Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

"Given that we have just (potentially) been made the biggest London club in the Premier by some considerable margin, does that make us all 'Glory Hunters'?"

"Breaking news: Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin, speaking in a news conference, has promised to ban players who participate in the Super League from playing at the World Cup and European Championship. “The players that will play in the Super League will be banned from playing in the World Cup and Euros. They will not be allowed play for their national teams”. He also says the 12 clubs to have joined the Super League as founding members will be banished from the Champions League. “We will take all the sanctions that we can.”"

We just need to see now whether or not the rules and regulations of the leagues and associations to which these want-away clubs are all signatories are worth the paper on which they are written.

I think you are right... looks like they have signed up to a long term contract Going to be a lot of players unhappy if they miss out on euros because of this On plus side I’m guessing West Ham are in champions league now

"Lee Trundle 3:55 Mon Apr 19 Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !! Agreed, they would have expected this backlash and are well lawyered up and ready I'd imagine."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Looks like we are in the Champions League boys... get around it!!! (Plays the music in the background) I hope the PL / FA boot them out of the whole league or at least the National League... Have fun with that one of all other 14 teams break away One thing if this happens I would actually love is salary caps in a newly worked model

This statement by the ESL Clubs is just unbelievable. (Can't cut and paste it) https://twitter.com/sidlowe/status/1383911808256204802/photo/1

They're far too far down the road on this. I can't see it not happening.

The other 17 Italian clubs meeting later without the 3 breakaway... it’s going to get interesting

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"@whu4eva agreed. I wrote earlier in the thread: There are two courses of action here: 1) Supporters of all clubs unite to fight the ESL or the closed shop changes to the Champions League. I suspect this will fail because fans in the ground buying tickets and merchandise are small fry compared to television rights and global audiences. As someone once said during the start of the raging battle between us and GSB, they don't see supporters as anything more than a backdrop, and that is true now more than ever. 2) Let them have their corporate sport and while we form a Phoenix league. We've had it with clubs reforming in the face of mismanagement and liquidation and franchising, so why not create our own league systems with our own Pheonix fan-owned clubs? AFC West Ham, cheap tickets, fan ownership, 3pm Saturday kick-offs. Sounds good to me."

"The new competition will be run by a few clubs that have decided they dont fancy any consequences for having a bad season. Say what you want about sky money etc, but it never took the actual competition out of the game."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Gary Neville was probably one of the only top players of his generation who never had an agent, so maybe he's not all about the money. (Or perhaps he was too tight to give away 10% of his earnings, even if it meant losing money on sponsorship and other deals.)"
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Dan Roan reports: Big clubs from struggling leagues (Spain, Italy) are agitating because their football has produced boring outcomes. All hurting due to COVID. Want control of the competition structure and revenue. According to sources, some of those involved in the ELS call traditional supporters of clubs 'legacy fans' while they are focused instead on the 'fans of the future who want superstar names. ELS insists modelling shows solidarity payments will be boosted (€10bn Euros over 23 seasons.)"

Mr. Burns - haha That's why I'll take anything Gary Neville says with a pinch of salt. He was lucky enough to ride the Premier League wave. I wonder what the pro's of the 80's thought about the Premier League being introduced?
