Football Super league rumours yet again !!

Post ted fenton »

"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

"Are Spurs still in, holding on to the coattails of the US-owned clubs? Levy’s gonna be weeping when he realises he’s going to have to pay off the stadium debt the hard way."

"One repercussion of this is that foreign buyers are going to be wary of investing in european soccer clubs now. If magic money machines aren’t going to be allowed to exist the clubs themselves aren’t enormously attractive investments. The Americans when they bought into the PL probably had this sort of Super League in mind. Now it will be interesting to see whether they are prepared to keep investing, even in the existing teams. I also think, that for the time being we’ve seen the end of huge shiny stadiums being built together with cheese rooms."

"Have to laugh. They have squandered all their negotiating power in the reform of European competition. What are they going to do, form their own superleague...... ha ha ha."
