top of the Championship and coming back up to replace the 3 new boys from 2025 in 2026!

Big question is, whoever is promoted, can they last more than a season or are we going to see the promoted teams relegated each season and shit like Crystal fucking Surrey cսnt Palace linger in the league?
We ran through Bristols mob when we travellled there for the cup replay

Some interesting results tonight! Leeds go top after beating Boro away, Sheffield United lose away at Millwall so slip out of the top 2 after Burnley get a draw at Derby, Bristol City go 3 points clear in the pack chasing 5th and 6th, beating WBA with a last-minute winner, George Earthy playing the full 90 mins, going to be great experience for him in this chase and hopefully playoff games!

Will be ok with me if Leeds come back up, don't like Sheffield united so Burnley can be runners up, Sunderland look nailed on for 4th, then a big gap to the pack after the last 2 play off places, Currently Bristol City front runners but all the sides in the pack are inconsistent so anyone's guess🤷‍♂️

Plenty of games tonight.

I see Boro have quietly slipped into the play off's, even them or Sunderland coming up would do me. Just don't want Sheffield United and that cսnt Wilder back in the PL.

I went to QPR v Leeds the other week as I live close by. Reminded me very much of Upton Park days. Close enough to the pitch to smell the turf mixed with the smell of fried onions coming from the behind the stands. Able to get a beer and a half decent burger at half time without a ridiculous queue. Football wasn't as slick - and that's saying something considering the state of our current team - but it was more enjoyable than the average game at the London Stadium.

Many premier League stadiums look to have significant amount of empty seats these days. But then again I remember there being plenty of empty seats at the LS under Pellegrini too. For a few seasons post-covid it seemed to be pick up, but people drifting away again. Can't blame them.

Didn’t have PSR back then. The parachute payments are to stop teams going under after relegation, PSR means they can’t get into that position now.

The parachute payments have ruined the championship. The 3 coming down are (by and large) coming straight back up…….. and then going back down again.

with PSR I don’t think they need these parachute payments anymore. It gives them such an advantage.

My most enjoyable season ever as a West Ham supporter was one of the Championship seasons, I went to most matches and you never knew what to expect. It's much more sterile and dull in the top flight, knowing we won't finish in the top five before you even start

I'd love Sunderland back in the big time and mixing it with the insufferable Geordies.

Leeds are having their usual end of season wobble so you could see them blowing it again
Would love to see Bristol City make the playoffs and George Earthy get some high pressure games … I see he was back in the team again
As said you could see all 3 that come up struggle to cope with the gap to Premier league teams
Still really tight at the bottom with 6 to play
Looks like Luton might drop straight through but even QPR in 16th aren’t safe yet being 5 points ahead of 3rd bottom
Portsmouth with Freddie Potts still have a bit to do
Definitely the most competitive league

Looks like it will be 3 northern clubs coming up, which ain't a bad thing imo as there are too many London derbies as it is.

I want Leeds to come up, but they are threatening to bottle it again as they did last term. Can't stand either Burnley or Sheff Utd, but because of 3x Hammer of the year Scotty Parker I'll go with Burnley.

Play off's, wouldn't mind Sunderland returning to the big time.
