"Foolish decision to start him in the cup! The injuries to him, Bowen and Antonio are bad enough, but it also means we're probably stuck with Ings & Benrahma until at least the summer now."

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
For years we've coated managers for not taking cups seriously and I reckon that's what moyes will use as defence. But given that he pulled up vs Arsenal there was enough to make the argument to rest him. Moot point now unfortunately
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
"RichyP, it was a surprise to see him in the starting line up against Bristol City. You have to imagine that all the proper tests were done. Even so, he could have easily just sat that one out."
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
"Pagey 5:12 Wed Jan 10 I’m not sure the Paqueta injury falls under the heading of bad luck. Pulling up in the warm up against Arsenal is bad luck but making a decision to start him was not bad luck and then when he only lasted 33mins of that game, making a decision to start him against Bristol was also not bad luck. Sometimes you make your own bad luck by making crap decisions. I’m not blaming Moyes but someone is accountable for Paqueta starting in both games when he clearly shouldn’t have. That could be Moyes, the medical staff or the player himself. He is such an important player for us he shouldn’t have been anywhere near the starting line up against Bristol so soon after only lasting 33 mins of a game. Especially as Kudus is away and we don’t have another league game until the 21st Jan."

"Guirassy is another AFCON casualty, though. Don't mind having 1 of your main attackers going there once every couple of years, but not 2."
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Didn't Guirassy pick up an injury training with Guinea pre-Afcons?

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
"I think our hands are tied regarding non-homegrown players in the squad. Someone with way more time and effort can check if that's right. If our hands aren't tied, then I'd be going balls in for Guirassy if he's available for £15m."
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
"Ridiculous bad luck for us to have Paqueta, Bowen and Kudus all missing for the next 4-8 weeks through injury and international duty. Especially as all three were really clicking together. Even Antonio being out impacts our options. Not really sure what the answer is. In Benrahma, Fornals, Cornet and Ings, we should have enough to get by, but they’re just not good enough to do anything meaningful. They’re all decent players on their day, but they’ve all gone backwards over the last couple of years. Probably partly down to them, but mainly down to management."

"LT, we historically leave transfers to the very last minute, Sullivan doesn't like paying them any sooner !"

"We will miss the absentees however I think that the likes of Benrahma, Fornals, Mubama and Ings are capable of spearheading us towards victories in put upcoming games beginning at Ashton Gate."
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Thx for confirming that Violator Certainly no one to be blamed then. Fair enough that should keep everyone happy because trying is all that matters and besides we’re in some form or another skint apparently ? We didn’t spend all the Rice / summer transfer money and got a few off the books and pack the stadium most weeks but Sullivan’s habit of putting cash in the freezer has backfired yet again.
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Seems Spurs also moving quickly for some geezer at Genoa and all expected to be tied up this week. Genoa say this means West Hams bid for Gundmunssen is a non starter now. Seems they move decisively and already have deals in place. We hate Levy with a passion but he certainly makes money available when needed and does not write off hundreds of millions in transfer dealings. Sullivan has turned that into an art form he’s so good at it. Suppose it was a matter of time until Steidtens image / reputation fell apart ;-)

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
"Starting to feel a little envious of tottenham with them getting Werner on loan with a clause of £15m to buy. They were fairly quick to move after Son left for the Asia Cup. We'll be leaving things to the last hour on the last day, I'd imagine."
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
"Paqueta estimated to be out 6 weeks is the latest. So can write him off for Jan and Feb. Kudus back in Feb and Bowen probably out 2 - 4 weeks so back in early to mid Feb. Stavros we don’t know but hopefully not more than a week or two? Aguerd back mid Feb or earlier depending on Morroco progress. Antonio back in 6 weeks so not until March almost. What games we got in Jan / Feb? FA cup 3rd, 4th and 5th round if all went well? Europa last 16 qualifier, 6 or 7 league games. Hmmm… it would suggest without reinforcements our season maybe at a pivotal point ?"

"HITC 22-goal striker ‘ready’ as he opens door to West Ham or Crystal Palace transfer Vangelis Pavlidis believes he is ready for ‘the next step’ with Premier League trio West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Fulham keen on the AZ Alkmaar striker. HITC Football understands that, after sending scouts to watch the Greek international in action over the last two months, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Fulham have installed Vangelis Pavlidis among their array of potential January signings. And who can blame them for being impressed? The skilful striker has been in stunning form this season, after all. He has already matched his tally of 22 goals from 2022/23, despite playing only 29 matches in all competitions. And after spending the last six years in the Netherlands – joining Willem II from Borussia Dortmund in 2018 – Pavlidis may feel as if he is approaching ‘big fish in a small pond’ territory. West Ham United in Vangelis Pavlidis race “Are there things going on (regarding a transfer)? I don’t talk about that now, I prefer to keep that to myself,” Pavlidis tells De Telegraaf. “It is clear that I am physically and technically ready to take the next step.” Pavlidis does, however, have doubts about whether now is ‘the right time’ to leave AZ, without the benefits of a full pre-season at his next club. “The transfer window in the winter is, of course, different than in the summer,” adds the 25-year-old, one of the most stylish and technically gifted forwards around. “It is more difficult in several ways. That is why I don’t know whether this is the right time. “Everyone knows that I wanted to take the next step last summer. In the end it was not the right time, because a suitable club did not present itself. I am very happy at AZ. “If nothing comes, I will just continue with what I did in the first six months of the season. I want to continue to provide goals and assists and help win games. I am very motivated to be (the Eredivisie’s) top scorer, to play with AZ for a place in the Champions League, and to strive for success in the cup.” Hammers want Danny Ings gone HITC Football has been informed that West Ham are hoping to move on Danny Ings this month, his departure potentially opening the door for Pavlidis to take his place. That, however, is easier said than done. Ings’ eye-watering wages are proving to be substantial stumbling block. “There is a lot of interest in Vangelis,” AZ technical director Max Huiberts explains to Voetbal International. “He is now at a level that he is interesting for all leagues in Europe. “But he understands that, if he continues like this, the choice for him will be much wider in the summer.”"
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
"Sport Witness West Ham make move for exciting player – 10 goals, 3 assists, among ‘best in his role’ this season Two months ago, Calciomercato.it reported West Ham United were keen on signing Genoa star Albert Gu??mundsson and ready to meet the Serie A side’s €20m request to sign him in the winter market. Fast forward to January and Gianluca Di Marzio now provides the latest on West Ham’s efforts to try and sign the 26-year-old this month. Gu??mundsson’s preferred position is on the wing, but he has been used mainly behind the striker this season, scoring 10 goals and registering three assists from 19 games. His impressive performances have caught the Hammers’ attention and the report states they have ‘made a move’ to secure his services in January. The report doesn’t provide any clarity on whether David Moyes’ side have tabled an offer for the Iceland international. However, they do state the Italian club have ‘rejected every attempt’ made by the UEFA Conference League winners to sign the attacker. Gu??mundsson is his side’s top scorer this season and has been among the ‘best in his role’ in Serie A. Therefore, Genoa aren’t willing to part ways with the player and have blocked West Ham’s attempt to secure his services. The Hammers will have to try harder."

Re: January Transfer Window
Us not prospering for a couple of months possibly more if they do have to come back after a couple of months to get fit again will mean our season would be fucked.

"exile - I know he's at the fucking AFCON, but the point is he doesn't have a serious injury? And where have I said we will prosper? I said I don't think the season is fucked, hardly the same thing is it."
