They really are jolly good.

I've always thought I ought to like them more than I do, but for years every poster or advert for them mentioned some line or quote calling them 'the new Pink Floyd', which frankly irritated me.

I don't know if they are still attempting to brand themselves this way?
All that “is this the new Pink Floyd” stuff was largely down to how the record label Classic Rock Productions was marketing them.  That was over twenty years ago.  They have done some great albums over the years. My personal favourites are Passengers, The Last Bright Light, For All We Shared and Heart Full of Sky.  The compilation of re-recorded tracks Catch the Spirit is also worth seeking out.   They are still churning out good albums, although it has to be said that they’ve never been quite so good since Heather Findlay left in about 2011
Cheers for that. Most things I am aware of happened at least 20 years ago! 😁I'll give them another try if they have been allowed to be 'their own band' now.

I think I had/have a similar probem with early Marillion when they were blatantly trying to be Genesis Mk2. Much prefer the post-Fish band that soon found their own identity.

Here's their version of Blockbuster by the Sweet:

I had to go to a short meeting in Macclesfield just the once, probably about 15/20 years ago.

Has to qualify as the longest and most annoying journey there and back (via Manchester airport) ever, for the most pointless meeting, and there are quite a few contenders believe me!

Anyway, as you were...
