They are making it up as they go along

Its not surprising as ground was broken too early just to push to the project through

£600 a day = six figure salary.

Well, when I say "six figure salary", I mean that the figure six is mentioned...

Any contactors currently holding a contract with HS2 to be working in any areas being delayed will be entitled to payment for staff , plant and equipment from HS2 for the delay period

Keeping down the total cost is absolutely not what they are doing. It is keeping down the yearly spend.
I used to work for the Procurement Executive in the MoD and we had to do that sort of thing every year on projects. It invariably puts the total cost up by dint of inflation alone before you get to things like economy of scale and disrupting the schedule.

Re: HS2 may not run through to central London - report
It'll all get pushed back now until after the GE...

They are saying they are delaying it to help get the costs down? Surely going forwards the costs will increase? It's defo looking like a tactic to take something contentious off the table elading up to 2024...

One of the JV civils contractors for HS2 doing all the interchange work around Birmingham stopped recruiting about 2 weeks so I reckon there will be more "Amendments" to the scope of the project and the completion dates

I 100% agree HS2 should not have happened and the existing network should be renewed

Apparently Phase 1 between Old Oak Common and Birmingham is 40% complete?

Reckon before any of the track is laid Phase 1 will revert to an arterial route stopping at the new towns planned along the route, possibly even to connect just north of Aylesbury as it crosses over the East/West Varsity line currently being reinstated between Oxford and Cambridge.

With respect and love to the OP I dont care about HS2 would prefer it if they got existing services sorted 1st.

(Yes my train back to Ipswich has been cancelled and yes this leaves me in a massive pickle)

I wouldn't put it past this shower of shit that calls itself a government simply installing a bog standard railway onto the already constructed civil works, linking it with the existing network at either end and selling it as a "Glorious new freight route, green enough to take 10 lorries per day off the roads".

Considering how much of a fuck-up HS2 has been what is he actually doing for £600 a day? Genuine question

Re: HS2 may not run through to central London -More delays
Also the proposed new road tunnel linking Essex to Kent has been put back two years due to inflation.
