Football Super league rumours yet again !!

Post ted fenton »

"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

Wouldn't it be fantastic if UEFA just cancelled the CL this season Would piss myself Then throw the club's out of any future tournament Then the Premier League deduct the 6 clubs points and massively fine them. I can't see the likes of Klopp accepting his club's approach The only one supportive would be that cսnt Mourinho

"even though there's 6 of our lot, its most likely the Spanish cսnt clubs that are mostly behind this. 'Barca' and 'Real' have already ruined the competitiveness of their own league by negotiating their own tv deals that destroy even the merest hint of competition, and still they're financial basket cases. They need it most. Still most amused about the characterization of Chelsea as a big club. Are they fuck....with their shitty 5-10k attendances. Cunts."

"As football began with the formation of the Premier league shouldn't there be a three way play off between Liverpool, Leicester and Blackburn to decide who gets the last two places based on most league titles won?"

This is EXACTLY what happens when you monetise things. It started in the early 90s and has been going on ever since with England leading the way but only really as a reflection on US practices. What the Yanks want is virtual monopolies though. This is the next step. It’s hardly like we’ve done well out if it anyway is it?

"Mad Dog 10:11 Mon Apr 19 Fair enough but I can't get my head around how fans of any club would want this. Some of them were cunting off Neville as well for his rant, hopefully other clubs fans are against it."

"I dunno how you manage to blame the tories. Have you not been watching football since Abramovic took over, and the Arabs at Man City? The absolute wankathon SSN whip up over transfer window monies changing hands? They don't even care who the players are, it's all about money. Chelsea and Manchester City have been labelled as all that is good in the Premier League since the money started rolling in. You make your bed"

"Spurs being called into the super league is like Bananaman being called up to the Avengers. I hope this anger from sports journalists, fans or every club including the shameful 6, pundits et al is harnessed and a full backlash hits. Media boycott on games Sponsors pressured to boycott the whole mess Fans refuse to watch If even one of those things happen it won’t succeed."

"Hats off to Gary Neville for his rant yesterday he hot the nail on the head. All about greed and money but in many ways UEFA have only got themselves to blame. The Champions League has become full of mickey mouse group games. Does anyone watch the CL anymore? Especially the group games unless your club is involved? It's boring and World/Euro qualifying has gone the same way. The FA have no bollocks so won't do anything bar try and pacify the clubs involved, but it certainly would be interesting if they ""big 6"" were kicked out. How long would it take to get this up and running? A year? two? Can't imagine any of the clubs wanting to hang around for a year or two with no income if they were all kicked out of the current Leagues/Tournaments. However if you kick them out what knock on effect would that have on any TV deal for The Premier League without the ""big 6""? It's interesting that the PL is not happy, but I suspect that's how the Football League felt when the PL started all those years ago, again just for the money! I agree with Neville that some sort of independent body should be in there but can't see how that could be created or work. It's all about money and greed, pure and simple."

My take on it - these European super clubs think that they are the reason the CL is so successful so want a bigger share of the dough and don’t want to play as many games against smaller teams. Eventually I reckon uefa will fold & restructure the CL to match their wishes.

Surely the players can refuse to play for a new governing body as they're all registered with others

None of this is the player's doing. Any sanctions need to be against the club owners.
