I suspect Sullivan is gambling on empty seats in the stadium being filled by tourists eager to get a slice of Brand PL, not Brand West Ham.

Either way he sees it as a win-win on account of a one-time tourist being much more likely than an old skooler to buy "souvenirs" (read half-and-half scarves/bobble hats) from the club shop every game to take home with them.

To be honest, for all the amount of moaning about so called time wasting low bids for players, it’s more alarming to me how much we will actually pay over the odds for the players we end up with.

Kilman cost us almost half of Declan Rice’s fee. That absolutely fucking sickens me.

If Sullivan wasn’t chairman the board would have sacked any chairman that had seen the crippling decline of the last few years.

Your point on over paying for garbage is excellent. Sullivan spends a lot of club money but invests fuck all.

My point is fundamental. World Class Team in a World Class Stadium. Sullivan and Brady have had ample time to deliver on that promise and they haven't; neither have they shown any intention of doing so. Survival will do nicely to keep their gravy train rolling.
A few shit signings and a few shit managers. When we do find some pearls then we have the managers to devalue them then try to flog them before the value disappears completely. It is always someone else's fault when the result is, well, shit.
The ground is a disgrace; the training facilities a disgrace; and the standard of play and results for a team with the second highest attendance in the premier league a disgrace.  
BS are unfit and incapable of running our great club and, whilst they protect the legacy of a long line of shysters, that doesn't mean we, as supporters, shouldn't hold them to account for their continually falling short of providing what we, as supporters, are due and what they promised.  

Great post. Mine wasn't meant to sound dismissive of yours. As like you I pay almost no attention to transfer gossip nowadays. It's the finalised ones that matter, albeit the failures can waste valuable time and  lead us down strange paths scrambling to find willing signings and it deserves scrutiny. 

It's just too embarrassing for me now to watch how we continually operate, with little to no structure or ethos regarding recruitment, or long term building. We look like we're on the cusp of the type of mess we were in when G&S took over than resurrecting the club to competing for European spots again.

As much as I understand how much the stadium is hated by many, it's actually one of the only modern elements we have to show players we're an attractive proposition, showcasing we have massive support.  That support keeps us afloat in the PL, as we have a big financial advantage over newly promoted teams. The question is how long before fans start turning away in big enough numbers it reduces that advantage?

8.5m for a 20m player? That is a lot for a World Class negotiator securing world class talent at this point in the window. 
Create a lot of smoke and mirrors; work tirelessly on making ludicrous bids early on which we just, miraculously, miss out on. 
After all, we do a lot of our "best business" at the end of the transfer window when the deadbeats that the usual suspects can't shift are offered back to Dear old Dave.

Sell the best players, get in some deadbeats with no pre season, blame Macaulay and Potter, sack both around Christmas when results reflect the great man's strategy and, provided there are three worse teams than us a job well done by DS.

Fully agree with that, but you left out one vital, indisputable aspect:  we're football fans which means, by default, that we're too fucking stupid to work out what's really going on.

I mean, none of us have owned and/or ran businesses, none of us have worked in finance or public relations/the media and none of us have the ability to understand statistics and identify (obvious) trends.

The latest rumour that we have bid 85 million for a Macaulay/Potter target priced at 20 million yet more evidence ( if true of course ) that Sullivan can engineer the making or breaking of transfers via delays and derisory bids, changing terms, and all kinds of negotiating shithousery. He's done it all his business life and fvcked many many deals up he doesnt want or does not want to pay for.   Its why we have always signed a lot of older, proven, experienced players on high wages. The only younger or punt players used to be his Paulista style "gifts" to his manager they didnt ask for. 

Being a narcissist like Trump etc, he creates a crisis by not doing any deals until its late then can ride in on his white horse and save the day in the last week or two of the window with players via his shady agent network.  The bloke is incompetent at footballing negotiation or simply sabotages them ( players he doesnt pick ) and validates himself as some top negotiator or playing "hard ball" by being a bully or dick, changing terms, offering derisory bids, refusing to play agents etc etc

In other words, Sullivan makes everything about him to the detriment of the club and always has done. He's unlikely to be aware of it and the fact he is a narcissist as most narcs usually arent. 

We're on the "road to nowhere" and next season even the "road to the championship" with such an owner in control.  The conference cup win was an unintended exception to the other 10-12 years of the 15 he has been in control.  With the resources at hand and opportunities they have had its been largely abject failure during his tenure.  Worse still, and in keeping with the traits of a narcissist, he never learns, cannot ever admit being wrong or sorry and actually believes he is superior to everyone. All in line with feeling and being a "little man" all his life.  At 77 years old he aint ever gonna have an epiphany or spiritual awakening. Hope for the future may only be restored once he is no longer in charge.  Of course, knowing our luck we will get an even bigger mentalist taking over but the very low bar he has set with Brady and Gold previously suggests there is a chance we could see better days surely?
