Super Frankie Lampard

Post northbankboy68 »

I have never understood our fans' loathing of Frank Lampard.  I watched him as a youngster playing for us.  He always gave 100% and performed well while our fans taunted him singing that he was only in the team because of his dad.  Then when the club unceremoniously sacked his dad the fans taunted him because he wanted to leave.  Who could blame him.  He went on to realise his full potential for club and country and now he is performing admirably as a coach for Coventry City who are looking good for promotion.  When he turns up with them at London Stadium, I for one will not be jeering him.  Well played son!

Many moons ago he pestered an old mate of Mrs V asking to take her out, used to turn up at her house in all his flash motors, and was quite put out that she refused his offers.

Let's also not forgot how much he wanted to score that penalty against us in the cup game at Stamford Bridge.

What I like about our fanbase is once someone crosses us we never, ever forget it. We're stubborn belligerent bastards but if you do good by us, we will show you great loyalty and support on the flip side of that.

Ince, Lampard Jr, Defoe will forever be tarnished with the shit stick.

That was around the same time as he started one interview stating he didn’t think about the club anymore, before going on to slag off the fans/club for the next four or five paragraphs.

It was a long time ago so I can't remember exactly what he said, but in an interview in which he detailed why Chelsea was a big improvement on West Ham, he praised his uncle and father for their expertise and in the next paragraph explained how unprofessional the setup was, citing bacon sandwiches in the canteen at West Ham as an example.

In a separate interview he said he still looked out for West Ham results in the hope that we had lost.

And yes, whilst with us, he did carry a bit of weight not conducive to elite athletic performance.

I've got no problem at all with him giving it back. That's what it's all about.

Pretty cuntish and unnecessary really.

If you look at the tit-for-tat element of it, it was all started by a moronic minority of our fans who gave him a load of undeserved stick. Can't really blame him for being a bit pissed off with that. Yes, he overstepped the mark and was a bit unwise and immature in some of what he gave back. But seriously, it has to be time to move on from all of it. I will neither cheer him or boo him.

Yeah, let's all be really kind to each other, stop being so mean, all get along, have no rivals, clap along while opposition fans sing some really nice songs, and sanitise the whole football experience even more.

You fucking melt.

Long after he left West Ham I saw an interview with him. He was asked which club had the best/most vocal fans during a match. He said West Ham and that surprised me. Maybe the whole thing was blown a bit out of proportion when he first left, but I do recall him giving us a bit of needle in the immediate aftermath. Perhaps he reflected on it after the initial events.

Always thought it was ironic that Lampard made a big deal about having to leave West Ham so he could improve and that he made "a dramatic improvement" when he went to Chelsea. And yet, according to him, his Dad and Uncle were brilliant coaches who didn't deserve the sack.

I don't think many fans of West Ham are going to take to a player who's said that he wants our club to lose. Why would they?

Could it be due to the fact that some of our old skool support regarded him as entitled and spoilt because he went to public school?

I enjoyed it when he broke into the team with Rio and the others but what he went on to achieve with Chelsea despite not being the most natural or technically gifted footballer I've ever seen in my time was pretty exceptional to say the least.

I still didn't regard him at the top level playing for the national team - there were better English players and countless foreign players who were able to easily surpass his abilities.

He used to shop at Peter Jones in Sloane Square and I knew a quite a few people who worked there who all said he wasn't exactly the most gracious or polite customer they have ever dealt with. Tony Adams who also lived nearby at some point was the perfect gentlemen by contrast!

Maybe that's it then...some of our support sensed something they couldn't quite put their finger on right from the beginning 🤔

He wasn’t hated by the majority of West Ham fans while he was a player there. He wasn’t getting booed. He left because his uncle and old man got the sack, which also had nothing to do with West Ham fans.

When he left, he decided to bad mouth us. That is when the animosity started.

I couldn’t give a fuck about him now. I’m pretty sure the last couple of times he’s been at the London Stadium as a manager, he’s been mostly ignored. Stop trying to stir up something that isn’t there.

You’re either desperate for attention or just don’t understand my club.

which is it?

nobody ever sung any songs about him only playing because of his dad. Same as the made up story about the away fans cheering when he got injured at Villa park.

I agree. The hatred of Lampard has always been weird and pathetic and in my opinion is one of the many cringe things about our so called hard core supporters. These are the same morons who sing the "how shit must you be, were winning at home/ away"' song.
