Edson ?Ålvarez Signed

Post Sydney_Iron »

"West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of Mexico international Edson ?Ålvarez. The 25-year-old has joined the Hammers on a permanent contract until June 2028 for an undisclosed fee, after the Club fought off strong competition from other top European clubs to bring him to London Stadium. A strong and versatile midfielder, ?Ålvarez moves to English football from Dutch club Ajax, where he won two Eredivisie titles, and less than a month after winning his second CONCACAF Gold Cup with Mexico. Capped 69 times by his country, ?Ålvarez has extensive European experience with Ajax and is now looking forward to playing Premier League and UEFA Europa League football with West Ham. ‚ÄúI am very happy and very proud to be here,‚Äù said ?Ålvarez, who speaks fluent English after learning the language during his four-year stay in Amsterdam. ‚ÄúBeing here in London and seeing London Stadium, it‚Äôs amazing. I can‚Äôt wait to play here in front of the West Ham fans. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs a hugely sentimental moment for me in my career. To join a club like a West Ham is a dream for me and my family. ‚ÄúThe Premier League is a special league, the best league in the world and I think my style will suit it. I now have a responsibility to West Ham and the West Ham family and I will give absolutely everything for the shirt.‚Äù Manager David Moyes is looking forward to working with a player who ranked first in ball carry distance and second in pass attempts in the Eredivisie last season. ‚ÄúWe‚Äôre really pleased to add Edson to our squad,‚Äù he said. ‚ÄúThe midfield area was one we were especially keen to strengthen this summer ‚Äì and Edson will complement the other options we have in that department. ‚ÄúHe‚Äôs an experienced international player, who has enjoyed great success for both club and country during his career to date. ‚ÄúWe‚Äôre excited about welcoming to West Ham and seeing him play his part in English and European competition for the Club.‚Äù ?Ålvarez will wear the 19 shirt at West Ham United."

Ludo- this is my fear. If he’s not a Moyes pick which is what it seems like then he’s going to struggle to get proper game time like Scamacca etc. it’s going to be yet another shit show of an embarrassment. He should be on the bench tomorrow for 10-15 at the end of the game. We really need him as quick as possible. The other alternative is another non Moyes pick so fuck knows what happens. Moyes probably wants mctominay and if he gets him Alvarez will be riding the bench all season

"Moyes has said in his press conference that he isn't available for Bournemouth which, as the player had said he was raring to go, translates as I'll pick him in my own good time... See you in October Ed son."

Can he play tomorrow? Not waiting on 'International clearance' or the like? JWP not confirmed yet so guessing it's too late for him.

"Hope things get better for you, Sold0. For what it's worth, I think these players are perfect for Moyes and the way he plays. We're likely to improve our league form with Slabhead and JWP."

Trunds... regarding us I'm still on a high... knew Rice would be off so nothing to get upset there about... if we get these three in for him then for me that's bloody good business in my eyes... then again maybe I should have been sunk to the nuts on the transfer thread with every jack Sir Alf and co moaning constantly since we picked up the cup... I got a lot of fucking proper shit going on in my life at the mo... so for once the football is a nice deflection from reality... and you know what even the coming Moysie hoofball is looking attractive...

Loving the cut of his jib... gonna take a few months to properly bed in but this kid will do just fine for us... with Slaphead and JWP in and hopefully keep the Brazilian car salesman and think it's a pretty decent window...

"So. How many minutes does he get tomorrow, and how quickly does he become the starter? I guess that all depends on how much Moyes wanted him at the club."

Manuel 8:06 Fri Aug 11 Agree with that. I'm sure this will be a great signing. Mexican's nickname him The Machine and at Ajax he was named 'Lion Heart'. So i think one thing we can expect is fight and passion. Alwasy a good place to start with West ham.

"With his pedigree, experience on the world stage, already played in Europe, desire to do well etc, I'm fairly optimistic this will work out well and 33 mil could look like sound business over the next 6 months or so. I don't think he'll be fazed anyway. As tough as old boots, no doubt."
