This place definitely is DEAD these days
On a thread about what has become wrong with this website, literally a couple of back and forths in true traditional WHO style and what it's always been known for, and it gets locked. Like the Jota thread, it's the only thread that's getting any proper traction.
I'm beginning to think Manuel had the right idea. This place is being turned into KUMB.

Re: This place definitely is DEAD these days
So what on here could be funnier, what, indeed be more in the true spirit of WHO, than a site "face", a "proper, I've-done-more-for-West-Ham-than-you''ve-taken-breaths" poster letting a site no-mark boil their piss?

Re: This place definitely is DEAD these days
We all know the posters that get involved in all that together. That is not what happened, or was about to happen, not in the slightest, there was absolutely no need to lock the thread.
Re: This place definitely is DEAD these days
If it is possible to do this at all, the solution might be to lock an individual poster out of an individual thread. Once it starts going down that road we all know it's heading towards, one poster is locked out of the thread and if the other poster keeps going on about it when the first guy loses the right to reply, he gets locked too. He can still read it as it might be about West Ham, but he can't post on it because he started to ruin it earlier.
So all it is really is the removal of the reply button for one person on one thread, but like I said I don't know if that is easy to implement or even possible at all.

The site still has it's humour, however I will concede that seeing those funny moments becomes a tad more difficult if you deliberately but unintentionally make yourself the butt of the joke.

Maybe what is required is the ability to mark a post as the starting point of the descent - a little simple bit of root cause analysis that doesn't stop when it looks like it's going to end up not providing someone with the answer they want.
I'd also be happy with being able to stick my responses to such posts in the sewer, but it's not obvious to me, at least, how to do that easily with a link to the sewer people can ignore if they wish. It's very easy to mark the first post....just report it using the button to report and state that's the reason.OK, thanks. That's the issue. From my perspective, keep the topic contextual, so those who want to discuss can actually do sonwothout having to navigate what is frankly thread spam.I hear and fully understand that.

No point in banning the tedious repetitive people who undermine the excellent efforts of Stubbo. The bores live their lives through this site so they'll only pop up under a new user id. The site is doomed. Doomed I tell thee.

Oxsaw, no-one's upset by anything that gets said. They're just utterly bored by certain people who go on and on, saying the same shit over and over again. I can't really fathom how you don't get that it's about that, except out of self preservation's sake, seeing as you're one of the worst offenders for boring the fucking shit out of people.

Mods should have some balls and just ban 'em for life.
The problem is there are no 'mods'.
The dreary bores have outlasted them all, and they've all left.
There's about 10 posters on this site (the effort to put a proper total on it is beyond me) who frankly would be better setting up their own private Whatsapp group so they can have their own, never-ending repeating argument, day in, day out.
It's a discussion forum. Topics are created and get discussed. WHO lets the way those topics are discussed and explored go a bit more off piste than 99% of other mainstream forums. But the principle remains to keep it "on topic".
So a topic about 'the site is desd' that ceases to discuss the site itself, and starts discussing the same old alleged proclivities of the some of its members, or the state of the UK political landscape has at that point run it's course.
Hence locked.
We have threads where we've setup a place to have those "discussions/debates". But it's tedious to see them on EVERY thread...no matter the topic the thread starts with.
But...this isn't your own private little fiefdom.
There's a desire to keep the site going....which means encouraging new members.
Which means having topics that when updated, are updated about the topic, not some pathetic little clique. It's difficult to attract new members...and even harder to get new members to join when a thread about a given topic ceases to be about that topic, and reverts to either being about Race within the UK, or allegations thrown about against forum members.
A small number of us have worked very very hard to get the viable from a technology perspective. None of us asked to be 'in charge'. Just members that didn't want the site to die. But everyone who used to be involved i t ehrbunning of this site is seemingly totally over trying to moderate the relentless monotony of the bickering and arguments.
It's not myself that will kill this site. Or those who try and moderate it in the absence of moderators. It's the same few posters who want to turn every single thread into the same old tired, repeating argument.
We get it. Some of you don't like each other
Some of you are on opposite sides of the UK multicultural debate and feel very strongly about it.
Can we not use EVERY thread to emphasise those two things over and over?
