If you want Women's football to grow, women have to watch it, viewing figures for the Women's Super League are down 35% year on year.

So if women can't be arsed to support it, you can't expect men to.

Of course the mens  game attracts the same levels of hysteria from those who don't care about it at any other time. I'll gladly bring this up next year when the world cup starts, it'll be the same characters all over again.
I just don't understand why on earth it would bother you

In the game where they missed all the penalties, I didn't see it, but one of the fanboys on here said something along the lines of, or in so many words, the standard is so shit, it makes it compelling to watch.

I can't remember who it was, but a ringing endorsement, so I tuned in yesterday for 10 minutes. I get the sentiment, but blimey crikey. Begs the question, why is everyone so pumped for this, and not say, the Netball? We're good at that aren't we? Can't imagine entertainment wise there is much in it, in fact, after what I saw yesterday, I reckon I'd choose to watch the Netball.

Still, a congrats from me, which I'm sure they will be thrilled about.

29k average is excellent, that beats Bournemouth men's Premier League team.

That should boost attendances & interest
Presume we would be unable to do that as understood we are restricted as to the number of games we can host at London Stadium
Think that was the reason we couldn’t host a testimonial for Aaron Cresswell

Lots of talk about the women’s superiority at pens compared to the men
Scored 3 out of 7 to beat Sweden & 3 out of 5 last night
The pen v Italy was also saved & scored on the rebound
Am sure the men will be delighted to get through knockouts next summer scoring 6 out of 13
We recently did have a public dispute about this, we can't secure the stadium for ONE single women's superleague match because the stadium owners won't negotiate the setup. It's odd because they would do if we went on a cup run. I was surprised to see David Sullivan publicly speaking about his disappointment, saying that their obstinate stance hinders the development of our women's team although we have to remember he's giving his son a million quid a year just to enter it.

However, I'm not so sure playing in The Emirates or the London Stadium is good for growing the game. You might attract a few people based on the opportunity to attend a game at the famous stadium, but the atmosphere suffers because a small percentage of capacity is used and the noise of a few thousand children really rattles around in there. Playing at Dagenham or Orient where they can fill the place up and generate an atmosphere is what would get people returning for another experience.
In all fairness, Arsenal do get good numbers when their women's team plays at the Emirates. (Its them who will be playing all their games there now) For my sins I don't live too far away from there. They average 29k and have sold it out before.

But it's fine. It's nice when everyone is brought together by sport and everyone is buzzing about it Yeah you have to suffer a few conversations with people who claim they are experts after watching three games (indeed I had an argument with a drunken woman just after the Euros final who thought Southgate was the best manager ever and we should keep him because he's 'nice') but the fun aspects far outweigh the occasional fuckwittery and I'm quite happy to not feel the need to pick them up on their stupidity or ignorance most of the time.

I'd rather be in a room full of people who know fuck all about football rabidly shouting at the telly during a world cup final than the only one watching it while everyone else ignores it. The beauty of live sport is that it captivates people better than any scripted drama. I want other people to feel what I do when I'm watching and join in, because it can be amazing.

Yup totally. I think the England men's team is the exception to the rule rather than the England women's team. Most would struggle to name almost any GB medal winners after an olympics, any rugby players after a world cup, any cricketers after a world cup, any tennis players after wimbledon etc. l even think a lot of casual fans knowledge of the England men's team probably stops after Harry Kane, John (yes, intentional) Bellingham, Cole Palmer and they'd be stumped to name many more.

I'm just Enjoying England winning.

I hate all this comparing with men’s football. It doesn’t do anyone any favours. It is a great achievement by the women and great for women’s football in this country. Compared with the previous 40 years of English men’s football, the men have also done great in the last seven years.

Just enjoy the victory without putting down the men’s team.

Not a fan but not a fan of a lot of modern day sport to be fair, including football.  My interest seems to be just West Ham these days. Long gone are the days when I think a Man Utd v Arsenal could be a bit spicy so worth a watch on Sky, regular MOTD viewings are a thing of the past and I generally forget most England games are on bar the tournaments.  What I did notice about this though is only a small handful of teams could really win the thing and heard that a lot of the foreign players seem to play for clubs over here so wasn't a surprise England won again.  There wasn't a Croatia for instance who would upset things like in the mens game.  Re the claims that the women should earn the same as the men, maybe a charity game, full blooded, England Men v England Women may sort out the argument once and for all. At least the penalty shooutout would be interesting!

I'd slao be willing to bet that many of those jubilant celebrating would struggle to name 3 of the winning team from last night. I think that's the hysteria Mad Dog was aiming at.
But isn't that exactly the same when the England mens team advance towards the later stages of any tournament? I see supermarkets full.of patriotic shit, flags and bunting everywhere and pubs full of girls who couldnt name a player with their faces painted. Is that Ok? If not then its not a gender thing, is it?

OK, maybe that was stringing it so I'll put it this way.
I'd bet that you could name maybe 50% of The Essex starting 11 or you know 5 of the top ten male tennis players on the circuit.

Who cares? People are having a good time because of it. There is precious little good feeling going round at the moment. If it puts a smile on everyone’s face then I couldn’t give a shit if they would pass some sort of exam about it. Why is it a bad thing?
