Football Super league rumours yet again !!

Post ted fenton »

"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

"The Premier League have released a statement... The Premier League, alongside The FA, met with clubs today to discuss the immediate implications of the Super League proposal. The 14 clubs at the meeting unanimously and vigorously rejected the plans for the competition. The Premier League is considering all actions available to prevent it from progressing, as well as holding those shareholders involved to account under its rules. The League will continue to work with key stakeholders including fan groups, government, Uefa, The FA, EFL, PFA and LMA to protect the best interests of the game and call on those clubs involved in the proposed competition to cease their involvement immediately. The Premier League would like to thank fans and all stakeholders for the support they have shown this week on this significant issue. The reaction proves just how much our open pyramid and football community means to people."

"RichyP 4:16 Tue Apr 20 Exactly. They can ditch it with a big fanfare as if they are giving up a cornerstone of their structure, when in reality it won't have any impact whatsoever. The 14 minnows and fans around the world will see it as a ""major victory"" and go back to watching Love Island XXVIII."

"It’s still a crock of shit even with relegation The Judas clubs get a £350 million freebie, so that’s £2 billion coming into the transfer market in England, at their sole disposal. All for shitting on the existing structure."

Absolutely Mike. However both the North London teams would be up shit creek. Without a paddle. Seeing their seats at the top table are rapidly disappearing.

Mike Oxsaw 4:12 Tue Apr 20 The no relegation clause in reality will never be needed...the €3.5billion each of the founder clubs receive before a ball has been kicked should guarantee that they will always come above the other 5 clubs which will be allowed to join them each year

It's gone from European Super League to now just Super League. It's pretty obvious they want this to be a global franchise football league.

"Lets be clear, I'm no board apologist and despise the stadium nearly as much as I do Brady, but I like that statement - it is well written, well referenced and above all, unequivocal, meaning there is no way back from that, they are opposed to the entire ethos of the ESL in any guise It would have been far more worrying if it had been less emphatic, it may have implied running with the hounds but with option to chose the hare if beneficial Also, I am encouraged at the belated but ongoing silence from the club, speaking only when required. It was both professionally and technically correct to comment after the meeting"

"RichyP 4:09 Tue Apr 20 Absolutely right. That statement needed only the first two and last two paragraphs. The rest is pure, self-obsessed, fluff."

"Anybody think that if they dumped the ""no relegation"" clause for the founding fathers in a week or two then this will sail through without a whimper?"
