Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"It won't happen, but this is a genuine opportunity to re-position English/British football. I'm all for fucking the ESL splitters off, banning them from any domestic competition, and replacing them by merging with Scotland's league system. Also, ban their players from international sides. See if they care or not - I don't. Bringing the top four or five Scottish clubs into the top English division (another five or six into the Championship etc), and return safe standing to grounds. Get a proper atmosphere back at football - watch how a half-empty Ashburton Gate gets envious about that. Sure, we'd lose five huge sides plus the Bahamas-based wannabes, but we'd genuinely replace two of those sides with Celtic and Rangers (who would become major financial players in a British league: akin to Liverpool and Arsenal). Proper away days, too. In that situation, what have you lost? You've lost Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea. Fair enough - all big sides with clout. No doubting that. But nobody genuinely cares about Tottenham and we'd have gained two huge clubs with proper fans, plus some other decent-sized PL potentials such as Hibs and Hearts."

"Fraser, not really. If you take the biggest Scottish clubs, the league could reinvent itself and maybe be as good as the Welsh leagues. The truth is, Rangers and Celtic hold the rest of the clubs down, so breaking away might do them a favour. I know in the case of Rangers, after the 2011 vote to demote them, they won't care what happens to the other clubs."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Incorporate the whole of English and Scottish football.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Stenny is my Scottish team, won fuck all though...I think?"
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"If you establish a British league, you'd need to invite Rangers, Celtic, Hearts, Hibs, Dundee, Dundee United, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Inverness just for the away day! Reshuffle the pyramid and some cracking away days against the sweaty teams."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"i just can't see the likes of the big named international starts buying into this, many of them love representing their countries. Could mean a huge change within the transfer markets, those players heading back to the leagues for ""lesser"" clubs so they can maintain their international careers."

"Mike OK mate, I stand corrected, but one thing for sure, it's fast moving I'm waiting for tomorrow's statement and the position leading managers and players adopt"

"I'm all for hoofing the Six but definitely against bringing in the two Sturgeons, they can fuck right off Just re-align the existing top five leagues, by six up"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Crassus 6:27 Mon Apr 19 From my understanding of the rules put ""out there"" so far, the option of staying in their existing national leagues AND playing in a new competition outside one sanctioned by the authorities is not one that is available; it's either/or, not both and that seems the underlying message. Now, if the authorities sanction the new competition - and I'm sure there's a price for that - then the whole paradigm changes"
