"""City refusing to fund any part of the player’s £165 million wages"" fuck me, City pay some outrageous weekly wages?"
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Sullivan has allegedly done a Korean double deal for left back and right back Kim Lee and Lee Kim. Apparently they'll be a considerable saving on shirt printing.

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
"I realise Hugh has been on the sauce since 10am this morning but this is his update a few mins ago if u believe he has contacts Kalvin Phillips update The manager is a long-time admirer of Phillips and first attempted to snatch him from Leeds United in 2021 before the former Leeds United star chose City. West Ham’s commitment to this deal however, remains in doubt this time around as Claret and Hugh was told has been told it would be a highly expensive operation with City refusing to fund any part of the player’s £165 million wages. According to out main source he remains just one of about 20 players the club is looking at. The will need to see off the advances of European giants like Juventus and Barcelona were the to push ahead with things which right now seem more than unlikely."

"When you take out Alvarez it's not our strongest department imo. The rest can't do what he does so well, I'm not saying Phillips will either just that he's more suited to just sitting in front of the defence clearing up."

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Something I read said Steidten was looking at the S Korean right back Seol Young-woo at the Asian Cup If Man City try and put Phillips in the deal as part exchange for Paqueta I'd want McAtee from yesterday who is on loan from City

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Russ It’s a weird deal. It’s our strongest department these days and we all know Soucek will still start. It stinks of paqueta is off to city in the summer with Phillips moving to us permanently to ease the blow.
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Russ of the BML 5:42 Mon Jan 22 Cheers for the insights Russ Can’t really remember him but sounds like he’s got a few qualities old Vlad hasn’t. If he can pass accurately that will be a big help as it’s always possible to develop physicality whereas technique you usually have to have by the time your in your mid teens The fee quoted sounds good but I suppose we won’t really know until he plays assuming we do get him of course

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Having watched the YouTube clips of Sugawara I would say whilst he he is quick and attacks well his defensive qualities might be suspect in the Prem as he goes to ground a lot when tackling. Also lacks height. Wing back yes fullback?

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
"Sir Alf 3:31 Mon Jan 22 ""Biggest problem position is then right back but suspect that’s for the summer"" It appears Suguwara is the solution to that problem. It's my understanding that he came to our attention from the Europa Conference tie with AZ Alkmaar. Steidten is keen to get him in as a direct replacement to Coufal who will become a squad player. Hence the reason why the club only offered Coufal a one year extension. I started hearing about this kid a week or so ago when I heard we were looking at him. He's athletic and plays more in a wing back role. He's very similar to Coufal when he first arrived at West Ham. Does plenty of attacking. He's valued right now at about £8m which is why Steidten wants to get in quick before other interest increases his price tag. This link will give you an idea of the type of player he is. Looks decent (although everyone does on Youtube highlights). https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=yuki+suguwara+highlights&mid=C0D3B0C21162D755490CC0D3B0C21162D755490C&FORM=VIRE"

"dealcanvey 3:34 Mon Jan 22 100%. Although I do fear that this Phillips deal has an element of ""vanity"" about it."
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
"“Kalvin Phillips is happy to sign for West Ham and will complete his loan switch from Manchester City shortly,” Sun journalist Nixon reports. “Midfielder Phillips has spoken to several clubs about his next short term move and opted for Hammers… “There is no deal in place to make the switch permanent but that could yet be the outcome if Phillips finds his old form.”"
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Agree Fraser Strong on the ball and in the air. He started out as a winger apparently ? His issue like many is passing accuracy but has done well in his last 2 cameo appearances

"I thought that was one of Soucek's better games yesterday. He was certainly involved in the game more than usual, I thought. He still wasn't that good though. He has to scored to justify his inclusion in the side."

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Johnson looked very capable in the Cm position yesterday albeit against poor opposition. Still his ball retention and passing ability is 10 x better than Souceks. Scrap the Phillips signing. Sign a RB and play Johnson as a midfielder from now on.
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
"According to that paragon of truth, the Sun’s Alan Nixon, Phillips is coming in on a very expensive loan. We’ve wasted so much on poor outright purchases in double digit millions that this loan is a no worse but it’s expensive If it happens and we make the Europa or Conference then it’s worthwhile because without Paqueta we will struggle. We shall see. Still need a wide left player as my hopes for Cornet are not being fulfilled yet although he might get another chance simply because he scored. Biggest problem position is then right back but suspect that’s for the summer Oh well 9 days left ? We found end up with nowt, it’s happened many times before in Jan"

Also heard from source within the club that the Smith-Rowe enquiry has been point blank blocked and will not go any further. I think we all knew that anyway.

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Rumours / articles I've heard / seen today: Ben Johnson's performance against Sheff Utd may have earnt him a contract extension rather than a transfer with Moyes apparently hugely impressed. Man City and West Ham have agreed a loan deal for Phillips with just the player now left to decide. West Ham have enquired about the availability for Villa striker John Duran (great name). Emery has knocked it back as Duran is cover for Watkins but its said he may be available in the summer. Steidten is at the Asia Cup and has targetted Vietnam and AZ Almaar full back Sugawara who could be available for around £10m euro's. Moyes has recalled Kamarai Swyer from his successful loan spell at Crawley.
