Misses a sitter inside the first 20 secs.
Looked about as confident as Antonio in a one-on-one situation there.

Re: Jhon Duran
So that's Milenkovic, Onana & Duran we've missed out on when we've practically been in the driving seat to get them over the line.
Potentially the spine of a team for the best part of a decade.
Oh well!

However if the choice was between Duran and spending £27m on Fullkrug and giving him a very expensive contract up until he's 35, then I would have stuck with Duran.
Agree - I would have too.
But correct me if I'm wrong, the Dhuran deal looked dead in the water when we signed Fullkrug and we were probably getting a little desperate?
I still have some hope that Fullkrug isn't a failure but definitely agree that Dhuran is the type of player we should be signing, and not Fullkrug.

Re: Jhon Duran
£40m was a big gamble back then as it was a big chunk of our transfer budget and 99% of people agreed that we should not bend over for Villa with those demands - especially as some of the negotiations also included releasing one of our most talented youth players.
We've been criticized in the past for fixating on a transfer that is never going to happen - I think at the time it was the right thing to do.
Something doesn't add up for me though. Despite scoring 11 goals in all competitions, he's still not starting for Villa.

Re: Jhon Duran
Maybe cause most didn't realise how talented he was, there were a few of us who thought he was worth it.
Oh and if it bothers you why post on it bouncing it up the board again.

Re: Jhon Duran
Is this debate going to crop up every time he scores?
Depsite the fact that Villa were demanding £40m for him and everyone was saying that was too much for an unproven 20 year old?
At the time it was regarded as a good decision by most.

We were linked to this guy for what seemed like forever but I have a sinking feeling that this was another veto from our diminutive, rabid capitalist, leader who has a penchant for communist attire.Nope. Moyes said no in favour of Zouma. Zouma can no longer walk. Milenkovic dominating for Forest.
Which is also evidence that it was time for Moyes to go. He had veto on a lot of targets that have done well elsewhere. Everyone knew Zouma was collosal but when we signed him his knees were buggered but the manager insisted.

Re: Jhon Duran
It's not how we play, we are a hoof it to a big frontman team. Wood is probably a better fit with how we play. We even stuck Soucek forward to try and get knock ons to Bowen in the last game. Bowen is better than Duran but he can't play that role as a single frontman in our system. I like Nunez at Liverpool, think he could mature into a really good player but they are all silly money for players who aren't the finished article.

German Doner Kebab are fuckin' stingy - sure they taste good but even if you order a double portion they still don't get near an old skool kebab shop with a good reputation for quality!
Re: Jhon Duran
We need a player like him who presses from the front, that's what he does.. He also runs in behind, he's a lot more Antonio than any other strikers we signed..
We need to sign one in January that's for sure, doubt we will though.

Re: Jhon Duran
I don't want us to have an Antonio replacement. I want to see a killer in front of goal, a real fox in the box type who's clinical. Hard to come by but they can be found if the recruitments good enough.

Re: Jhon Duran
Totally not fussed we didn't sign him as he isn't an Antonio replacement and would be another striker who gets no service. Are people going to mention it every time he scores a goal? Weird.
