Edson ?Ålvarez Signed
"West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of Mexico international Edson ?Ålvarez. The 25-year-old has joined the Hammers on a permanent contract until June 2028 for an undisclosed fee, after the Club fought off strong competition from other top European clubs to bring him to London Stadium. A strong and versatile midfielder, ?Ålvarez moves to English football from Dutch club Ajax, where he won two Eredivisie titles, and less than a month after winning his second CONCACAF Gold Cup with Mexico. Capped 69 times by his country, ?Ålvarez has extensive European experience with Ajax and is now looking forward to playing Premier League and UEFA Europa League football with West Ham. ‚ÄúI am very happy and very proud to be here,‚Äù said ?Ålvarez, who speaks fluent English after learning the language during his four-year stay in Amsterdam. ‚ÄúBeing here in London and seeing London Stadium, it‚Äôs amazing. I can‚Äôt wait to play here in front of the West Ham fans. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs a hugely sentimental moment for me in my career. To join a club like a West Ham is a dream for me and my family. ‚ÄúThe Premier League is a special league, the best league in the world and I think my style will suit it. I now have a responsibility to West Ham and the West Ham family and I will give absolutely everything for the shirt.‚Äù Manager David Moyes is looking forward to working with a player who ranked first in ball carry distance and second in pass attempts in the Eredivisie last season. ‚ÄúWe‚Äôre really pleased to add Edson to our squad,‚Äù he said. ‚ÄúThe midfield area was one we were especially keen to strengthen this summer ‚Äì and Edson will complement the other options we have in that department. ‚ÄúHe‚Äôs an experienced international player, who has enjoyed great success for both club and country during his career to date. ‚ÄúWe‚Äôre excited about welcoming to West Ham and seeing him play his part in English and European competition for the Club.‚Äù ?Ålvarez will wear the 19 shirt at West Ham United."

Look forward to the ususal Moyes treatment for players from abroad where he breaks them in gentlg for the first two or three months.
Re: Edson ?Ålvarez
"Not sure why everyone seems to think Romano is reliable? Pretty sure he's the one that has reported us having all but done at least 2 deals now (Barnes, Borges?). Is he any more reliable than any of the other hacks?"
Re: Edson ?Ålvarez
I know it is only YouTube but just watched the link below in the thread and he does look like a very similar type player to Rice. Also good at the far post with his head which is probably what swung it with Moyes! Exciting if we don't fuck it up...
Re: Edson ?Ålvarez
"NS - Yes, I read that he was on holiday too.... he is an Ajax player, how can he be on holiday a week before the seasons start across Europe? Typical West Ham, go after the only player not to have done a pre-season!"

Re: Edson ?Ålvarez
"Wait for the press conference. If Moyes says something along the lines of ""We've been tracking him for some time..."" then it's likely not his choice of transfer, however if it's along the lines of ""I've been following him..."" then it probably is his choice and will be playing as early as possible, even if it as a late sub cameo at the first (cup-parading) home game."

"I can't say I know much about him, but it's a good price, he's a good age and he's got some pedigree. Quite a set of ears on him too!"

Re: Edson ?Ålvarez
"As I understand it, he's had no pre-season at all, due to winning the confederations cup with Mexico. So he will need time to bed in and get into shape. Wouldn't expect to see him make more than a cameo appearance until mid-September..."

Good news that Al... generally excited at this lad... good luck to him. lowlife... app' he's cut his hold short so I imagine he's been necking a few Dos Equis's so I'd be very surprised if he's thrown straight in...

"Will need 6 weeks to bed in. Get a run of games then get injured. Come back and find his form in the last 2 months of season. So it shall be written, so it will be done."
Re: Edson ?Ålvarez
"Joking aside, if we do sign him he won’t start against Bournemouth. Moyes is such a prick that he probably wouldn’t start him for a few games. These highly capped international players don’t have enough experience."

Re: Edson ?Ålvarez
I'm not sure Moyes has till December if things carry on as they are. He needs to get any new signings in the team sharpish if he wants to save his job.

Re: Edson ?Ålvarez
"Glad you lot are confident. Given it doesn't seem like we've agreed a fee with Ajax yet, I wont hold my breath. By the way, much better player than what we have in midfield, but if we dont sign any pace we will still be slow in the transition. Good replacement for Soucek, not someone for him to play alongside."
