Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

Class finish, but also Fernandes started that in his own half, saw the space and directed the ball to the right hand side, and made a run to the box to finish it off. Impressive.

Didn't Saints hold out for £50m+ for Lavia a couple of seasons ago - and Lavia was younger and had played fewer games for them than Fernandes has? Think we're going go have to pay up IF Potter and co think Fernandes is the midfielder to build everything around.

So, the usual practice gobbling up Salthouse's shit greedily and asking for more hasn't helped a jot when it comes to getting one of his players who is actually any good. Hope Sullivan wakes up a little bit.

Yeah, BEFORE he signed, I was refusing to believe it would happen, because I thought it was a shocking deal for us.

When he signed, I said on here what a shocking, shit signing it was for us. Hence saying to Jaan that we all moaned about that signing when it happened.

What is it you're failing to understand? I didn't have you down as being this thick?

I'm not lying.  It was how it came across to me, that you were trying to be positive and trying to calm everyone when they were losing their shit over Wilson joining.  Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick about everything you posted about the potential deal below?

"I'm calling bollocks on that. Him and Wilson might end up signing, but to say the deals are done is horse shit, so I'll leave being pissed off about it until it actually happens."

"I just can't let myself believe, given what has gone on  in the last couple of years, that he'll be thick enough to sign Wilson.

Won't happen. Can't happen."

The Mail is reporting that Brighton are willing to loan out the midfielder Facundo Buonanotte and that we are in for him.

Supposedly they’d scouted this Muckau & if Saturday was an audition he passed & according to reports (I didn’t watch) 20m Euros is a no brainer
Dont know the other Lille player but presumably gettable from a French club

Fernandes I’d go higher to maybe 35 or 40 with add ons but not 50 or 60
El Khannous of Leicester I believe has a buyout around 20 which expires this week. Newcastle sniffing around I read

Mate of mine is a Saints fan. Said he came on and changed the game for them at the weekend. Much bigger chance of them going up if he stays. Can’t see them accepting less than 40m.

Did say they have to trim the squad. Would rather they sold dibling for big money rather than Fernandes.

Excess 40m sounds a bit bonkers. surely better value out there but that would require a decent scouting network.

If we can get him for £35m, I wouldn’t be unhappy. I thought £30m was a reasonable offer, but I don’t know if we actually offered that much and how mach of it was performance based, so it could be the structure of the deal that was the issue.

He doesn’t look purely a ball playing midfielder to me. He looks like he can do it all.

I’m not saying we should pay £50m but I equally don’t think we should sign the wrong player just because they are available at £25-30m. If the deal can be done at £35m, and it’s who the manager really wants, I think it’s probably worth the extra £5m gamble.

He’s 21, POTY in his first season in the Premier League. There is a real chance of a lofty ceiling if he is as good as those that watch him have said. It’s incredibly lazy to say “yeah but they were shit”. Was Joe Cole not worth signing when we went down? Or Parker the next time?

Hypothetically, if he moves in a few years for north of £60m, people are going to say “we could have had him for £35m, another fuck up” much like they are with Etikite, who incidentally was generally deemed a flop on his immediate move from Reims to PSG, until he recovered his rep at Frankfurt.

£50m is not the right value fwiw, but I think that’s posturing. He’ll go for less than that.

Agree Russ, the Lille bloke looked powerful and runs for fun in possession and out of possession, covering and pressing at speed. Thats what we really miss since Rice left. 2 players like that and it would potentially transform us as a team.

I would prioritise the no 17 from Lille too in other words. Get him in asap and pay the 20 million assuming we know that game against us was not a one off of course 😆

Just my two penneth FWIW.....

I am not sure Fernandes should be our target. We have Paqueta and so a ball playing midfielder is not a priority. For me, our priority should be Makua who is powerful and dynamic. And available for £15m. Our engine is what needs an upgrade.

If I was Potter, I would be saying to Sulli please just go out today and secure Makua and Geuye and we will be pretty much sorted and could actually turn out quite an impressive first eleven.

We ain't paying anything like £50mil for him, but anything around £35mil would seem like good business

Paying 35m+ for a player that was available for 15m the season before isn’t good business.
Why? If he has 2 or 3 good seasons with us and then we sell him for £60m, that is good business.

“Most important of all hes a very good player. But hes not worth £50m yet. Hes skilful and more powerful then he looks, and he holds off players well. Great balance and excellent left foot. Hes creative, but usually from deep positions and thats why he sometimes doesn’t dominate games. You need to get him closer to the box. Last season, he tended to drop deep and play in front of our back line, picking up the ball from crap defenders because he was the only midfielder capable of beating the press. His passing is good, but he gives it away and will get better. But if hes going to play for a top ten Premier League team he needs to play at a higher speed than we did last season. We were utter shite last year and he was often our only good player. He sometimes got overwhelmed but because we had nobody apart from Tyler. Hes young and he can’t carry a team on his own. We didn’t help him. We’d be fucked if we lost him but it will give Still money to build a team. But hes far too good for the championship. He deserves to play better teams.Hes not a finished player He’s young give him time and he will turn into a force. But he needs to decide if he’s a more attacking or deep lying midfielder. At the moment he tries to do everything and gets caught out.If you sign him, we’ll be shite until we sign other players and you lot will be better. He feels like a Potter player more than Souceck. And he’s got to be better than Rodrigues who I know you hate!!!

We don't want Ward-Prowse back. He should stick to golf these days!!!"
Cheers for that.

I think we are going to get shafted over this. As your pal said, he is their best player, so they aint gonna let him go for £30m (which is probably what his actual value is). We need to be careful here that we don't pay for what he could be valued at in a few years. Personally, from what I have seen of him, I thought our early bid of £30m was pretty solid. Would be interesting to know what Soton's value is.
