Football Super league rumours yet again !!

Post ted fenton »

"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

"The hitherto dreaded social media is one of the ways forward here The soft underbelly is the perception of the sponsors A concerted and rolling snow ball of boycott and kickback upon the sponsors product and sites would discourage commercial engagement, and be sure, the 'product' needs that more than anything having fucked it's 'legacy support' Turn their 'brand' toxic ....."

"Good thread here: Jim Boardman https://twitter.com/jimboardman/status/1384406418305036289?s=21 The only credible response from FIFA, UEFA, the FA, the Premier League and certain others is to admit that they had already allowed greed to break football, to accept they are not qualified to fix it and to vow to empower those who can. Own up to their own failure and greed. There’s a lot of anger, but I’ve also noticed a lot of apathy, a sense that what’s happened in the last couple of days has just confirmed some people’s worst fears, that the sport they were so passionate about had already gone out of existence."

"That's the way I see it — the european clubs wanting a financial slice of the worldwide appeal of the Premier League, hence why half of the teams so far are English."

They have to fulfil their commitments - especially playing the last two rounds of games - in front of fans.

“ Tottenham Hotspur and the other members of the ‘Big Six’ will be told to leave the Premier League at the end of the season following their decision to join the European Super League. [The Sun” Ideally it would be immediate although they might not have the ability to do that legally. Chucking them out for next season is the next best thing. Let’s go win the league next year.COYI

"Nearly all the discussion around this has focused on what a bunch of evil Bond villains are doing to football. That is a massive mistake and by focusing on trying to compel this owners to act morally instead of in their own financial interests is ultimately going to be ineffective. This thing only succeeds if fans want it. That is the ultimate financial reality. If fans pay to watch it in any form and in big enough numbers, it will succeed. If they won’t, it will fail. Discussion needs to shift from fans being powerless to fans having the ultimate say because that is the reality. How far are all those outraged supporters prepared to go? Far enough to stop putting their hand in their pocket? If so, this crashes in huge debt within a year. I"

If FIFA/UEFA/Premier league say any player that participates in this Super League will be be banned from ever playing in any domestic leagues then the players would be fucked because most of them would have no where to make a living outside those 15 clubs.

"Solid statement from THE EV: via copyLINK COPIED Everton is saddened and disappointed to see proposals of a breakaway league pushed forward by six clubs. Six clubs acting entirely in their own interests. Six clubs tarnishing the reputation of our league and the game. Six clubs choosing to disrespect every other club with whom they sit around the Premier League table. Six clubs taking for granted and even betraying the majority of football supporters across our country and beyond. At this time of national and international crisis - and a defining period for our game - clubs should be working together collaboratively with the ideals of our game and its supporters uppermost. Instead, these clubs have been secretly conspiring to break away from a football pyramid that has served them so well. And in that Pyramid Everton salutes EVERY club, be it Leicester City, Accrington Stanley, Gillingham, Lincoln City, Morecambe, Southend United, Notts County and the rest who have, with their very being, enriched the lives of their supporters throughout the game's history. And vice versa. The self-proclaimed Super Six appear intent on disenfranchising supporters across the game - including their own - by putting the very structure that underpins the game we love under threat. The backlash is understandable and deserved – and has to be listened to. This preposterous arrogance is not wanted anywhere in football outside of the clubs that have drafted this plan. On behalf of everyone associated with Everton, we respectfully ask that the proposals are immediately withdrawn and that the private meetings and subversive practises that have brought our beautiful game to possibly its lowest ever position in terms of trust end now. Finally we would ask the owners, chairmen, and Board members of the six clubs to remember the privileged position they hold – not only as custodians of their clubs but also custodians of the game. The responsibility they carry should be taken seriously. We urge them all to consider what they wish their legacy to be. Everton FC Board of Directors I wonder if our weasels would even dream of coming up with such a thing? Sully is probably more pissed off he didn't get the call."

It was only a year ago Schalke were deemed a richer club than AC or Inter. Money talks.

A european super league losses its credability when you add the worst side from Germany to it surely Its turning into a farce.......it'll end up tits up as the remaining spots will be filled by big clubs who have turned shit and will lap up the money.......the standard of football will be pony

What do we actually think will happen? Will it flop or will everyone cave and let them have their way?

"Romfordboy 10:54 Tue Apr 20 Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !! A few clubs in the premiership and a couple of the big 6 have publicly listed companies.. how do you give supporters trusts 50+1 of the club without paying for the shares using public money? --- The government could just lend the fan groups the money, to be paid back via club profits. If the owners were forced by law to sell, the amount the government loaned the fan groups would effectively determine the price. Even if it never happened, the threat of it would make the likes of the Glazers and Roman nervous enough to abandon the SuperLeague idea. I don't think it will happen, but English football would be so much better if it did."

Anyone looking at this in the terms of the possible benefits to West Ham does not understand the scale of the problem.
