West Ham pulled into battle for €20m+ striker – His attitude questioned this week

By Sean Lunt

West Ham United have found themselves pulled into the developing battle for striker Fotis Ioannidis, as several clubs compete for his signature.

Corriere di Bologna cover the player today as the Italian club target a €20m deal for the Panathinaikos striker, who could be a replacement for Joshua Zirkzee.

They’ll need to make the striker the most expensive purchase in the history of the club but have already submitted an €18m bid that includes €2m in very achievable bonuses to take it to €20m.

That’s not enough to tempt the Greek side into a deal, especially given Ipswich Town have already seen a €25m bid rejected earlier this week.

Panathinaikos believe that other clubs will soon enter the bidding for the striker, with West Ham specifically named as a party who are waiting in the wings but could soon move.

They’ve followed the striker closely for months and could now be ready to move as they look to bolster Julen Lopetegui’s squad with the striker that it needs.

They’ll have to match Panathinaikos’ demands for the striker, with the Greek side valuing him at €30m, a price Corriere di Bologna believe nobody will be willing to pay for him.

The Hammers would also be wise to take note of the growing comments around Ioannidis, with a report this week questioning his attitude amid the ongoing transfer battle for him.

That’s something to consider if they are ready to join that struggle, which Corriere and it seems Panathinaikos, are expecting to happen at some point.

West Ham to raid Everton for Calvert-Lewin

Breaking news reports suggest that West Ham United have expressed interest in Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. This is not the first time the club has been linked to the player, who was believed to be of interest to former boss David Moyes.

Understandably, the club has been hesitant to pursue a player who, despite his obvious talent, is frequently injured.

The Toffees are likely to be forced into a decision over the 27-year-old centre-forward imminently, with his contract due to expire in 2025. They face the prospect of losing him for nothing, which is a major concern given their financial problems.

Indeed, there are reports that Everton will have to move players on by the end of the month to satisfy the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), yet they have held firm over Manchester United’s approach for Jarrad Branthwaite.

West Ham’s need for striking reinforcements is well-documented, and the club has recently confirmed to Claret & Hugh that a striker is a priority in this transfer window.

Brentford have also been linked with the injury prone forward who is surely nowhere near commanding the transfer fee of £50m which was quoted three years ago.

Definitely one to swerve for The Hammers I think.

Manchester City are prepared to offload full-backs Joao Cancelo and Sergio Gomez this summer, presenting potential transfer opportunities for West Ham United.

Pep Guardiola has a reputation for not holding onto players he deems surplus to requirements. Kalvin Phillips’ case exemplifies this – limited playing time at City followed by an underwhelming loan spell at West Ham ultimately led to his exit.

City are reportedly planning a clearout at the full-back position, with both Gomez and Cancelo deemed expendable.
Gomez, despite being at the club for two seasons, has seen minimal playing time (48 league minutes last season) and is attracting interest from Roma. West Ham are also reportedly keen on the 23-year-old Spaniard, who is valued between £12.6 million and £16.9 million.

Surprisingly, even the experienced Joao Cancelo is available for transfer. Despite having three years left on his contract, City are willing to let him go for a relatively low price of £25.3 million following his loan spell away.

West Ham could potentially capitalise on City’s desire to move these players on. Gomez seems like a more realistic target considering his age and price tag.

Manchester City’s full-back clearout presents West Ham with a chance to bolster their defence at potentially good value. While Gomez appears a more attainable target, Cancelo’s availability at a discount price might also be a tempting proposition for the Hammers.
