Football Super league rumours yet again !!

Post ted fenton »

"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

"It’s basically like a pre season tournament, no qualification for it, just games arranged between clubs. No merit in the games whatsoever. If it were played in my back garden I’d draw the curtains"

All supporters have to vote with their wallets on this one. Supporters of all clubs involved should not attend matches or renew season tickets. Also no one should watch any of their live tv games. So yes supporters of other clubs would miss some of their clubs games but it is the only way.

The SPIVS won’t care if we are bottom feeders. If we are never going to lose our place at the table. And that’s the opportunity for the 3 teams yet to be invited.

"Rumour mill gathering pace that Chelsea and City considering a u-turn and ditching the super league, I’d forgive 5 of the clubs if they change their mind, but Spurs should have to start in League 2 again"

"Rbshorty that 300 million is for the founding clubs that might or might not for teams that are added like we would be. How much else is paid hasn’t been disclosed yet has it? Then there might be an issue over the ground lease for the Hotpoint. There was a schedule set up for leagues and cups we might partake in, but this won’t have been allowed for. If we now had money I doubt any changes in the agreement would be cheap plus if we then bought the ground the price will have gone up. Then there would be the investment in the squad. Being in a Super league (no easy games) might suggest an upgrade on Dawson for example. For teams like Man City the new money is cream. For us it would be needed to sort ourselves out financially and upgrade the team. I do give you that some new buyer would almost certainly coming knocking and that has to be Sullivan’s wet dream. But then we’d also be taking the risk in a few years of being the Bangkok Hammers or something like that. So, 100 million to get rid of the debt, one hundred and fifty to upgrade the squad, new training ground, fancy dan manager, sort out the Hotpoint, and we’d still be in the bottom 3 of the new league."

"Lost count of the amount of times this idea has been floated over the decades. Fucking really bad time to float the idea again now with so many clubs facing such financial hardship. Do wish though that if various people in the media are going to bang on about tradition, then they do not keep on about ""6 most successful clubs in England""...Tottenham are NOT one of those, nor close."

Why are Liverpool bothering to qualify for a competition they won’t be in next season?

Give them an ultimatum then kick them out if need be. Yes the Prem would take a massive hit and so would the England footy team but real fans wouldn’t care and football would go on. The teams that were kicked out would have it far worse in the end

"This definitely leads to clubs relocating. If it is a success then it will be a success because the worldwide marketing has been effective. As an international league, they won’t need/want 6 teams in one country."

Jaan Kenbrovin 11:19 Mon Apr 19 Re: Finance If the 14 decide to kick them out they will be significantly worse off in the long run. The PL money is all about the big 6. I don’t think the 14 are willing to take that risk.

zico 11:24 Mon Apr 19 Kremlin level whataboutery and just as irrelevant. This is franchise football writ large. What's to stop Stan Kroenke moving Arsenal to LA or the Glazers moving a rebranded United to Tampa Bay? Mind you the Tampa Bay Red Devils trips off the tounge...
