Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

"Mike, no idea mate - just repeating the article. I just don't see what positive the clubs thought this would bring, I haven't seen or heard anyone think this is an good thing."

"Block 3:01 Mon Apr 19 Why would they even need to take it to court? Just apply the rules they already have - and in the case of the PL, members voted and agreed on as a condition of their membership, and let them take the authorities to court."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
I’d expect they will. They’ll do nothing like what they’ve threatened and just roll over in the end. I’d be amazed if the clubs involved haven’t covered every basis legally for this to happen.

"Just read an article saying if UEFA, FIFA or the PL wish to take this to court, they'd lose."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Mike Ok. But still having two squads, clubs like man City having to decide does Kevin De Bruyne play in the ESL or the Prem. Plus what does the player himself want? World class players like that are in short supply. Especially for 15-20 clubs playing in a european competition who now need two squads to compete on two fronts. No matter how much money they have this will make them all weaker domestically. It is a problem even money cannot solve."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Really looking forward to MNF tonight. Can't stand Carragher but Neville spoke so well last night. Really like that guy. Very unbiased and objective views unlike that red eyed, spitting Scouse c*nt. How he still works for Sky is beyond me but he is going to HAVE to go against Liverpool tonight so will be interesting to see his take on things. The funniest thing about this whole thing is I genuinely couldn't remember who the BIG 6 were!!!!! Arsenal???? Spurs???? Fuck me, Barca must be quaking in their shoes!"

"Romfordboy 2:45 Mon Apr 19 I think the Premier league already has the rules and sanctions in it's war-chest. Whether or not it is prepared - or even anticipated having - to use them against club members it never thought would challenge the rules of the club itself, we will wait and see."

"dealcanvey 2:47 Mon Apr 19 For one of the squads, quality early on doesn't really matter as they've already qualified for Europe next season, anyway. Few ""wayward"" results makes no real difference. Chelsea can just pull all their loan players back."

Spurs and Arsenal not even in the top 4. One is about to appoint 29 year old Ryan Mason as their manager. Looking forward to sitting back and watching this mess unfold.

Mike Two squads in such a short space of time is just not realistic. They will struggle to seriously compete on all fronts.

Downing Street has said it does not rule out clawing back Covid support money from football clubs taking part in the proposed breakaway European Super League.

"Blimey this is apparently starting in august!! Sounds like a huge legal battle is on the horizon, the government and premier league must act... are they really going to be thrown out though!"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"dealcanvey 2:39 Mon Apr 19 The ESL will effectively allow these clubs to hold 2 squads, under different legal entities, both playing under their club brand. There will be no swapping between squads in-season, but there will be no need, as each will be self supporting. ESL money will fund the upgrading of facilities and academies from which the ""domestic squads"" will collaterally benefit."
