I never said or suggested anything of the sort Ron. Was just surprised to see what seemed to be hostility between them (More Bowen than Rice I might add). Didn't see how Bowen cut his eye up. Maybe it was that?

"One thing that was very noticeable to me in my position behind one of the goals was that on Sunday we looked capable of holding the ball but Everton looked big, strong and energetic. Last night it completely reversed. We looked big and energetic last night and Arsenal look slight but able to pass the ball like we were on Sunday. What this told me was that merely possession is irrelevant. You need to have strength, energy and to open up the defence. All that said, their goal did show you can pass around a tired defence."

All this talk about possession stats on here of late is a bit dull. I honestly never even use to look out for it until recently after it become a big topic on here. It's what you do with it (possession) that counts.
Re: ‚ö? West Ham v Arsenal - Official Match Thread - Preview
But we only had 28% possession. The experts on this site will tell you we did much better against Everton as we had 64% possession.

"The lack of interaction between Rice and Bowen versus the others I suspect is because they see each other regularly, and only a couple of weeks ago with England. They seem to be good mates. Glad Rice didn’t get the reception he would have liked from the fans, but hoping/thinking Bowen has fallen out with him because he left is a bit silly."

"Brilliant night, spoiled by that cup draw. Absolute cuntish we get dealt with these away draws every fucking year. I'm slowly coming to terms with it being an Asian sponsored cup, they only want the big teams in the final to sell the game to Asia but fuck me at least try and make it less obvious."

That was just a great night for us. That was so typical West Ham. Night's like that make you realise why we are West Ham fans.
Re: ‚ö? West Ham v Arsenal - Official Match Thread - Preview
"Last night has to spell the end for Antonio, Bowen's workrate and pressing from the front allowing to pressure them into mistakes or giving the ball back was superb. Stark contrast to Antonio walking around letting them have all the time in the world to move the ball around. We must have won the ball in their half more last night than the previous 3 defeats combined. That's what we want to see, more intensity off the ball, winning the ball higher up the pitch allowing us to attack easier."

"It will be interesting to see what he does against Brentford, i imagine that Areola would be back but I wouldn’t break up the back 4 from last night. JWP for Alvarez Antonio for Paqueta Give Benrhama the playmaker role and put Bowen down the middle, Kudus right and Antonio left."

"As has been mentioned, our pressing game in the 2nd half was much better and more akin to how we played during lockdown. If we have to stick with Moyes then it's that energy that we all want to see, and if we see that Moyes won't get such a rough ride. I just have little confidence in him, given his perseverance with a system / player that has been ineffectual for the most part, for well over a year."

Thought we looked alot busier without the ball up top. Putting pressure on the oppositions defence helped alleviate the constant pressure our defence has to soak up. Wonder if Moyes will try Bowen and Kudus going forward. It allows him to keep Soucek in the side. Mavranapos also looked solid again. Due a start in the League.

"Kudus and Bowen will cause untold problems against any defence, Paqueta is better slightly deeper in a free role as he has the vision and ability to create and pick passes through to them, you don't want him stuck out wide as you lose so influence from him. Antonio is still an asset, people are quick to forget his performances against Brighton and Chelsea earlier in the season, yes he shouldn't be playing week in week out but he is still a good player to have, Ings doesn't seem to fit and I'd expect him to go in January, also seem Moyes doesn't fancy Cornet."

"'Onsideman, It's a game of opinions though isn't it? And all the better for it Obviously we the fans were nervous that we'd get tonked all through the first half and as we were on a shit run didn't really want to see us further humiliated. I thought 'wrong game, wrong time' expecting us to get smashed but loved the night out unexpectedly. Talking of opinions, here's one from a random Arsenal forum: Over 70% possession Nearly triple the amount of shots west ham had Anyone who didn't watch this game and just looked at stats would think we were Unlucky Stats are funny cos anyone who did watch it would see we were outplayed'"

"Yes I did Two. We were fucking shit in the first half. 2nd half was better. We won at home with 28% possession, 5 shots to their 14. Did you watch it?"
Re: ‚ö? West Ham v Arsenal - Official Match Thread - Preview
"Some really good individual performances, minus Benrhama who is just a complete waste of a shirt. Lucky to not concede in the first half, where they won every header at every corner. Not really sure what happened to Bowens eye, but he was supurb, as was Coufal and Emerson. Paqettas passing was woeful at times. Still, good night and a much better atmosphere than Everton."

"Had a ticket, but after the Everton match couldn't be bothered to put myself through another episode of frustration. Despite the score I felt vindicated after the first half too, as I could only see one winner at full time. 2nd half was much better. I'm pleased with the result but the rub of the green was certainly with us with the OG and Bowens deflected effort. The Bowen / Kudus experiment seemed to work really well, so I fully expect Antonio back up top against Brentford on Saturday. It was Interesting watching Rice at full time. Hugs and chat for all except Bowen. The pair of them barely even looked at each other. Rice seemed to go to say something but Bowen pretty much blanked him and carried on walking."

The biggest difference for me was having players that were defending from the front. It made a stark difference from seeing Antonio stroll around not pressuring any opposition players.

Cam we just take a moment to appreciate how good kudus's control was for his goal. Didn't realise he controlled on the back heel till I got home and watched the highlights.

"had to laugh at that creepy fat arsehole, the moose, crying about the so-called bad treatment towards rice. I saw plenty applauding him, remember this twat was used by gold to slag off fans in the past"
Re: ‚ö? West Ham v Arsenal - Official Match Thread - Preview
"A great night. Fancied us. Won so many tackles, pressed well and gave them no where to go. Ramsdale just standing on the ball for a minute when 1-0 down was funny. Ref was terrible again though. Always get bad ones. Asking Bowen to stand outside the box for a free kick in the box was a new one."

If that's the best we have played then it shows how poor we have been. The players worked really hard but that's the minimum you should expect. A couple of decent finishes but overall a usual defensive and rigid setup against an Arsenal second string. Let's not kid ourselves that we were amazing. Barely in Arsenals half most of the game. Playing this system probably has a 1 in 4 success rate depending on how poor your opponents finishing is and how good yours is.

"Someone or in fact the whole team seemed to have had a rocket up their collective arses, one of the best performances all season. Of course we're not going to outpass a team like Arsenal but what we did do is harry them like a Henry V Chevauch?©e through their ranks and it unsettled them. Special kudos for erm Kudus and Bowen who were superb."
