Saw a MAGA women saying you couldn’t compare Kirk’s shooting to school shootings because the former was ‘a tragedy’ because he had family. Not sure what she imagined dead children had.

England and Wales approach. Strict licencing of firearms, whole classes of gun ownership (pistols, assault weapons) banned. 22 gunshot murders in the year to March 2024 (most recent year available).

USA approach. Virtual unfettered access to firearms, firearms homicides in 2023, just under 18,000.

Wonder, which approach works best?

Criminals will always get guns as you describe and innocents will get caught in the crossfire, but nut jobs don't do mass shootings with illegally obtained firearms, in the UK. If guns were so easy to obtain in the UK, don't you think some of the terrorist atrocities with knives and cars, would have been with guns?

Some of the comments and celebrations at Kirks murder is sickening and vile BUT its also coming to light that a lot of disinformation is being spread, some may be coming from China and Russia (see link at bottom) who would love to see some chaos and disorder in America and will use this to fan the flames.

Even some far right wing types are posting stuff to get the masses going, even pretending to be celebrating lefties, multiple and fake accounts only serve to get more attention of fighting the left and as far as im concerned the far right is just as fucked up and dangerous as the far left, so as disgusting and outrageous as this killing is im not jumping the gun that ALL lefties are in celebration mode and hope we see some calm and rational thought before individuals or the US government takes any action.
