Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"This Sky contract is not just one way Sky's whole model is held up by it's football coverage and I am willing to suggest that if this goes through there will still be a sustainable business model for Sky with the residual clubs Another thought, what about transfer of players? Would their signing for ESL sides negate their restriction of trade rights if they were in so doing denying their own return?"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Can you imagine the heap of shit that this will bring in. Game stops every couple of minutea. Substitute coming on to take penalties and then going off again. DEEfensive teams coming on when you have a lead. People dressed as Micky Mouse doing the half time entertainment. which will be about half an hour. Celebrities singing the National anthen with that pathetic warbling sound they do on Xfactor. Referees in black and white striped shirts with baseball caps. Bigger goals to entertain people who don't understand the game. Happy clappy sticks and big polystyrene hands. more penalty shoot outs. FUCK OFF And why are the fourbees in it they win fuck all just like us

Johnson 8:51 Mon Apr 19 That it can't be stopped is really not an issue with me. That they can do this AND still keep their place in the existing national leagues is.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Johnson That is intriguing, I suggested earlier that they would have a top legal team on the case But, that is to ensure their joining it seems and to guarantee it's existence, not to enable their staying in the current system without sanction Fuck 'em then, let them go"

"Nurse Ratched 8:46 Mon Apr 19 I think a fair few of the club chairmen/directors who had a foot in both camps on this have pulled out of the opposition side and firmly lined up behind ESL. My personal view in this is, fine, if you want to play in a new league, off you go, don't let the door hit your arse on the way out. You can't come back, we're not your insurance policy if it all goes pear-shaped; we've got your replacements lined up already."

"""At the moment definitely going ahead, the ESL new breakaway lot have already taken it to court to ensure it can’t be stopped"" FOMB"
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
This is an existential threat to European professional football at least at the top level. You can argue it's a good thing because major reform is definitely needed BUT I doubt very much this will bring about what's needed except unwittingly by bringing down the whole system. This move would fracture TV contracts which everyone ought to know is what's floating all of the clubs. I'm also not sure the super league would make out with such a great contract either (although presumably better then the other leagues). I really don't care that teams would be leaving but I don't think it would be as simple as fucking them off and back to proper football. It's much more likely to be a very slow-moving train wreck that bankrupts many clubs along the way.

"Pl fa eufa and fifa are full of shit, I've no doubt this will happen there will be no punishment and the 6 clubs will continue to play in pl. Governing bodies are gutless cunts that will do nothing"

"William and Kate are getting involved now. Now, more than ever, we must protect the entire football community – from the top level to the grassroots – and the values of competition and fairness at its core. I share the concerns of fans about the proposed Super League and the damage it risks causing to the game we love. W"

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Oldtimer Increased goal size to get higher scores Replacing throw ins with kick ins, to get more goals Replacing two halves with four quarters to get more Ad breaks in Time outs to allow coaches time to talk on field to the teams, to get more ad breaks Sin bins to replace yellow and red cards Kick offs by personalities - not the Upton Park South Bank type of kick off Celebrity commentators (think Beckham) Even more crappy atmospheric music Special teams (a designated penalty taker who can be brought on, so keeping Nobes in business for the next thirty years) Typical American simplification of foreigners - West Ham fans would all be characterized as some sort of Dick Van Dyke character from Mary Poppins. Don’t even go there about how Spurs fans might fare with this..."

"Hang on, is this DEFINITELY going ahead, or just speculation?"
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
PSG apparently given 14 days to decide to join. The kraut clubs have 30 days. German media saying they’ve seen the contracts.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"No doubt after this a lot of real football fans would be hoping that us along with Leicester would qualify for the Champions League thus ""sticking up"" the arse of the so-called big sides. Thus making the idea of tis closed shop is a crappy idea!"
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
I can visualise a scenario whereby the six English clubs concerned go off to their new European super league and meanwhile the EPL replaces them with six teams from the Championship. In addition EUFA forms it’s own European league’s Champions trophy and this is played by domestic league winners only on a knock out basis.
