Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

"Players may have a say in proceedings should their contracts contain a clause that they are only contracted to play in competitions sanctioned by the relevant authorities. Creating a new ""authority"" and adding that to the list may be verbotten, thereby releasing players from any contracts with the Big 6, should this ESL go ahead."

"Darby_ 5:43 Mon Apr 19 Funnily enough Liverpool did try to trademark the name Liverpool a couple of years back. Their case failed though, as would a council trying to do the same thing."

"What is really sad is that these clubs have more consideration for the plastic fan in Asia or America than the man in the street of Liverpool or Manchester. You'll Never Walk Alone, what bollocks."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Sock, it's not about the money for them YET, they have no say in joining this league do they?"
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Nagel - I don’t think people would buy into it I think fans would rebel and it would make the national leagues stronger and there would be breakaway clubs A rule such as... Anyone who trains or ever plays for a ESL team won’t be able to play for their country from junior level will ruin them in the long term No academy prospects, no real fan base and the whole of Europe / the world supporting international football (and hopefully uefa change the nations league)"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Ban the clubs for sure but banning players who are under contract to said clubs, they are stuck between a rock and a hard place, they have no say in the matter either way?"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"I saw an amusing suggestion that local councils can remove the clubs’ right to use their city’s name. So Liverpool city council could force Liverpool to become Mersey FC or something. Live, from Kuala Lumpur, two of the world’s greatest football franchises, Mersey FC vs Red Devils United."

"Romford, yes and this super league will make pots of money out of the upcoming ESL 24 game."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"""We urge everyone to stand tall with us as we do everything in our power to ensure this never ends up in fruition."" the problem with this, and i keep seeing various people saying about stopping it, is that there's a very fine line between this & making concessions to get these clubs to stay. They've shown what they're about, so the conversation now should be about moving on without them...not stopping them from leaving"

"Nagel 5:27 Mon Apr 19 I don't agree. You've got a set of 20 evenly matched teams with access to equal resources/the same player pool playing against each other for eternity. Games are not going to be hum-dinger end-to-end 4-3 thrillers, they are more likely to be dull 0-0 or single goal events as equal quality in each side simply nullifies it's opponent. Fans will turn away in droves in search of some life in a game."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"whu4eva, TV companies will go with whatever brings them most revenue, as will most players. The thing is they could carve this up and sell packages to several different TV companies in each region because it wouldn't just be one or two games per week that was of interest to the neutral, so they could bring in heaps more money without making TV companies pay more than they already do for the CL or PL."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Tom’s hardware - completely agree, there are some sleeping giants down the leagues. I honestly don’t think it would be a loss, I think we might get a bit of our game back, let them go and do their razzle dazzle and the PL can continue. Could Bring Celtic and Rangers down into the PL too. There would still be massive games."
