Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Their punishment should be that their games are shown last on MOTD. No more than two minutes each. See how they like it.

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Is there a suggestion that all players in this saga actually knew what was going on from the outset and the big six were given leave to ""test the water"", with back-up statements already prepared by UEFA, the PL and ""little 14"" in the event that it panned out how it did? I'd be fucking fuming if I was in a club and a fellow member showed me and the club rules such disrespect. Not a whimper from ""the authorities"", though."

"Giving them a fine will be pointless. It needs to be points deduction, transfer ban etc. To be a proper deterrent. Nothing will happen of course."

"As their punishment, Spurs should be made to take down their stadium, brick by brick and swap it, brick by brick with ours. And change there name to Cunts FC for two seasons. I'm a fair man"

"El Scorchio not just the managers but I can’t believe that none of the other teams, the PL or the FA were completely blindsided by this. Brady has her contacts for example. There had even been signs of breakaway talk before this happened. Do we really believe this had got this far without someone saying to EPL ‘how would you react if....’"

The responses from UEFA and FIFA will also be interesting (relatively) - they'll both clearly see that this was a power grab from both of them (i.e. a World Super League would've been next). They're both desperate to keep all the power to themselves and they must realise they need to act now or start to see that power erode away.

"Does anyone think that actually at least some players/managers DID know what was going on, and their response was to help give the clubs an easy out when they saw the real world response to the plan?"

"Be interesting to see if the universal outrage of MPs yesterday translates into them supporting penalties for clubs in their areas. Well, relatively."

"Well, Sir Alf, I think those among us - all fans of distorted logic when it comes to Spurs - can only raise at glass and agree to that proposal. Motion carried. Next item..."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Look I am not a vindictive man that hates Spurs with a passion but... I feel it only right that a weighting system also be applied to the fines / points deduction penalties they need to pay seeing as they are so enamored by ""weighting systems"" that allow them to always qualify for competitions as opposed to a meritocracy e Hence Spurs, having the least chance, along with Arsenal, of winning anything and having the largest amount of nerve/arrogance to believe they are one of the Prem's elite clubs, they should be slapped with a multi million fine ( 50 - 100 ) and banned from European competition for 5 years. The others 1 year ban."

As the Big Six obviously want to play against each other I think that wish should be granted. They can do that in the Championship Next year! ( Three of them could do it for another year)
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
It wasn't Luton's fans fault but the club still were docked 30 points in 2008. Should be no different for the bigger clubs. Don't believe the narrative that will be pushed saying not to punish the fans.

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
JPM are going to go very quiet on this. They’ve already got a reputation bloody nose on this and will just want it to go away. They’ll swallow the cost and even pony up for the cardboard boxes those designated as guilty will need to carry their personal belongings from the office. Other sports owners will note the amazing amounts of money that JPM can magic up for stunts like this and wonder whether they should give them a call.
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"It wasn’t the players or fans of the super 6 fault, however those clubs should still be punished. Big fine each and 25 point deduction each will do either now or at the start of next season"

It wasn’t the teams and fans fault... I am of the opinion that the executives and owners of these clubs should be sanctioned and the gov must bring in legislation such as the golden vote. That way these clubs will not do anything like this again... as shown the fans of these clubs stood up and took action.

"Yup- fully agree. I'm not saying a closed system is 'good', just that you CAN make it work with non global sports like the US ones, where every team has a fair chance of winning. But those were set up in that way from their outset and when new teams are admitted, they get all the rights of the established teams plus some concessions to get on a level playing field. You definitely can't try and add a closed 'top layer' with special privileges to certain teams only to an existing sport."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Surely JPM will have some legal questions wanting answering considering they had an agreement in writing that the ESL was going ahead. These 6 clubs must not be allowed to get away scott free

"El Scorchio 2:24 Wed Apr 21 The point is, is that none of the layers of the pyramid in association football are closed - that's what makes it work (so well). Closing off one (the top/most lucrative) fucks it all."
