We still have to take into consideration that the squad is full off players who are ready to be offloaded next season. Also, the bench is alarmingly poor.
Potter might be shit, but these players has mainly been shit the past couple of years.

Yet again, we were shit in the first half. We get away with it, and take the lead. Then he gives the momentum back to them. A team that before today had 10 points from 32 games, and a minus 54 goal difference.

Factoring in Sullivan now back where he wants to be as de facto DOF and negotiator, I would place odds of 70:30 it being an another awful season ahead.  

Even if Potter is better than we think, he and Macaulay wont get in who they want or certainly not many of them.  If they go for younger, less expensive players, Sullivan will still play out his “art of the deal” antics like his fellow narcissist Trump does and insist on derisory bids, unrealistic payment terms etc.  It will be small amounts of 2 - 3 million sometimes but Sullivan’s ego has to be fed by him exerting, what in his head, is power in negotiations.  

This season or whats left of it?  I just dont see things improving much more.  You can see we are trying ( albeit mostly unsuccessfully in terms of results ) to control the possession. I mean we got 60% in the Liverpool game but we are not turning it into enough good chances and when we do get a few we invariably dont finish many of them if any.  My opinion remains that the central midfield squad is so imbalanced that its almost impossible to pick 3 to compete with most any team in the Premier League and coupled with having no centre forward has left us toothless. Shocking squad management and recruitment before and since Rice left

 

 

That's rather pessimistic even for you, Alf. I think the glass half full footnote to this is that we have, despite results seen a noticeable uptick in the (second half) performances in recent games. We could have won at Liverpool on another day and we probably could have beaten both Wolves and Bournemouth. There are signs we are moving away from that Moyes low block style to something easier on the eye but you are right it is painfully obvious where we are lacking, 

We need a very solid window, and if its going to be limited this year because of the amount pissed up the wall last year, then they all need to be hits and no duds. They need to be on this NOW and not waiting for panic stations in July and August.

I might be remembering it wrong with Lop then, but I felt he was a healthy scratch a lot more than perhaps he was. I don't see a great deal to grumble about with Potter's management of his return from injury though and it's not purely about minutes, it's also about how the game is going at that point. Yes I'd have liked to have seen him play more against Liverpool and that was probably the plan but we were on top so you could argue for not disrupting what was working at that time. He was never starting that one over starting this weekend though. As I just said I'll be shocked if he's not starting on Saturday.

Don't be daft. Why would playing for 30-40 minutes rather than 12 minutes stop him from starting a match 6 days later? If anything it would have helped him last longer and play better in the next game, as well as maybe giving us a chance to get something out of the Liverpool game.

All that stuff about caution and managing his minutes very closely could have just as easily been applied to Lopetegui, but in his case you made up that it was about spite.

We're barely seeing any goals every week, especially for us, that's why he's taken us from 13th in the league to 17th (THIRTEENTH to SEVENTEENTH). His teams have always struggled to score goals, so quite why anyone thinks that'll change after this summer is anyone's guess.

I just think he deserves to be judged after a pre-season and a transfer window where he hopefully gets backed. If we’re still struggling to score with a fit Fullkrug next season (and hopefully another decent striker), then fair enough he should get some stick

I'm looking forward to the early excuses next season of 'he can't be expected to get all the new players to gel straight away' after having a full pre-season as well as the end to this season. He has Jarrod Bowen, and England international forward, Kudus, who's been rated at £100mil on here before, Paqueta who Man City nearly signed for £85mil. Soler was signed by PSG, he has an outstanding pedigree. Other clubs would kill for that attacking talent.

No one can answer why Wolves were able to turn from being 19th in the league, mixing with the absolute dross who are about to be relegated this season, into a really good, attacking team. Why has their manager been able to do that with an inferior squad to ours?

I've said before, we have a big problem over that stadium. I'm not sure if you go to games, but for those who do,  it needs something to cheer about over there to build a bit of spirit in the club. This geezer has no excuse to not be going all out in home games, we' re lucky enough that we won't finish below 17th (although he's done his best to get close) so quite why the fuck he's bored the home fans to tears trying to draw 0-0 regardless of opposition, is anyone's guess.

Trust me, loads are not going to renew, because it's such an effort going over there watching that dross. Very easy posting on here 'give him time!' when you don't make the time & effort, as well as the cost, to go over there. He has a duty to try to show much more than what we've been served up.

Yes I turn up regular with my son even with us having moved to Somerset. Went to the Palace game which was awful, thought we played ok against Bournemouth. And yes we will again be going vs Southampton where I expect us to win comfortably. Ask me after that game, I may well have  changed my tune dependant on the result and performance !!

Fair play to you mate, not sure I'd be schlepping up from there to watch us play without a striker against the likes of an out of form Bournemouth. I'm struggling enough with a half hour journey. So many I know are sacking it off next season.

I can't understand why we can't play like we do away, and really go for it at home from the off. People are going on like we've got pub players, we have some unbelievable attacking talent, we're just playing such a negative, bland style of football. I really don't see it improving much next season.
