Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

Window this close season comes in two parts:

Part 1: 1st June to 10th June

He would have been our ready-made linchpin for years to come and our next level signing that would have helped our transition in to the shithole.

Instead what could he only manage to bring in over the course of 2 Summer Windows in that position? Havard fucking Nordtveit and Edmilson Fernandes!

Bilic didn't stand a chance with what he was given when we moved. Fuck I hate Sullivan so much for what he's managed to royally fuck up.

A sad timely reminder..

The only thing shocking about that correspondence, knowing Sullivan, is that it wasn't written in crayon with backwards capital 'R's. The 'threat' at the end would be hilarious if it weren't from the bloke running our club, like he's doing them a favour. (This is what led to the Dildo Brothers comments that marked the end of Bilic isn't it?) Imagine the one to Southampton.

Sully 'Look this is the second time I've had to email you about this. If you don't sell us Fernandes for 32 million instead of 30 ASAP we'll go and get Josh Brownhill on a free.'
Them 'Ok, well fuck off and email Josh Brownhill instead then. Bye.'

I know it's not shared by many, but this is why I think Potter is caught in a similar hopeless situation here. This just feels like that situation repeating itself albeit with a less popular fall guy picking the side from the dregs made available to him.

As much as I don’t like Liverpool maybe we should take a leaf out of there book when it comes to transfers, identity your target, pay up and get them, VVD and Alisson come to mind and raised eyebrows at the fee paid but both have been instrumental in there success, also note they seem to sell players for tidy sums they deem surplus.

Sold a young FB to Bournemouth for 25 mil who hasn’t even played for there first team, read that they have raised 240M in this window, so no wonder they can offer so much for Isak! Mind you looks like the Saudis are not having any of it, about the only club who could afford to do that😂

So he's going to run about like a headless chicken, get booked all the time, then throw his toys out the pram and demand to leave the club after contributing basically nothing of note? :)

Seriously though, I know absolutely fuck all about him so I hope if this isn't just more gaslighting bullshit, that he's good and it's a serious bid. I saw he can play DM or CB so if he's got two legs he'll probably be our best player in both positions. Only played 46 times in the last three seasons but more each season so I assume he's maybe a bit raw and progressing.
He's supposed to be decent and Forest bid for him before but were told a price and didn't come back (18 million euro) apparently we've bid less but a first bid, rejected too apparently
No doubt Sully has gone in there, little chest all puffed up, given it the billy big bollocks Connor McGregor swagger and offered 10 million. Instantly rejected with derision, So next Wednesday he'll go back with 12 and tell them to take it or leave it, get the same response and then moan that it's impossible to buy players for this manager, forgetting he just bid 32 million for someone else. We're getting to the point where even if he's not that good (yet) we are going to have to take a bit of a flier on someone if we're only going to be swimming in the shallow bit of the pool.

I can't wait to see this latest Email offer.

Dear Monaco Board,

Can we borrow one of your players because we have no more money due to PSR.

If you can help, I also promise to send over to your Hotmail account an entire back catalogue of the finest re-mastered Emmanuelle French porn that took me ages to personally convert from Betamax.

Regards

D. SULLIVAN

Ps - Tell your President to give it a rest sending over more migrants - unless there's any good enough to play Defensive Midfield

What is the point of hiring a manager when you know he plays a certain way and then not doing anything to get the players to put the squad in a suitable state to do it?
This is the real issue with Potter and why it was never going to work out. Here you've got a manager whose entire reputation and the reason he stood out is because he produced the type of possession heavy football you normally only see at the richest clubs with the best players. Unfortunately, it's a style of play that relies on fantastic forwards if you want to score and win matches. Even in his best season at Brighton they scored just 42 goals - only 4 teams scored fewer that year. The season de Zerbi took over they scored THIRTY more goals than that.

The point is that we don't have the budget of a Chelsea or the scouting/transfer finesse of a Brighton to make his system even slightly workable. Add to that the fact that without the most skilful players in the world it's a style that's just an utter bore to watch and what you're left with is a team who won't entertain, won't win many matches and most likely won't stay in the league. And spending £50m on a couple of pacy midfielders won't change that even if we get them.
Well this mess is entirely on the stupid brainless fuckwits who employed a manager they knew they had nothing like the means needed to support in order to see any success then, isn't it.

When I think back to the days of the Boleyn Ground holding us back (Source: Lady Brady of Knightsbridge), I can recall us making much better Signings/Appointments than these. I'm losing count of how many Levels we have gone down since the move now, instead of the opposite apparently happening.. Next Level my arse.

Nah, I like Brownhill irrespective of what Sullivan may or may not want me to think, he would be a decent addition in my humble😊
In the context of a second or third midfielder brought in, early in the window alongside two proper young energetic players then I'd have been more than happy with him as well. Not as our only signing, on deadline day, which is seeming more and more likely now after the club gaslighting us all summer.

Will Brownhill by himself improve the midfield? Is it better than nothing? Ever so slightly. Is it enough? Nowhere near. Sullivan all over. Make us feel glad for feeding us shit after promising us chateaubriand. I will refuse to feel any gladness or gratitude if that's what we end up with, even if it makes us marginally less shit. Will I support the player? Absolutely if he gives it his all. This situation isn't his fault and it's a hell of a lot of pressure on his shoulders too.

The embarrassment of everyone knowing we've needed serious reinforcements in midfield all summer combined with a major rebuild and players for the future, and then to come away with a 30 year old freebie from the championship. It's worth noting from an article I just read the teams being mostly talked about are Leicester, Sheffield United and Ipswich as his likely destinations. That is the pool we are fishing in if he's to end up here. With fucking championship sides. I don't know how Sullivan can show his face in the wake of such humiliating circumstances.

We are getting close to panic stations I reckon, don’t be surprised to see Sullivan “take command “ and sign someone left of field that no one has heard of that one of his agent mates recommends, another Wellington could be on there way 😳😂
It's inevitable.

We will get the half truth Sullivan spin quote 'The Manager didn't want to sign anyone' which translated will actually mean 'We failed to get any players he wanted- and to be honest we didn't even really try- and he didn't see the point of signing the second rate shit who aren't even any better than what we already have that I've sourced through my mate.'

So he'll go rogue and sign Brownhill, some awful other shit on a free, and probably someone like Raheem Sterling who we don't even need and will make morale even worse for 180k a week on a four year deal.

El Scorchio" wrote: 22 Aug 2025, 11:51 Yup, I cannot believe even Sullivan has just sat there and done fuck all when it's just become so horrifically stark that this team needs at least four more QUALITY signings that all go straight into and improve the starting XI. 1 CB, 2 CM, 1CF. Even just the midfielders would give us a chance.

Absolutely hung his manager out to dry by giving him the bare minimum again. Well, less than the bare minimum as the bare minimum was at least one midfielder to make this team function.

All correct, but Potter doesn't help himself with his rigid formation and no plan B. If Sullivan is making the deals and Potter is determining the very precise profile of players needed, it's no surprise that we can't make signings that improve the team without one of them suddenly becoming much, much more flexible.
Yup valid, but all we need are pacey box to box midfielders. (or an 8 and a 6 let's say) I don't think he's asking for anything that's particularly difficult or overly expensive to find and other teams are not having any problem finding and buying these players all around us. Without those players everyone can see we need, we are just going to get killed no matter what formation we play. His best bet is to probably just play Moyesball. Pack everyone behind the ball and hope for a chance on the break. If they knew we were headed this way, then why the fuck didn't they just hire one of those managers back in January? What is the point of hiring a manager when you know he plays a certain way and then not doing anything to get the players to put the squad in a suitable state to do it?

My take, and with all this 'silver bullet' stuff and the downbeat nature of everything is that Sullivan has said there's no money to spend. Or at least not enough to sign what we need. We appear to be in such deep deep shit.
