Football Super league rumours yet again !!

Post ted fenton »

"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

A few clubs in the premiership and a couple of the big 6 have publicly listed companies.. how do you give supporters trusts 50+1 of the club without paying for the shares using public money?

"If UEFA make these teams ineligible for next season's CL, surely the places drop down the league to the highest place eligible teams. It's whether UEFA has the rules/rocks to do this that is all important. Should they do so, then governments can step in, buy the TV rights to the ""new"" CL matches and give them to their respective free-to-air broadcasters."

"Lee Trundle, I'm born and rasied in Grimsby and my workmate does part-time work with marketing with the club - theyve been so inundated with shirt swaps that they've had to put in another order of shirts, someone has even swapped a signed liverpool Champions League final shirt."

Yeah I don’t think that would happen... which is why the 50+1 is a non starter.

"From Spurs forum Not for me. This is our West Ham moment, they moved from Upton Park to Stratford into a soulless bowl that will forever be a giant shithole devoid of history or real football culture no matter what goes on on the pitch. This is our version of it if it goes through."

I mean the gov could just nationalise the teams... which if they go ahead with the 50+1 idea they would probably have to do part of anyway Gov can change laws and regulations... it’s where I think these breakaway teams have Misstepped as I don’t think governments getting involved was in their mind set

If you expunge points against these teams ... West Ham 6 Leicester 16 .... and account for the fact that we play Chelsea while Leicester play Man U Chelsea and Spurs you get the true table. West Ham P21 W15 D4 L2 GD+21 49pts Leicester P22 W12 D4 L6 GD+15 40pts Leeds P22 W13 D0 L9 GD+11 39pts We need 4pts in 5 games presuming Leicester win their 4

"I can’t get my head round this, especially as this may take a while to be sorted one way or the other. With GSB wanting buyers for the club offering £500-£600 million, couldn’t give a shit but I wonder how this may impact their dream of selling at this price, given it’s the only reason they bought the club."

"Rossal, they will be breaking Premier League Rule L9. Except with the prior written approval of the board, during the season a club shall not enter or play its senior men's first team in any competition other than: L.9.1 - The UEFA Champions League; L.9.2 - The UEFA Europa League; L.9.3 - The FA Cup; L.9.4 - The FA Community Shield; L.9.5 - The Football League Cup; or L.9.6 - Competitions sanctioned by the County Association of which it is a member."

The ESL will throw the big 3 leagues a few bones - no europa league but instead you can qualify for one season in the ESL. In theory 7th and 8th from the PL might get a season in the ESL and all the money that comes with it. The 14 will jump at that because they keep their PL money and 8th place could mean a part of the big money.

I like the idea of a transfer embargo. It would mean we keep Rice and Soucek for another season.

"only1billybonds 10:24 Tue Apr 20 They are a (big) draw now - but most, if not all of that attraction is because they play in national leagues and have to earn the right to play in the Champions' League each season. Without that uncertainty - an uncertainty without which a competition becomes a sham, the attraction will quickly diminish."

If todays meeting starts at 9 the 'other 14' should announce that the 6 have an hour to reject the Super League. If they don't there will be a vote at 10am to kick them out of the Premier League effective immediately for gross misconduct. Means we have a day off on Saturday to prepare for our last 5 games ... 9 points clear on top with a game in hand.

"They wont be breaking prem contract as they will still participate in the premier league They are walking away from the champions league, and im guessing there is no long term contract there as you only sign up for 1 season IF you QUALIFY"

"If they can't be kicked out, they should restructure the league to be 5 divisions. The top one being 6 teams only, that can't get relegated. They just have to play each other 6 times each season. And everyone ignores it. The other leagues carry on as normal. Either that or keep it the same and nobody turns up to play them. Ever. And fines are removed for doing so."
