Euro 2024
We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is

So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's "same old" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again.

Winners for me:

France, Portugal, Spain

Dark horses:

Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close

Biggest flops:

Scotland - no goals scored

Top goalscorer:

Mbappe

I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?)

consolidation period but could go close

BRANDED - Agreed, it's never really been clear, but I would like to believe that the great man did a great job in his time there developing players etc.

Lest we forget. We have to thank Sir Trevor and his efforts at St Georges Park for the success of England players over the last 10 years or so since he stepped down.

Anon - £300 is juet for what he caught out for, not for all the times he's highly likely to have done it. He'd be a mad man to risk putting in to question his Reffing again on 1 of the biggest stages with millions of eyeballs on him, regardless of a hypothetical one-off sizeable amount now. It just ain't happening and I for one ain't gonna be para about him potentially fixing Wednesdays Euros Semi-Final but others are more than welcome to worry about it.

Massive Attack

He risked his career for a massive bung of....£300 Euros, not sure he's too fussy about his reputation. Adding a couple of zeros and I'm sure he'd be interested.

Interesting he's still banned from the top games in Germany, he's not even allowed to enter the stadiums.

Manuel, no one's "blaming the ref" for anything yet you silly tart, it's a discussion board in case you haven't noticed and it's a valid talking point

There, I fixed it

Re: Euro 2024
I'm not concerned about the bung taking Ref, the world's spotlight is on him so he'll be on his very best behaviour, so I'm sure he'll leave all Wednesday bets to those currently in hiding on Paqueta Island.

I also trust Bellingham to behave himself after getting his knuckles wrapped over his gesture recently. What we will need to be vigilant about is Hollland players purposely targeting Bellingham to see if they can get a bad reaction out of him which he will have to contend with. I'm sure Southgate's made him fully aware before the game Koeman will instruct his players to wind him up and Bellingham will rise above it letting his football do all the talking Wednesday. Our disciplinary in this Tournament avoiding costly red and yellow cards thus far has been excellent and don't see that changing.

Re: Euro 2024
Don't get why the ref's aren't assessed and a league table formed based on their games in the tournament

top 2 get the semi finals

top dog gets the final

not hard is it.......giving a bloke done for corruption a semi final is bit unbelievable. Then you tie in his history with Bellingham, just give it to someone else to avoid any sort of noise over it.

Uefa are thick as shit

Re: Euro 2024
give it a rest about what? they've put a cunt with a conviction of match fixing in charge of our semi final. he was in charge of our QF too against Lyon where he was fucking shit

On The Ball - I have no idea he phoned me last night from work just to let me know he wasn't going to be here when he woke up as had bought a ticket and on a 7.30 am flight to Cologne, I did ask him if he was sure it was real. Said buying from a mate and wouldn't pay him unless he got in.. But communication isn't his thing or listening for that matter.

I'm actually surprised he told me, the little fucker went on holiday last time while me and the Mrs were away and didn't tell his brother who thought he'd gone missing.

So we're hammering the ref today instead of Southgate? Some of you cunts never give it a rest.

Re: Euro 2024
Utterly extraordinary that this ref with his history is getting big games like our Europa semi & THIS semi
Plenty of excellent refs so far in the tournament
Obviously Taylor & Oliver can’t do an England game but neither should be in contention for the semis & final

Re: Euro 2024
H&P,

The EUROs final narrative will be about 'star players' - Mbappe v Kane, Mbappe v Bellingham, Yamal v Bellingham etc.

Do you think they want a Mbappe v Gakpo final?
Asian, African & American markets would struggle to name half a dozen Dutch players.
As long as the England fans don't burn down Dortmund in the pre-match festivities Kane will be leading England onto the Olympiastadion on Sunday evening.

Re: Euro 2024
A Spain vs Holland final will be very interesting from the European history perspective; it might generate a valuable discussion of what manner of political and cultural a beast Europe actually is (the product of an ongoing bourgeois revolution being fought against the old feudal order now so much in ascendant).

Re: Euro 2024
I'd expect that most refs appointed by FIFA, UEFA etc for these tournaments are susceptible to suggestions by the tournament organisers to deliver a desired result.
That applies equally if not more so to the English refs utilised.

Clattenburg was openly corrupt when he officiated.
Webb was dodgy.

Michael Oliver & Anthony Taylor don't get to officiate games at these tournaments because they are paragons of virtue & are incorruptible.

Having an openly dodgy ref isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Isn't it better having an openly corrupt ref favouring you than a secretly dodgy one against you?
Then there is always a chance that UEFA will tell him it doesn't matter which side wins.

UEFA might want a France v England final.
I don't know why UEFA would want the Dutch in the final.

The Netherlands only got to the 2010 WC final because they couldn't stomach a Uruguayan final appearance after Suarez's handball v Ghana in the qtr final.

I reckon England supporters will be grateful the ref was corrupt after the game & the Netherlands fans will be the ones complaining.

this referee is the prick that sent off Cresswell in our Europa League QF against Lyon

Mr Anon 11:11 Tue Jul 9
Re: Euro 2024
So the ref for tomorrows game has previously been done for match fixing, and Bellingham has previously been fined for calling him out in public. how is that not a conflict of interest? how is this man still allowed to ref a semi final in an international tournament.
