Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all agree to plan. Five English clubs are among 11 European teams who have signed up to a breakaway Super League in an extraordinary development on the eve of Uefa's announcement of a new Champions League format. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/18/sports/soccer/super-league-united-liverpool-juventus-madrid.html"

"Dandy Lyon 6:25 Mon Apr 26 The media were absolutely fucking livid that they never caught wind of the Argentine pair joining us before it actually happened; massive story and they all missed it. Because THEY missed it, it was all West Ham's fault and they had to put us back in our place."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Interesting the amount of hacks that say it would be fair on fans if clubs get points deduction when it was the owners at fault... many of them the same ones who thought we should be relegated because of Tevez

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Also, don't forget that they willingly agreed to shit on the lesser clubs for 23 years - a whole generation of football fans. I accept that hosting a (Class A) game involving one of these clubs almost certainly guarantees a full stadium, and that playing that game at the ""right"" time maximises TV exposure of both clubs, but the nettle must be grasped and the comparison should be between what extra revenue hosting big six matches every season brings in compared to never getting the chance to play in Europe for the next 23 years. The silence is absolutely deafening."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"I can't accept this nonsense that the fans and players should not be made to suffer as promoted on MOTD. Try telling that to the fans and players of clubs who went into administration, and what did Sheffield Wednesday do to have 12 points deducted (eventually agreed to have 6 points for each of two successive seasons)? Why worry about those at the bottom of the pyramid but defend like hell our 'chums' and the fans we used to play for! I cannot remember such a massive betrayal of football in this country and to take no action against all six clubs which is really going to hurt sends a clear message to those involved that they can always try again. Points must be deducted now and the fine must be very significant, didn't Perez say that each club had to pay a fine of well over £100m to pull out, well that's a good starting point. I am surprised that the other 14 premiership clubs have not called for significant action."

"Not the fan's fault? Ask any of the fans of those 15 teams, had this gone ahead, would they be out there protesting and insisting that their team doesn't take part. They would not. They would all be smugly looking down on the fans of the poor clubs left behind. When you follow a club, you don't get to pick which bits of it are personally relevant - it's a single entity, a complete package and you have to accept the rough of it all with the smooth."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Financial punishments won't bother any of them really. 6 point deductions which means some won't get champs league next year will teach them the only lesson they will learn. Saying its not fans fault is bullshit. Tell that to all the fans of teams who went into administration. Act now. Act hard. And get West Ham in Champs league thank you very much

"From the Mail ‘Boris Johnson's Chief of Staff gave Manchester United's Ed Woodward the impression that ministers would support their Super League plans at a meeting before the scheme was revealed, No. 10 sources claim. Manchester United executive vice chairman Mr Woodward is understood to have met with the PM's Chief of Staff Dan Rosenfield on Wednesday, April 14.’ The idea that everyone was blindsided by the announcement never looked likely. It will be interesting as time passes how many others knew about the breakaway. Interesting that someone at No. 10 read the populace so well as to give this the nod."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"The thing is, how trustworthy is Perez? 15 Club owners trusted him enough, if he is to be believed, to comitt millions of pounds to the project, from which they cannot remove themselves. If this is the case, then UEFA/The PL/The FA should lay it on the line to the Splitter Six and demand that prove that what he says is untrue and they have actually left the project. Otherwise they are, by their own admission, in breach of the rules they, themselves, formulates and signed up to. I can't understand the silence here: surely the authorities realise this can is far too big to kick down the road."

"It needs to be a stand-alone league with no interfaces whatsoever with existing FIFA, UEFA or national FA competitions."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
Is this still going? OK: First FOUR home games at neutral venues and last on Match of the Day at least twice next season. If that's not punishment enough then you're all just vengeful wolves.

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"If, as Perez insists, all ESL clubs are contractually obliged to proceed with the 'competition' then surely the FA or PL are entitled to seek verification of the current legal status. If, in so doing, they confirm what Perez says and clubs cannot produce evidence of legal withdrawal then they will very likely be in breach of their contractual obligations to the PL. The PL/FA needs to proceed with all the alacrity they can muster to ensure punishment is enforced THIS season (being when the whole thing publicly originated). At the very least massive fines (say 50m each) to be paid within 30 days or face immediate expulsion with current season results expunged. Tough, maybe, but it needs to be shown that this misbehaviour is intolerable."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"Reading between the lines I get the impression that Real Madrid have a shit-load of loans payable this year and have been unable to refinance them through the normal channels, so he's come up with this ""wipe the slate clean"" suggestion and sold it to the 14 teams he sees as his European peers (who would obviously not be averse to a bit of slate-wiping themselves). The ferocity of the kick-back has left him totally bewildered and he probably simply cannot understand why the owners of the English clubs just don't tell their fans to fuck off."
Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
"I think it's great that Perez is stamping his feet and saying what he is saying. That's probably why the PL are holding fire at the moment as the more Perez gets shirty surely the ""trust"" between the ESL clubs will dwindle."

Re: Football Super league rumours yet again !!
So is the PL going to ask the breakaway six for legal documentation to show they have cut all ties together with the terms of the original contract? Or is the PL so in bed with the ‘top’ clubs they won’t even ask for that?
