Always felt he was our only outlet after Arnie and was properly targeted in that second season and he bottled it. However I would be interested in what balance he could provide to Bowen & Kudus this time. But like others have said he doesn’t seem to be a Moyes player.

Odd one for sure. It appeared that Moyes didn’t fancy him from day 1. I always think the criticism of him is a little unfair. First season he was our best attacking outlet and his numbers were decent. Second season his form went the way of the entire team thanks to Pellegrini’s persistence with Roberto.

I thought the Anderson links were a bit of a joke when i first saw them but seems a few outlets are running with it? Either it's a massive piss take or one of the weirdest transfers we have ever done if it comes to pass. I suppose his sell on clause will reduce the cost though....LOL

The difference is financial accounting v management accounting. Maguires info is looking at past performance and a set of accounts which are a year out of date. The club are budgeting to deliver this year set of accounts.

"Sydney - this bloke is recognised as an expert on football finances, what motive would he have for lying about club finances? It’s ridiculous that the UEFA and PL regulations don’t align.

"""Selling Rice saved minimal wages comparatively (prob akin to what Alvarez is on) and saved no amortisation."" True, but Rice's sale, will give a one year only (this season) benefit to the UEFA ""squad cost ratio,"" number, as you are allowed to deduct profit on disposal of players' registrations and other transfer income, from the costs."

"It’s the 90% (reducing to 70%) UEFA rule which is prohibiting things. After Declan’s sale there is no risk on profits/cash. Selling Rice saved minimal wages comparatively (prob akin to what Alvarez is on) and saved no amortisation. While Alvarez is clocking up c£7m amortisation a year, similar to JWP and Mavropanos another £3-4m. Based on 2023 numbers that would take us over the limit. Despite a profit of likely close to £80-90m. There has to be some real concerted effort to get the likes of Ings and others off the wage bill. Could make a huge difference. If we don’t qualify for Europe we can spend a shed load bizarrely with no consequences!"

"Not sure what to make of the FFP claims, do you believe the club or the accountants that the club use or some independent? Of course, those who hate the owners will take any opinion that says we don't have any FFP concerns and its Sullivan trousering the money!!! Personally, its probably somewhere in between, we do have funds and can spend but maybe don't want to advertise the fact! But having seen the summer spending im not sure it's that clear cut we have no FFP implications, the Rice money incoming is after all spread out and was an issue for us with FFP hence the delays at the time until Arsenal changed the payment scheme. Can see we need to shift a few out before signing anyone, but Kehrer has gone as have a couple of youngsters so you would think we do have room as it stands for at least 1 decent incoming, more if we shift an Ings and/or Cornet or Benny."

"""I read somewhere that we only have £8m room under FFP. That's why we need to sell before we buy."" Surface, is it possible you read the article a few weeks ago? The 2023 accounts were only published in December and made a huge difference to FFP, on the rolling 3 year averages. 2020 - 2022 (which may have been the FFP years in the article you read), we were on £77 million losses, although fine for the Premier League, that would have been very tight on UEFA FFP rules. 2020 results were a loss of £65 million. which have now dropped out of FFP, but could have been ""in"" the article you read."

"""The board have claimed there is little cash available but Maguire claims finance most certainly should be available. He insists the club has no FFP concerns this January and are in no danger of FFP breaches for the Premier League or UEFA."" I make Maguire right. Our losses for the last 3 years are £34 million (to May 2023). And that's before ""adding back"" such items as youth development and Women's football costs, which don't fall under the Profit Sustainability Rules, for the Premier League. And for the year to May 2024, we will have all the £100 million, Declan profit and the 2021 results drop out of PSR, which was a £23 million loss. UEFA Financial Fair Play rules are a bit tighter. €60 million of losses over 3 years, but another €10 million a year. for those 3 years (total €90 million) for ""particularly virtuous clubs – those who are not subject to other disciplinary measures or to a settlement agreement and are compliant with some financial health indicators."" I believe we would qualify as a ""particularly virtuous club."" UEFA also has a ""squad cost ratio,"" compared to turnover. That's wages, agent costs, annual player amortisation etc. This has to be 70% or lower of turnover, by the 2025/26 season. 90% this season, 80% the season after. We are currently well within this ratio, Our wages (only) to turnover ratio for 2023 was 57%. We may or may not have cash available to spend, but PSR and FFP rules aren't a concern now, or in the short and medium term (as long as we don't get relegated in that time). The deadline for filing PSR returns with the Premier League, for the 2022/23 season is tomorrow, so any clubs in breach, should be known reasonably soon. Wolves and Everton, could be in the frame."

"Seems we must be skint yet again as reports still saying we’ve got to sell one or all of Johnson, Ings, Benrahma and Cornet before we can buy or loan in? Is that squad placings and or cash needed? Anyone have an insight? Sullivan and Co must be leaking these stories to Hughie “I was very, very very drunk” Southon? Might be just to put selling clubs off charging top dollar for players who knows? But looking like we will be facing Bristol in the cup and Sheffield with bare bones :-("
