West Ham leading chase for €30m-rated defensive ace

West Ham certainly appear to have their act together in this summer’s transfer window.

Though some targets have already slipped through their fingers, others have already put pen to paper and it seems that technical director, Tim Steidten, isn’t going to rest until he’s built a squad that Julen Lopetegui is happy with.

According to CaughtOffside sources with knowledge of the Hammers’ transfer plans, Ajax’s 24-year-old defender, Josip Sutalo, is of interest.

West Ham want Josip Sutalo

The Bosnian, who actually represents the Croatian national team, has also been watched by Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion.

It’s understood that West Ham are leading the race because of their recent dealings with the Dutch giants, from whom they signed Edson Alvarez and Mo Kudus.

Both of those players have settled in at the London Stadium wonderfully well, and if they’re able to land Sutalo too, it’ll be a great hat-trick for the East Londoners.

Ajax are seemingly not pushing their man out of the exit door but are understood to value him at somewhere between €25m and €30m.

Fulham are unlikely to do business at that price, though the Hammers and the Seagulls are expected to come in with first offers around the €20m-€23m mark.

From the player’s point of view, Ajax are in the Europa League qualifiers and, if they manage to negotiate them successfully, will have a European campaign to look forward to.

None of West Ham, Brighton or Fulham can offer Sutalo that, though the standard of football domestically week in and week out will be far higher than what he’s used to.

Were the Dutch side to therefore accept any offers for his services, it leaves the defender with quite the conundrum.

West Ham only club to make ‘concrete transfer offer’ – Sale can see Hammers return

Jean-Clair Todibo to West Ham United may not be dead, according to Wednesday’s edition of Nice-Matin.

The Nice local newspaper is reporting on interest in the central defender. It’s claimed that Juventus are thinking about the player, as they look around for potential signings to aid their Serie A title fight.

However, Juventus are said to have ‘very little liquidity’ and made a loan offer on Tuesday. That was laughed out of town, with Nice wanting €40m.

Nice-Matin say the only club to have made a ‘concrete transfer offer’ is West Ham, and they believe the Hammers could return for the Frenchman.

That’s despite them spending big to take Max Kilman from Wolves this month.

West Ham’s offer was €30m plus a further €5m in bonus payments. Not quite enough for Nice, and it’s claimed Julen Lopetegui had even spoken to the player.

When that offer was refused, they quickly turned to Kilman.

Nice-Matin say if one of Nayef Aguerd or Kurt Zouma were to be sold then West Ham could return, and it’s claimed both of those players have been offered to Nice.

Aguerd is of interest but his wages are a barrier at the moment, although discussions appear to be ongoing.

As it stands, Nice-Matin believes ‘London or Turin are the most likely destinations’ this summer.

This very much feels like there’s a deal there to be done, and perhaps even around what West Ham offered in the first place.

I think we've overspent (by quite a lot) also. Careful, as it seems to label you as against anything the club is doing at the moment.

I hope they're planning ahead and it doesn't come back to bite us on the arse next summer with PSR.

I don’t think we will bother with Nelson but even if they are slightly overpriced, Chuck in the Brazilian, KWB and a couple of freebies I know we have our eye on. Sell Aguerd and if we can get anything for ings and cornet and we have massively improved the squad.

Although I think downes will be an outgoing which I would rather not happen.

£100M on Kilman, Duran and Reiss Nelson

Wasn't the summer i had in mind, that's mental spending on not much quality isn't it?

Think you are right Russ a out the fee. Its a lot for one so young and relatively inexperienced.

Im guessing the attraction is that he is another that helps with home grown quota? Or us that not the case as he’s Colombian and not sure how long he’s been registered and what the rules are?

I suppose I’m erring on taking the risk because , as per my aside about my armchair observations, he did look very powerful and sharp, good shot and very physical which means he has a lot of what it takes to make it in the Prem. At 20, he also can be developed.

The foreign based options like Jonathan David, En-Nesyry and others look better value have established track records but in different leagues and that is also a risk. I’m also guessing, with the state Moyes left the squad, we were missing the cornerstones like CBs and a known forward, RB etc which is why we are looking at Walker Peters and Wan Bissaka rather than unknown “pearls”? Im assuming this of course and that the “pearls” can then be added once the less risky, aforementioned cornerstones that Loppy wants, are in place?

Duran is not established or experienced like Walker Peters, Kilman but has shown he can perform in this division albeit in limited appearances.

Im probably clutching at straws of hope to justify paying £10 million over the top but like I say we are paying the price if Moyes legacy and terrible squad management / acquisition policy and preferences. Only Imho of course :-)

Oh right ok. So I question the kids value and you come back with some sarky comment. But those stats I pull up are not out of context. They are his goal scoring stats. End of. And, you now agree that his goal record is not that good and then say its not that good as he has started so few games.

For some reason your throwing Palmer and Shearer into the mix to make up some pointless and stupid argument that also makes no sense.

So, rather than going off on a tangent, is it not just normal to rewind and go back to my original point. £35m to £40m for a kid who has not started a lot of games, has very little PL experience and hasn't scored a lot of goals. Is that not a bit steep to pay for 'potential'?

I am not saying I disagree with the signing, nor that it will be a bad signing. Just debating if its good value when you can get established and experienced strikers for less.

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
The transfer rumours of spotty teenager websites, Talkshite, national rag journos etc. 99% BS and regurgitated “stories”. The Romano bloke seems to be one of the very few that has the contacts and seems this Duran transfer is one of the more likely. Got an attitude because he hardly plays? Understandable I suppose so makes us attractive to him as he sees our 35 year old, “couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo”’, battering ram as the only obstacle to him being picked? :-)

Villa have little choice as oncea player wants out, and a young one with attitude ( makes a noise), pointless keeping him as a disruptive influence.

As mentioned, Arnautovic had a attitude, even PDC. 35 million is a lot for a 20 year old with a fledgling career but my opinion, from a few games I saw him in, is that he is strong, and a real handful and got a decent shot. He will score goals if he gets the service I think and unlike the Moyes era it sounds like we will be in possession a lot more and pushing forward to provide it. Even if he’s not scoring, his physicality will keep CBs and defenders occupied thus making space for others like Bowen and Kudus. Well thats the hope anyway. Of course the whole transfer could collapse in hours but at this point, and based on pure armchair fan observation, Im IN

Watching Canada & this Koné midfielder we've been linked to more than holding his own vs the Argies.
Good energy & physical enough.

Jonathan David pretty quiet tbh

Duran - ooh yeah....how much? Nah.
Nelson - I'd rather have the rotting carcass of Nelson Mandela.
Todibo - dunno, don't sound like he wants to come.
Sorloth - sounds like a fucking Pokemon. Fuck right off.

Where are the PEARLS scarf cunt? Anyone can pick expensive fucking players from around Europe ffs.

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Will say again ... Duran is 20
How old was he when he was scoring goals at these various other clubs?
You are paying for potential and wouldnt be too concerned with what he was doing at 17 or thereabouts

Understand we had a deal with Southampton for Ings at £6m (thats THEM paying us!) but he turned it down
Personally I think we move Ings AND Antonio or if we are keeping Antonio we need a higher level of main striker ... ideally a Toney or Solanke type

Nagel 7:28 Tue Jul 9
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Manuel, yeah, obviously he'd be Antonio's replacement. I was just trying to say that the kid can shoot, unlike Antonio.

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
LT - Apparently Ings is refusing to go to Saints after we accepted 6 mil for him, tbf it's his right if he doesn't want to go there, but not a good situation and also no doubt complicates the Downes/Walker Peters situation further.

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Calm down Russ. Can't see why you're getting so defensive about it. You raised a simple question and I gave a simple answer by bringing up a comparison with Cole Palmer.

Them stats you're putting up about his goal scoring are a bit out of context, seeing as he started so few games. Even if it was more accurate, very few strikers are banging them in as teenagers. It took Shearer 100 games to hit 25 goals and he was playing 90 mins in most of them.

Manuel 7:14 Tue Jul 9
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Nags - Spin it how you want but clearly he will be Antonio's replacement. I'm reading he leads the line well, bit of a beast, pacey and with a good scoring average? 35 mil sounds like a snip in that case.

Lee Trundle 7:09 Tue Jul 9
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
I'll tell you who's he's not at all like.

Ings.

Let's hope the club manage to somehow offload him if we're going for a big guy up top.

Nagel 5:16 Tue Jul 9

No. I don't remember actually commenting about Cole Palmer. So you can presume all you like.

I am normally very positive about most transfers. I am not actually being negative about this one. Just seems a very high sum for a kid who hardly played last season.

So, if you want to dig down, firstly he has had 109 professional games, not the 130 you mentioned. He scored 9 goals in two seasons for Envigado (don't know if that's a decent standard) and then 8 goals in one season for Chicago Fire (which we know is Championship standard). Does that make him established and experienced enough for the PL? Unai Emery didn't think so. But if you do then I will take your word of Unai Emery's.

And so add his 5 goals for Villa, he has scored 22 in 109 which means he scores a goal every 5 games. May be again why he didn't play much for Villa last season. And they want £35m for him.

And I did ask if he was any good. So I don't see why you need to respond in such a cuntish and flippant way.

But as you seem to rate him more than Unai Emery i will go with your wisdom. I am not slating the kid and don't mean to sound negative. Just raised a simple question that it seems alot of money for a player that isn't established in the PL and only has experience in sub standard leagues.

is that ok?

Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
I think he’ll be a good signing, when I’ve seen him he has caused sides problems. Thing is with the attitude claim he comes here he has a ridiculous high chance of being out main man up top so he won’t have much to moan about.

Nagel 7:06 Tue Jul 9
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
From what I've seen he's not much like Antonio at all. His shooting is probably his best quality. Hard to say how prolific he'd be if he started regularly. Last season in the PL he scored 5 goals in 462 mins, which works out at about a goal a game, and 3 of those goals were against Man City & Liverpool. Looks to me like he could score a lot if given the right service.

His "notorious" attitude problems seem to be mainly that he got stroppy on social media about not being played enough.

fraser 6:54 Tue Jul 9
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
900 minutes odd for Villa last season and 7 goals, that's roughly a goal every 1.5 games.. It's not bad at all

Manuel 6:46 Tue Jul 9
Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread
Interesting development, can't say I noticed him at Villa, so an Antonio replacement, i.e a battering ram, leading the line type, not important if he's not prolific?
