Putting a pet to sleep
Putting a pet to sleep
"My French Bulldog “Frank” had cancer so I had to take him in and have him put to sleep, they gave him two shots, first put him to sleep the second killed him instantly. I was shocked how quickly he died. A horrible experience, something that had to be done but still feel like shit. Fucking sucks having to do that."

Re: Putting a pet to sleep
"Nutsin, Firstly RIP Frank. Secondly, You were there for him, right until the end, it would have kept him calm and settled and he literally died in his sleep, a millionaires death that it is the owners priviledge to arrange and be part of. Thirdly, Yeah Hollywood has a lot to answer for, death is often quick and totally lacking in drama, the eyes glaze over, they go limp and that is it. This haunted me for years after being with my first dog in my late twenties and it took me a long while to make point 2 my main focus, not what I witnessed. I wish you well mate"

"Horrible thing to have to do but for the best. See far too many people avoiding the inevitable, there’s an elderly lady my way that takes her dog out in a pram, the dogs clearly beyond being making any recovery. Makes it easier when you can hand on heart say the dog had the best possible life you could offer. A shit experience but ……… Don’t get sucked into paying extra for a single personal ashes I know for a fact that in the vast majority it don’t happen. Shocking the depths some cunts will stoop to make a few quid."

Re: Putting a pet to sleep
"Same as alfs, my boxer got to 14, still thought he was 14 months. If anyone had said before about the heartbreak I honestly would have replied that he’s only a dog, I was in bits, the vet was in bits because he had a boxer that he’d had recently put to sleep and ours was the first he’d done after. You’ll be treading gently over where yours used to sleep for a while but you’ll gradually feel less raw. Currently my youngest has a boxer, beautiful big red boy, nearly 2 and thinking of breeding him, wants to give me the puppy and I still don’t think I can do that again. Still, times a healer, was only 20 years ago."

Re: Putting a pet to sleep
Sorry to hear your sad news!! It really is a gut wrench when you have to do this but is the right thing to do. With time you will feel better emotionally. Maybe after some time a new pup or rehoming a dog will help.
Re: Putting a pet to sleep
Went through that with our Boxer. Vet came to the house and I held his paw as he was injected. Dead in seconds. It was best for him though as he could hardly walk.. Army son dug a grave in the garden and he was buried within the hour. Odd that humans still can't be treated with such dignity.

"Are you not pinning this on Hunter Biden? I'm not a pet person, although I had a goldfish once, but appreciate how gutting it is to lose a beloved one. RIP Frankie."

"So sorry to hear that, nutsin. Not looking forward to when our little lady goes."

"It’s the last thing that we want to do, but nobody wants to see a pet suffer. Helping over that rainbow, is a display of affection and love. Always tough, but still the right thing to do."

"Heartbreaking. Sorry for your loss, but you did the best thing! I wish we had done this with one of our cats. It had bowel cancer and we tried desperately to save him with the vets help for 6'weeks. Had chemo weekly, lots of drugs and crap we had to give him. He got really thin and weak and I'm sure suffered, and then died at home whilst we were at work. This was nearly 4 years ago and I still regret it. We've still got 2 cats and a dog, will never do that again!"

"If only we treated terminally Ill people with the same dignity and respect as we do our pets. Sorry about your loss, it’s never easy"
Re: Putting a pet to sleep
Sorry to hear this Nutsin Have been thru the same thing a few times with me dogs :-( Local vets here come to ur house if u want. You hold them as they take care of things. Very peaceful and a tad easier as the dog was in the place she felt safest with her “pack. But always emotionally tough losing a pet and their unconditional love / devotion.
