It'll be like giving a first class passenger on the Titanic a tea cup and asking them to bale the ship out.
I can truly understand your fear of ID cards as you live mainly in Thailand and still claim benefits here which your not entitled to so they will stop you committing fraud

OK, we all get how much you need (NEED) the government/state/authorities to be acting in your best interests (probably on account that you try and give the impression that you're a model citizen without an extreme view in your repertoire), but that ain't the case - never was and certainly never will be.

We also get how your immediate response is to go for the poster when you don't/won't/can't understand the contents of a post (made by people you already feel should be silenced/cancelled/punished/put down). Your posting history is very clear on that point.

Still, you probably feel that if the government says the only use for these Starmercards is to prevent illegal working (it won't) then that is the truth because it's a government claim, in the same way you feel that giving your money freely to Sullivan is not supporting Sullivan.

Carry on, sunshine. You'll never make the Edinburgh Fringe, but you are certainly amusing.

Australia does, indeed have the right idea. Talking about this a while ago to a couple of Aussies I drink with when back in Thailand.

They say that they've also got a Plan B for those that get through and end up on the mainland - stick them in self-contained settlements at least 2-300km from the nearest urban development and let it be known that the intervening land is populated by crocodiles and aboriginals, and that the aboriginals are cannibalistic hunters.

No need for any form of (expensive) security - the fear of getting hunted down and eaten should they try to make their way back to civilisation keeps them in place until they're called in for processing.

Thin end of the wedge if Labour get this through, I may not live in the UK anymore but this just looks like an excuse to get more control over the population and all that bollocks about stopping illegals is nonsense 🤷‍♂️ they haven’t been able to stop them so far or even put much effort into doing so, what fool would trust them on this idea?

I've been saying for ages that a surefire way to stop the illegals is to stop making it so attractive to come here. I dont so much blame the arrivals, more the politicians who do everything other than give them blow jobs on red carpets when the get here. State that they'll receive no benefits, be housed in warehouse type facilities in the middle of nowhere and they'll kip on camp beds. We'd see a drastic reduction almost overnight.
I'd go even further than that as a deterrent; as soon as they arrive, have them run past the nit nurse on their way to Brize Norton and put on the first available flight out.

Do it under the full glare (and obviously ensuing contempt) of the left-leaning mainstream media.

The details will work their way back through the chain to donor countries soon enough and those desperate to leave their country of birth will have to find the money tree they feel they're entitled to harvest elsewhere.

No issue with managed & controlled immigration whatsoever.

I’ve signed the petition and I remember signing something similar some twenty years ago, I think, when the likes of David Davies was very much against it.

To the gullible the introduction of the compulsory ID verification facility would see the gradual and eventually complete elimination of people working illegally in the UK.

There are already Laws here though sufficient to prevent illegal working with the onus being on the employer to check whether or not an employee is sound. A thorough check of Nail bars, kitchens of, mostly, ethnic restaurants and such as the host of food delivery motorcyclists buzzing our streets would reveal a myriad of illegal workers.

To me this ID system represents and infringement of my personal liberty, my right to go about my day to day life unhindered whilst pursuing activities deemed not illegal. The storing of all this data safely too is another one of my concerns. Also it is concerning that when these IDs are faked, and they will be, the hapless employer will no doubt be brought to boot for not checking thoroughly enough.

You won’t be required to produce it in the street or use to verify your identity in any other website etc.
You can continue to provide your utility bills or passport for those purposes
Presume every employer will be asked to confirm they have sighted the ID

Social media already has all that information & that Zuckerberg bloke with the Harpo Marx hairstyle has already handed that to Trump so he can get you sacked if you were mean about that Christian nut Charles Kirk
The actual digital ID, whether it's an app or a physical piece of plastic is not the real issue here - that's just a shiny bauble to distract the minnows of the world.

The big problem is the data(base) which it needs in order to function. It will be fucking huge! We're talking thousands and thousands of Terabits here, a tad more than is available on your shiny new look-at-me smartphone.

Nowhere in Europe has the capacity to store and manage that amount of data, securely or otherwise. To function it will need to be stored in the USA on a server farm/data centre owned and managed by one of the big, US government licenced IT service companies.

That will mean that, whilst there, it is not covered (except by lip-service) under the UK Data Protection Act. And this means that a UK government department can query that database by proxy through a US based operative - just for testing purposes, like....

You've got to be a right DIVVY to think that they won't be able to get around this and work for UBER and JUST EAT.

Thanks for stepping up to the plate, Sven.
